Married At First Glance: I Am Not Ugly

Her Kind Gesture

She looked at what she had made and smiled at herself for doing a job well done.

Marissa had prepared a simple yet delicious breakfast, a gesture to show her appreciation for Alexander’s help and an attempt to ease the tension between them.

Meanwhile, Alexander was in his room, getting ready for the day, when he caught the aroma of breakfast wafting through the house.

He was pleasantly surprised. As he walked into the kitchen, he found a neatly set table with a warm breakfast waiting for him.

Marissa looked up and smiled at him.

“I thought we could start the day right with a good breakfast.”

Alexander was genuinely touched by her gesture.

“Wow! I’m truly touched by this.” he continued.

“I never thought I would take anything this morning before going to work. I normally don’t eat this early, but now having a fake wife is not pretty bad.” he complimented.

“Hahaha…. Sit down and eat before your breakfast gets cold.” she said.

He smiled and sat down at the table, and they began to eat together. For a moment, the tension between them seemed to have eased.

“So my driver should pick you up here by 4pm, So please be ready by then.” he said, while sipping his coffee.

“Do I need to put on my dress here or over there?” she asked.

“No…. you’ll be sorted out there when you come. There would be a makeup artist who would do some little touches on your face.

But my driver should come earlier to pick you up so that you could go and do some beauty make over to your body.” he said.

“To my body?” she asked, looking at herself.

“What’s wrong with my body?”

“Nothing actually, but it’s necessary for you to look neat and healthy and fit to be my wife. So a body beauty makeover is needed.” he said.

“And what would they do exactly?” she asked, curiosity in her voice.

“Well… they um….”

Alexander hesitated for a moment, not sure how to explain the beauty makeover process to Marissa.

He wanted to be truthful but also didn’t want to offend her.

“They’ll enhance your natural beauty, Marissa,” he began carefully.

“They might do things like hair styling, makeup, and ensure your attire looks perfect for the occasion. It’s just to make sure you look your best.”

Marissa nodded, starting to understand the purpose behind it. She had no issues with looking her best for the event, as long as it didn’t change who she was.

“Alright, that sounds fine,” she replied, her earlier concerns easing. “I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make our fake marriage convincing.”

“Great, I appreciate your cooperation,” Alexander said with a hint of gratitude in his tone.

“You’ll see, it won’t be as complicated as it may sound.”

“Hmm-mmm.” she nodded.

He checked his wrist watch and then got up.

“I have to leave now, I’m sure that my driver is outside waiting for me.”

“Really? Are you sure…? But why didn’t he ring the bell to let you know he’s around?” she asked him, as she began clearing the table.

“Because I told him not to. I thought you would be sleeping and I didn’t want to wake you up. I didn’t know you would wake up and prepare me breakfast.

Which I enjoyed by the way.” he smiled as he wore his suit and took his briefcase.

“Ah!” she exclaimed.

She entered the kitchen and wrapped some toast with eggs and put some hot brewed coffee into a flask and handed them to Alexander.

“Could you be so kind as to hand this over to your driver?” she asked, giving Alexander the wrapped breakfast and flask.

“Why?” he asked, surprised at what she was asking of him.

“Because, like you don’t normally have breakfast that early due to the time of your meeting, I’m sure your driver won’t have had anything either so please give him this so that he could take something as well.”

Alexander smiled at her kind gesture. He never expected that she could be this thoughtful even when he never thought about it.

“Okay…. I’ll do that.”

“Thank you and have a great day.” she smiled.

Marissa’s thoughtful gesture took Alexander by surprise. He hadn’t expected her to think of his driver’s well-being.

“Thank you, Marissa. I appreciate your kindness,” he said sincerely.

With the breakfast and coffee in hand, he made his way to the driver, who was waiting outside.

The driver was pleasantly surprised when Alexander handed him the breakfast and coffee. “Thank you, sir. I didn’t expect this.”

“Marissa prepared it for you,” Alexander explained, realizing that she was capable of kindness and consideration.

The driver expressed his gratitude, and Alexander left for his meeting, feeling grateful for the unexpected turn of events and the beginning of a more amicable relationship with Marissa.

As the car continued on its way to the meeting, Alexander couldn’t help but reflect on the surprising turn of events.

Marissa’s thoughtfulness had caught him off guard. He had often wanted someone who would care for him the way she did, but he had never expected it from their fake marriage arrangement.

He had always wanted to be with a woman who would take care of him like a child and showed him the love he never experienced when he was growing up.

But he shook his head realizing that this wasn’t a real marriage but a fake one to get what he wanted as well as she gets what she also wanted.

He continued studying the document in his tablet as the car zoomed on.

While still studying the documents on his tablet, he found his thoughts drifting back to Marissa again.

He wondered if there was more to her than met the eye. Perhaps, despite their differences, there was a chance for understanding and cooperation in this unique situation. The thought both intrigued and confused him.

Alexander knew that he had to stay focused on the business at hand. The important meeting required his full attention.

After all, the success of his company was on the line, and he couldn’t afford to let personal matters interfere.
