Chapter 47 Force Her to Death
Whatever Gideon’s motives were, Athena was grateful to him.
Her identity as Byron’s secretary was a yoke. Because of this,
ww
no matter how well Athena had done over the years, someone would always give Byron the credit.
And it was one of the few times someone could stand up for her.
Gideon was also in a good mood.
He finally saw a sincere smile on Athena’s face.
Even the ordinary food in the canteen tasted a lot more delicious.
Athena was going back downtown after lunch.
“Things are mostly settled. Mr. Hale, I believe you will do well in the follow-up work.” Athena had
reverted to her businesslike remoteness.
“Are you going back to Girard City directly?” Gideon asked.
“Yes. Tonight’s flight.” Athena replied.
Why was she in such a hurry to go back to Girard City?
Who would she meet when she returned?
“Miss Newton, I hope you can consider the advice I gave your yesterday.” Gideon couldn’t hold back
and said again.
Athena glanced at him and didn’t bother to explain anymore.
She was afraid Gideon would tell Byron what she had said.
If so, it would affect her departure.
“Okay.”
She responded perfunctorily and reached out to pull the door.
Seeing this, Gideon immediately opened the car door for her.
“I just said I want to invite you to dinner when I return to Girard City. And I’m not just saying that.”
Gideon said seriously, holding the car door.
“Mr. Hale, it’s no big deal. It’s my job to solve that.” Athena
paused and then said, “Mr. Crawford wouldn’t like it if he knew
I was in personal contact with you.”
2e for a moment.
Athena then closed the car door.
The business car drove away.
Gideon stood where he was, being sprayed with flying dust.
He waved his hand in front of his eyes.
It wasn’t long before he got a call from Byron.
Gideon glanced at it, then picked it up without expression.
“I heard things were settled over there, right?” Byron asked.
Gideon vaguely heard Lola’s voice on the other end of the line.
And Lola said, “I’ve notified the press, and they’ll put out an official press release tomorrow.”
“You’re announcing your engagement to the public so soon?” Gideon didn’t answer Byron’s question
but asked.
“Well, Heather and I have reached a consensus that we both want to go through these procedures as
soon as possible so as not to delay each other’s next work.” Byron said, “Where’s
Athena?”
answer.
Byron thought the signal might not be good over there. “Gideon?”
“Byron, I think you should stop pestering Athena.” Gideon said in a deep voice.
Then it was Byron’s turn to fall silent.
Gideon thought that since he had started the subject, he might as well make it clear once and for all.
“Didn’t Athena tell you that day? Her mother was forced to death by her father’s mistress, so she would
rather die than intrude on someone else’s marriage. Now that you’re about to announce your
engagement, I think you should break off your relationship with Athena. Just let her go.”
“Gideon.”
Byron interrupted him coldly.
“You’ve crossed the line.”
Gideon shuddered, then he heard Byron continue to say, “Since you are so curious about how I will
treat Athena, I can tell you directly. Athena is my person, she was and will be.”
“Byron, are you going to force her to death?”
“She won’t die, and I’ll treat her better than ever.”
“Byron…”
“Enough.” Byron sneered, “Gideon, why are you so concerned about Athena? I can’t help but wonder if
you’re into her for something you shouldn’t be.”
