Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Kayson was both bewildered and awkward. Well, great. He did not expect the slender, gorgeous woman who had lent him money on the way here earlier to be Hugh’s granddaughter. Like the old man had said, she was blessed in her looks. There was no flaw in her face and figure. In addition to her ample bosoms, she was a picture-perfect goddess. Sadie’s gaze was icy. When she saw Kayson, she remembered how frightened she was when the man stopped her earlier. “Sade! Don’t be rude to Kayson! He’s your husband-to-be!” Hugh glowered, unable to accept his granddaughter’s attitude toward Kayson. Sadie’s expression morphed into shock as she said through gritted teeth, “Grandpa, is this a joke? Him? My future husband?” Hugh snorted. “This is the best partner I’ve chosen for you. You’ll understand my intentions and efforts in the future!” Hugh would never forget the scene back in the years as if he had gotten to see a deity. Kayson’s mentor must definitely be an unimaginably great presence. Forging ties with someone like this would be beneficial to their family! Sadie huffed. “Grandpa, I’ll never marry him! He’s a shameless conman, he—” “Shut it!” Hugh was furious, his face growing red in rage. “Even if you’re my granddaughter, insult Kayson again, and I won’t—” Hugh choked suddenly and went into a coughing fit. Kayson hurried to explain, “Mr. Wolfenden, it’s a misunderstanding… Mr. Wolfenden! How are you feeling!?” “I…” Hugh’s eyes rolled up before he collapsed on the couch. “Grandpa!” Sadie cried and ran to the old man. Kayson was about to go check on Hugh with a serious look when Sadie shoved him away angrily as she ordered, “Stay away! Grandpa hasn’t been in the best of health! It’s your fault for angering him!” Kayson’s brows were knitted together. He had managed to see that there must be some health issues with Hugh when the latter was waiting for him at the door earlier. At that moment, a middle-aged couple came in with a high-spirited old man with white hair behind them. The old man had a cool, composed look like he was some kind of master. The middle-aged couple was Sadie’s parents—her father, Liam Wolfenden, and her mother, Beatrice Marsh. Liam was shocked when he saw his father, who was looking purple, and asked the composed old man, “Dr. Ewell, please check on my father!” Dr. Ewell nodded lightly. “Leave it to me.” He went up to check Hugh and hummed after a moment. Sadie asked in worry, “Dr. Ewell, how’s my
grandfather?” Dr. Ewell smiled. “Mr. Wolfenden Sr. will regain consciousness after I give him acupuncture.” Sadie and her parents were delighted at the news and felt their lurching hearts return to their places. Dr. Ewell began his acupuncture on Hugh, but Kayson still looked grim as he watched from the side. Although he had just gotten to know Hugh, he found the old man quite nice, so he spoke up and warned, “I’m afraid Mr. Wolfenden will lose three years of life once you apply this acupuncture method.” What Kayson said annoyed the Wolfendens. Sadie snarled, “How dare you curse my grandfather!? You conman! Get out of my house! You’re not welcomed here!” Liam was glowering as well. “Who do you think you are to make up some cr*p here, kid? Dr. Ewell is famous across Skyriv. How dare a kid like you doubt his skill?” Kayson frowned. “Someone’s done something to Mr. Wolfenden. If that’s not treated, any other treatment will be futile.” “Shut up!” Liam was furious as he pointed at the door coldly. “Piss off!” Kayson was bummed, but Dr. Ewell had already proceeded with the acupuncture. Even if he wanted to save the old man, he could only look for other opportunities. “Quiet!” Dr. Ewell snapped, silencing the Wolfendens though they were still glaring at Kayson. Dr. Ewell remained composed as he held a silver needle and probed different pressure points. Kayson furrowed his brows. Perhaps the man was skilled, but he had applied the wrong method! Given what the latter was doing, it would only cause Hugh to be weaker. Even if he did manage to wake up, his health would only get worse! About ten minutes later, Dr. Ewell was done with the acupuncture and informed, “Done. Mr. Wolfenden Sr. will wake up the soonest in six hours.” “Thank you, Dr. Ewell!” Liam was incredibly emotional. At that moment, Kayson’s fingers moved, and a thin needle flew to a pressure point on Hugh’s calf. No one realized what he had done. Dr. Ewell glanced at Kayson coldly and replied flatly, “It’s no big deal. Some young men shouldn’t be stirring dramas in a field they’re untrained in.” Liam scowled at Kayson. Just when he was going to chase the latter out, he heard Sadie crying in delight, “Grandpa… Grandpa’s awake!” Liam was stunned, and even Dr. Ewell was taken aback as he snapped his head to Hugh, who lay on the bed. Hugh, whose breathing had been weak with his eyes closed, was gradually regaining his consciousness! Dr. Ewell looked a little lost. The old man was waking up? It was… It was impossible! He had estimated six hours as the fastest! Not only had Hugh woken up, but he also seemed to be doing better. Liam was getting emotional. “Dr. Ewell, you’re amazing! It’s no
wonder you’re so famous in Skyriv!” Dr. Ewell was skeptical, but there was no way he would expose himself when it was something to add to his honor, so he smiled. “It seems Mr. Wolfenden Sr.’s condition is better than I expected. The effect of the acupuncture is immediate.” Hugh coughed. Sadie quickly went to him and asked, “Grandpa, how are you feeling?” “Not too bad. I feel much better for some reason…” Hugh thanked Dr. Ewell, “Thank you, Dr. Ewell. I might have met my end otherwise.” Dr. Ewell smiled amicably. “Nothing so serious, Mr. Wolfenden Sr. Nothing will happen to you with me around.” Hugh thanked the physician again and asked for Kayson. “Kayson, you must’ve been frightened just now?” “A little, but luckily it’s nothing severe,” answered Kayson. Hugh sighed. “It’s all old ailments… I only have one wish now. That’s to get great-grandchildren as soon as possible.” Sadie’s expression changed slightly before she jumped at what Hugh said next. “Sade, go marry Kayson right now!”
