Chapter 7 No Mishaps
Deanna carefully watered the herbs, removing some useless branches, which took more than an hour.
It wasn't until it was completely dark that she breathed a sigh of relief.
These herbs were extremely precious, far more expensive than the ones she gave to Old Hughes during the day.
The ones she sold during the day fetched over twenty thousand, but if these tender shoots were nurtured, their value would be even higher!
Wiping the sweat off her brow, Deanna finally felt a bit relaxed, especially when she thought about the two babies waiting for her at home, her mood improved even more, and a soft smile appeared on her face.
After tidying up her tools and locking the gate to the herb garden, she headed home.
Upon arriving home and opening the door, she found the two little ones wrapped in towels playing chess with their great-grandma.
The two little cats, Whiskers and Luna, were energetically spinning around nearby, creating a warm and joyful scene. "Great-grandma, you lost again."
Gregory crossed his arms, his cute little face wearing a serious expression, making people couldn't help but want to pat his head. "We're getting better and better, aren't we, Gregory?"
Old Ashley's eyes curved into a smile. Her great-grandchildren were indeed clever, with logical thinking beyond their young age. Seeing her enter, Chloe happily called out in a soft voice, "Mommy's back!"
As she spoke, she flew towards Deanna like a bird.
Gregory also came forward, considerately pouring water for Deanna, "Mommy, are you tired? Thirsty?"
Deanna's heart softened as she hugged the two children, feeling filled with love.
For them, any amount of effort was worth it!
Early the next morning, Deanna took the two little ones to kindergarten.
Then, she took a taxi directly to Hughes Pharmacy.
Ava, the receptionist, was registering information on the computer. When she saw Deanna enter, she stopped and looked surprised. "Miss Jones, are there new herbs coming in today?"
Deanna nodded, "Sort of. There's a batch of special herbs at my house that I plan to sell. I want to make an appointment with Old Hughes to discuss it. Do you know if Old Hughes is available?"
Ava replied somewhat regretfully,
"I'm sorry, Miss Jones, but Old Hughes has a meeting this morning. He won't be at the pharmacy until the afternoon. You might have to come back in the afternoon."
"Oh, I see."
Deanna was somewhat disappointed, but she didn't show it. She politely smiled at Ava and said, "Alright, I'll come back in the afternoon then."
As she turned to leave, the door to the adjacent lounge suddenly swung open forcefully.
Deanna stopped in her tracks and turned to look.
She saw a man with gold-rimmed spectacles, tall and hurriedly running to the front desk. His voice was full of urgency, "Ava, is Old Hughes here? Mr. Mercer isn't feeling well. Please ask him to come and help!"
Ava was startled, "What's wrong with Mr. Mercer? Old Hughes has something to do this morning and won't be at the pharmacy until noon."
The man's face changed instantly.
Old Hughes wasn't here. What should they do?
"Notify Old Hughes immediately. Mr. Mercer can't wait. Please ask him to come back right away!"
"Okay!"
Ava immediately took out her phone to make a call, not daring to delay.
Mr. Mercer was a frequent visitor here, and his status was different from ordinary people. Moreover, Old Hughes and Old Mercer were close friends. She couldn't bear the consequences if anything happened to Mr. Mercer.
However, after dialing the number, there was only a busy tone, and there was no response.
"Xavier, Old Hughes's phone is not reachable! What should we do?" she said anxiously to Xavier.
Xavier's expression turned grim.
They could only send him to the hospital now!
He was about to reply when a loud crash came from the lounge.
It was the sound of a cup falling to the ground.
Xavier and Ava exchanged a glance, both startled, and hurriedly ran into the lounge to check.
