Chapter 40 Turned Out She Was Dreaming
Chapter 40 Turned Out She Was Dreaming
"No matter what you do, I won't marry you. You plotted with that old man behind my back. I was kind
not to hold you responsible!" Lemuel's thin cold lips moved. He glanced at the group of people behind
him. "What are you still standing there for? Waiting for me to reward you?"
They quickly pulled Verena's hands off of him, pressing her down with force.
His slender fingers brushed snow off of his sleeves casually. He did not spare another glance at her
before getting in the car and leaving!
"Lemuel—" Verena looked at Lemuel, who was in the car, and yelled. "Stop right there. I'll do whatever
you want me to—anything!"
The car did not stop; it still moved forward.
Sitting in the back seat, Lemuel clearly saw through the mirror that the woman was fighting with several
staff members like a lunatic. She looked extremely pitiful against the bleak background of snowflakes
as she struggled powerlessly...
His handsome brows frowned slightly...
She sure was an unbelievably crazy woman who would do anything to achieve her goal!
But her tricks did not work on him. Hoping that he would marry her was simply out of question!
He closed his eyes slightly and a scene from a long time ago appeared in his mind. It was his promise
of marriage to a woman...
Unconsciously, his hands tightened into a grip on his sides, and his breathing became rapid and
uneven.
Her body was pressed down that she could not move. She could only watch as the car coldly flash past
before her eyes...
She turned around and saw the people looking at her as if they were looking at a lunatic. She shouted
angrily, "Let go! Let go of me, you all! Why are you looking at me like that? I'm not crazy! You are crazy!
Your whole family is crazy!"
Freed from the crowd's restraint, she walked down the street. Her vision became blurred, and she did
not where she was headed.
She continued forward and did not look up until she walked for a long time. It turned out that she
arrived at Minham High Street without knowing it.
Both sides of the street were some of City A's most famous shopping streets. They featured the most
famous brands in the world, from clothing to food to toys. This was the paradise of the upper class.
Nobles and celebrities frequented this place while ordinary people could only look up to them and
admire…
She stared deeply at the limited-edition doll in the display cabinet for a while before looking away.
When she looked up, her facial expression suddenly changed. She took a deep breath, hurriedly hid
behind a big tree, and intently looked straight ahead.
She saw Eden wearing a grey cashmere coat and black suit trousers. He had a slight smile on his face,
which was warm and bright like snowflakes.
The woman standing next to her wore a purple-pink joe&jules ultra-short fur coat with a tender yellow
Chanel velvet knee-length skirt, which furthered showcased her excellent figure. With a pair of black
knee-high boots, she looked beautiful and fashionable.
She once saw those brands in a world-famous fashion magazine. Every clothing item was exorbitant!
Her eyes were clear, and the corners of her eyes were lifted slightly, making her look weak and
delicate. The colour of her thin lips was as light as water. She was truly a beautiful woman!
Eden's arms were intimately wrapped around her waist. His gaze was kind and warm, spoiling her. The
two of them walked into the restaurant chatting and laughing. They were an ideal couple and looked
perfect for each other.
Through the transparent French windows, she could clearly see Eden pulling out the chair for the
woman to take a seat like a gentleman. Her sitting posture was so elegant, noble, and perfect…
Was that his girlfriend? She was very attractive! She was also perfect for him!
The woman's every movement was graceful. She was truly beautiful, like a white swan.
Even she was attracted by that woman's charisma, let alone men.
Only a woman like her was a match for a gentleman like him. The two sat quietly together, like a
beautiful painting.
Her gaze lingered on the attractive couple for a long time before looking at herself. She wore a black
down coat on top and blue jeans on the bottom with a pair of white sneakers. She was not even
comparable to them.
With her current appearance, she would look no more than a waitress if she stood next to them. She
sniffled and looked herself up and down. She truly could not compare with them — she was not even
on the same level. This was simply the difference that existed between people.
Oh no, she really envied that woman: she envied her elegance, beauty, and maturity as well as the fact
that she was cultured!
Verena could not help but look over again. The woman was smiling slightly at Eden, who also smiled
faintly while chatting with her and removing bones from a fish for her.
At this moment, Lemuel, who wore a black trench coat, also appeared in the restaurant. Eden greeted
him with a faint smile and hugged him.
The woman got up to stand beside Eden and extended her hand to Lemuel in a poised manner. The
two of them then shook hands.
Verena looked silently for a bit before turning around. She brought her down coat closer to her body
and left this place where she did not feel a sense of belonging.
Their world was luxurious and beautiful like a painting, but her world was cold, helpless, lonely, and
fragmented.
This winter felt much colder than past years...
There was no other place to go, so she had to return to the Lawson family's villa. Unfortunately, she
became sick!
It might be because she stayed too long in the cold. She could not get up once she lay in bed. Her
head felt dizzy and heavy, so much that she had trouble keeping her head up. Her forehead became so
hot that she could even feel her cheeks emitting white steam.
Without taking off her clothes, Verena got into bed and covered herself with a blanket.
Her head was heavy and in pain, and her body felt as if it was burning fiercely. After a few coughs, she
closed her eyes and fell asleep quickly. It was just that her breathing was a bit hot.
While sleeping, she suddenly dreamed that her father, who had been unconscious, suddenly opened
his eyes and looked at her kindly and affectionately. "Daddy is awake. Verena has suffered, so daddy
will take Verena home."
Her eyes were red, and a few sparkly tears escaped her eyes. She sobbed quietly in her sleep.
One after another, dreams engulfed her, and she could not wake up. Until it was night when the sky
turned dark, she finally struggled to wake up from her dream.
