Bailey's pov
The game was going on and the cheers around me never ceased. Kaleb's team had the upper hand and I did believe they would win.
As he promised earlier, he scored many goals and made sure to look at me in the stands when he did. I hope no one noticed because he was very sleek about it.
I'd shy away and look somewhere else when he did and never failed to notice the smirk he sent my way.
Juliet's words affected me but it is not in the way you think. Kaleb lied to me and that was what ticked me off.
I couldn't trust him.
As the game continued on, it was even more clear that we would win so when we did it was no surprise.
This time I did stand up, clapping and smiling as they lifted Kaleb up in the air and cheered. Even though I was mad at him, I wasn't bitchy enough to not celebrate his win.
Somehow through the crowd and everyone cheering, his eyes connected with mine. He grinned hugely, winking.
" Did my brother just wink at you?" Mira gasped beside me. A lump grows in my throat as I shook my head quickly.
" No. Of course not. He winked at this girl." I pointed to the girl in front of me who was shouting and jumping happily.
Mira looked convinced and rolled her eyes, turning to Juliet. " I guess my brother is still back to his old ways after all." she mocked Juliet whose face reddened.
I smirked knowing fully well that Kaleb winked at me and not that girl. And I bet Juliet knew that too.
-
" Yes Mr. Grey, I promise there will be no drinking and she will be home by ten." Mira paced in front of me with my phone clutched to her ear. A little part of me wished that dad told her no. I didn't want to go to a party that Kaleb would be in.
Not after he lied to me.
But when I saw Mira's wide smile I knew dad had agreed. Katrina nudged my hand with her elbow and I looked at her. She smiled playfully and and nudged her chin over to the school entrance.
I was confused at first until I saw Kaleb and his friends emerging out of the building, laughing loud and playfully pushing at each other.
I cleared my throat and shifted on my foot when they draw closer.
" Thank you Mr. Grey." Mira chirped and ends the call, passing the phone over to me with a huge grin on her face. She was happy that my dad agreed to make me go.
" Looks like we're going to party tonight," She winked.
A few feet away, leaning against Kaleb's car is Juliet who had not stopped sending me daggers with her eyes. To others it was not that noticeable but I knew when someone wanted to kill me with their eyes.
I nod, sliding the phone into my bag and keeping my gaze down when Kaleb and his friends reach us.
" The way you run man was fucking awesome!" Ryan laughed and Stefan agreed. They were boasting about Kaleb's skills on the field tonight.
" Hey Bailey, coming to the party?"
I lifted my head and smiled at Stefan, a tiny shrug lifting my shoulders slightly. " Yeah I guess."
I could feel his eyes on me, burning through the side of my face. It made me shift on my foot.
" Why aren't you wearing my jersey?" Kaleb suddenly uttered catching everyone by surprise, including me.
Mira had been true to her word in giving me her spare shirt and now I wore it and removed Kaleb's jersey.
" Because you know what they will think if she walks into that party with your jersey on Kaleb," Mira grumbled and shifted in her bag to give her brother back his jersey.
I looked at Kaleb to see that his jaw ticked and he rudely snatched the jersey from Mira's hold with a glare and stormed toward his car.
" Well let's head to the party then. Come Mira and Bailey." He uttered annoyed under his breath. But I surprised him when I replied. " No. I will go with Stefan tonight."
Kaleb froze, his shoulders looking stiff as his wet hair dripped on the material of his shirt. I thought he would've argued and made a scene.
Some part of me wished he would demand that I get in his car.
But I am disappointed when he continued his path toward his car with a grumble. " Suit yourself," opened the door, got in and slammed the door hard. Like a puppy, Juliet rushed over to the passenger side and got in, a wide smile on her face.
Mira looked between us, her brows drawn as she tried to make sense of the tension. Before she could piece everything together I lied. " I kind of have an upset stomach after smelling hotdogs for hours, Kaleb drives like a mad man, I don't want to risk the chance of barfing in the car."
It wasn't really the best lie I could come up with but can you blame me? I had to think of something on the spot and this is the best I could do!
Mira looked concerned. " Your stomach is upset? Are you sure you want to go to the party Bails? You don't have to you know."
I shook my head, not wanting to spoil her night and whatever bet she had with Ryan who had not staring at her since he got closer. " No it's not that bad, it will pass."
Mira continued to voice her worries that I maybe shouldn't go tonight but I somehow eased her enough for her to nod and walk over to her brother's car. Ryan tagged along behind her and I wondered what was going on between the two.
The way he looked at her......
It kind of looks like the same way Kaleb looked at me in the library earlier.
I am cut off from my thoughts when Kaleb's eyes snap to mine. He had a chilling upset glare on before he sped off.
The tires screeched and he left trail marks behind him. Stefan snorted. " It seems our boy can't wait to target some girl tonight. Then again, that girl Juliet is back."
His words made my stomach twist in an unpleasant way. Katrina nudged my arm, smiling at me softly as to say it was okay. I nod, smiling back, trying to play it cool even though inwardly I was sick to my stomach thinking about Kaleb and Juliet or Kaleb with any other girl tonight.
