Chapter 20
Candice concealed her emotions perfectly when she saw Sonia at her door. She asked, “Yes?”
Sonia dressed up for the occasion. Her youthful cheeks had a hint of blush on
them, and they amplified her innocence. She looked like the girl next door that every guy would fall for.
“Candice, Zach sent me a file that needed some amendments, and it’s urgent. I thought I could make the changes if I didn’t attend the party but…”
Then, she glared at Alex and continued, “Alex said you are not going, and I could ask you to help me.”
Candice looked at the document in her hands. Sonia already assumed that she would agree to help.
She looked at Alex. “Your idea?”
“Sieg and the others are waiting for us. Since you are not going, just take it as extra work. You can claim overtime,” Alex said plainly.
Candice was still having cramps. She took a breath and said, “I’m sorry, I’m not feeling well.”
Alex furrowed his brows. He looked at Candice. Just when he thought Candice would provide an explanation, Sonia said, “I told you Candice isn’t available. Alex, I think I should go back and make the changes. I can’t just rely on Candice for everything.”
The girl sounded aggrieved and bitter.
Candice looked down for a moment and then looked at the girl, “Give me to me.
I’ll do it.”
Before she could take the document, the pain assaulted her lower abdomen again.
The pain robbed her strength for a moment and her legs turned weak.
Fortunately, before she fell, a strong arm held her up.
Candice looked up and saw Alex holding her right arm.
“Can you stand?” he asked.
“Yeah, with a little help.” Candice wanted to get on her feet by holding onto Alex’s arm.

Suddenly, Sonia pulled Candice’s arm away from Alex and said, “Candice, I’ll help you.”
Either the girl was weak or she did it on purpose, she lost all her strength in the midst of helping Candice.
Candice lost her support but fortunately, she regained her balance, or else she would fall again.
She looked at Sonia with furrowed brows.
The girl looked mortified. “I’m sorry Candice, I didn’t mean it. I didn’t expect you to be so strong.”
Candice looked terrible. She did not have the strength to be bothered with Sonia anymore. “Leave the document. I want to rest.”
It was a clear exclusion order but someone was not able to comprehend.
Alex looked at her and said indubitably, “Go to the hospital.”
Candice said, “It’s just my period. I don’t need to go to the hospital.”
“Yeah, Alex.” Sonia bit her lip. She looked at Candice and said, “You just have to endure the menstrual cramps. It will be over soon. It’s no big deal.”
That last sentence rang loudly in Candice’s ears.
A while ago at Alex’s place, Sonia was on her period as well and the man almost burned down the house just to get her some dessert.
Yet it became not a big deal at Candice’s place.
Candice’s refusal to budge coupled with Sonia’s persuasion, Alex ultimately brought Sonia to the party instead of taking the former to the hospital.
Candice held the document in her hand at the door for a while before she went back inside.
After the door closed, Sonia, who was waiting for the elevator, immediately looked aggrieved.
She looked down and asked Alex, “Alex, is she still important to you? She’s just having menstrual cramps and you got so nervous.”
When Candice fell, Alex was behind Sonia, but he pushed the girl away just to prevent Candice from/falling.
Sonia’s expression turned bitter, but she could not and did not want to lash out at Alex, so she shifted all the blame to Candice.
