Mr. President’s 31
Chapter 31
It wasn’t in Nathan’s nature to give thought or consideration to such a matter or even honour it with an answer but somehow, he took a keen interest in the young man lying on the bed. “We.”
“He is my boss and there’s nothing between us. Trust me, he isn’t in love with me,” Mercedes took the words out of his mouth but he couldn’t explain how he felt about her explanation. He wasn’t utterly pleased but if he thought deeply, neither did he have an honest answer to Oliver’s question therefore, he remained silent. Oliver on the other hand was still determined. Perhaps he was seeing something that neither of the pair was secing.
“I didn’t ask you Merce, I was asking him.” Oliver referred to Nathan. He hadn’t heard much about his strange ways but having the conviction that he footed his bills, he wasn’t only filled with gratinade but also hoped that Nathan would become an important part of his life. He also saw how much Nathan treated his sister with respect and loving care, and the way her sister’s cheeks kept turning pink anytime Nathan was close to her.
He didn’t need to be told that there was something beyond a boss and assistant thing going on.
“I still answered anyway,” Mercedes wagged her tongue teasingly in response. She was glowing with excitement, such that Oliver had never seen in her. He might be sick but he could read the lines quite clearly,
“I just wish he was your boyfriend. He is a good man,” he said in a sad tone. Mercedes pursed her lips. She couldn’t look Nathan in the eyes, as she began to feel embarrassed with Oliver’s constant probing. She didn’t want to shut him down and leave him feeling awful. Who knows when she might see him again? Today had to be a memorable one.
Hence, she turned her gaze to her mother, who wore an indifferent appeal. Seeing the gun pointed at her, she focussed back on Oliver.
“How can you tell! You don’t even know him. She couldn’t tell anyone that everything Nathan did for her was in exchange for her body. She couldn’t help bulging with pity at the thought.
“But.” Oliver was about to say something when Mercedes cut him off gently but firmly,
“Stop saying such crazy things. It can cost me my job.” Oliver’s expression was sorrowful and Nathan couldn’t help feeling worried about it. He’s never had a sibling, being young or old and saw the young man as such. A driving urge to mentor him waged him and he couldn’t understand the reason why he cared so much for the teenager.
“Don’t worry, Oliver, get out of the hospital and I will be willing to host you in my house when you come to NY Nathan didn’t know that his strategy of cheering up the young man would be taken rather seriously.
“You mean it” Oliver asked with excitement.
“Yes. And I will teach you everything you need to know as a man, Nathan continued. For as long as the young man was interested, he was willing to make the exception. This time around, not only Oliver but his mum was equally grateful. A smile lined her lips. She hadn’t uttered a word either for or against anything Oliver had said so far. Nobody knew what was going through her mind.
“Thank you Mr L Legend, Oliver said. He
e was elated by Nathan’s openness towards him
“Call me Nathan and don’t disappoint me okay? All I ask is for you to recover very quickly, Nathan said with care. He knew that Oliver’s recovery would make Mercedes happy. Right now, he was ready to do anything to keep her smiling every day but that aside, his fondness for the young man was profound.
“I promise to do just that,” Oliver laid on his bed with a satisfied smile.
Afterwards, Mercedes hugged her mother goodbye and left with Nathan to check on her father again before finally leaving the hospital. As usual, her father was like a block. She couldn’t speak with him because he was still in a coma. It was saddening but she was gradually getting over it.
Now, she didn’t care what would happen after today. This was the best thing that happened to her and she was indeed certain that, without Nathan’s help, she wouldn’t have been able to pull everything off successfully. Even as a strong woman, it was relieving to have someone lift her burdens.
It was also settling in that Nathan cared about her. When they reached the beach house, they went inside to have an early supper. Their day had been spent in the hospital and the sun was already setting.
Nathan had allowed her to rest for a while and when she woke up, she found a white sexy bikini by the bedside with the inscription, “put this on She didn’t have to ask and knew that Nathan was at it again. He wasn’t in the room when she woke up so he might just be up to something.
She put on the bikini that flaunted her perfect figure. There was also a long transparent shirt by the bikini which she draped over it, making her way our of the bedroom. She hadn’t checked the time but from the darkness, she knew it was late,
She descended the stairs to the living room, locating the switch and turning it on. Everything was the same and Nathan was continued to the door, barefooted, curiosity midging her, and pushed it open. She was rooted in the sight that met her eyes.

Giant size candles lines the shore of the beach with a cocoon beach bed covered with white sheets, On it was a tray of assorted wines, with Nathan sitting on the bed with his right knee lifted and his right hand resting on the lifted knee. He wore white shorts with a white transparent shirt, just like hers. His back was turned to her as he enjoyed the view of the beach at night with the comfortable breeze.
Nathan was a romantic and Mercedes couldn’t believe that he did all this for her. This was the most beautiful she had ever seen at the beach in the night. She traipsed to Nathan, who was sipping on a glass of wine. She was overwhelmed with so many emotions and didn’t know which one was more dominant. She had never seen Nathan this romantic and sexy all at the same time.
“You know how cold it’s going to be right?” She naturally lifted Nathan’s right arm and snuggled in while Nathan dropped his knee and pulled her closer, his left hand holding on to a glass of red wine.
“That’s the fun part,” he buried his face in the crook of her neck and said.
With a click, the candle lights popped up. Mercedes felt her jaw drop. It was magical and something she never imagined.
There were rose petals everywhere, just the way she imagined her honeymoon but what a waste when Nathan wasn’t even her boyfriend.
“From tonight Merce, I’m going to imprint my image in your mind. You will never leave me, Merce, not after what is going to happen tonight,” Nathan’s hot breath circulated on her neck.
Mercedes wished it wouldn’t end but the reality was staring at her from the corner. “It all ends tomorrow Nat,” she said in heavy breaths, her body melting to his closeness and firm hold on her.
Nathan felt like he was pierced in his heart. Sometimes, the truth was too bitter to swallow. “Do you really want turning her to face him as he asked.
