Chapter 131
Ian was already convulsing from excruciating pain, his forehead clad in sweat. He nearly blacked out several times.
Matthew’s tone was soft, but Ian clearly sensed the malice in it.
“I’ll tell you! It’s Jeffrey. He wanted me to get rid of you and abduct Rachel. That’s all I know.”
Abduct Rachel? Matthew was stunned. It made sense that Jeffrey targeted him, but abducting Rachel because of his interest in her was pure atrocity.
Clutching his chest, Ian struggled to endure the pain. “He’s in the parking lot right now. But I’m not sure which car he’s in. Can I call the ambulance now? I’ll die if I wait any longer.”
Just then, the noise of tires screeching against the cement floor echoed through the parking lot. 20 yards away, a black sedan sped toward the exit. The sharp, acrid smell of smoke and burnt rubber lingered in the air.
Matthew knew it was Jeffrey’s car. Knowing he had no chance of catching up to him, he turned back to his car.
The five other men with metal bats had remained completely silent. They were all gaping at Matthew in horror. It wasn’t until Matthew got into his car did they finally breathed a sigh of relief and checked on lan’s condition.
Matthew revved the engine and casually drove toward the exit.
In the car, Rachel only saw Ian collapsing to the ground. She wasn’t aware of the dire state he was currently in..
She was perplexed when Matthew left in such a hurry. “Did they just let us go? Those five men didn’t attack you at all, though.”
Matthew was stunned. Rachel had actually thought lan spared him–she couldn’t even tell who won the fight.
He was at a loss for words.
Those five men were merely ordinary people, and even with their strengths combined, they’d still be weaker than lan alone. Seeing how Matthew defeated Ian in merely two moves, those five men were absolutely petrified.
Matthew didn’t know how to explain ancient martial arts to Rachel. It wasn’t like he could go into detail in such a short time as well. So, he merely went along with it.
“Yeah, they got the wrong person.”
Realization dawned on Rachel.
“So that’s what happened. I was horrified when those men showed up with metal bats. You’re no match for them. I was so worried! I wanted to run over them earlier and drag you out of there, but I didn’t dare to.”
Her boldness certainly caught Matthew off guard.
“Don’t worry. You have me with you.”
Rachel stared at him. No doubt, Matthew was attractive. Although what happened earlier turned out to be a misunderstanding, he acted manly enough. He was exceptionally skilled in medicine, and he was a nice person as well.
Rachel became lost in thought, contemplating whether she should just marry him.

As Matthew drove, he pondered Jeffrey’s schemes. The fact that Jeffrey Intended to abduct Rachel had him aghast.
Jeffrey was a lunatic. At this point, Matthew figured he had to be more attentive to Rachel’s safety in the future.
He drove slowly, listening to Rachel chatting animatedly about how he treated Shane earlier.
Rachel suddenly remembered something after she finished talking about the company’s matters.
“Matthew, you’ve just been released and you haven’t been paid for the first month. Do you have enough money with you? If not, I can give you some first.”
Matthew was thrilled. This finally felt like he was leeching off Rachel. Though he dated a woman who was the president of a company, he’d always been the one providing for her.
It was about time for him to reap some benefits.
“Sure. I could use some money,” he said, showing the QR code on his phone.
Rachel pulled out her phone and scanned it. “I transferred 20 thousand dollars to you. That should be enough.”
If Matthew were a salesman, he would’ve gotten a commission of ten thousand dollars for successfully closing the deal with Shane. To her, rewarding him 20 thousand dollars for his effort felt like a worthy expenditure.
Seeing 20 thousand dollars deposited into his account, Matthew was ecstatic.
“Finally some money! It’s been a hell of a ride.”
Rachel shook her head, appalled at how elated he seemed over a mere 20 thousand dollars. Having just been released, he was indeed quite poor.
She intended to give him more money, but she stopped herself when she remembered how lecherous he could be.
Matthew parked the car at the entrance of Wealthwave Group. He opened the door and put one foot out, only to see Tessa coming his way.
Frowning, he closed the car door before getting out.
