Madam Billionaire

Chapter Thirty-one

Three weeks later…

“Oh my God, I thought this day will never end.” Peter slumped down on her sofa while Amara was back behind the coffee station and made herself another cup of coffee.

“I think my skin will ooze coffee, I don’t know how William can fill my schedule daily for one whole week.”

She was back to sitting down on her girl boss chair. Her office had been remodeled since the incident.

Peter was meticulously picky with the office designer and Amara was loving the end result. A new and fresh way to start her role as the Hamilton sole heir, or should we say the last of the Hamilton. Just as stated on the headlines of every newspaper, business magazine, and other online publishing out there for the last couple of weeks.

The day she was back from the Keys she was greeted by news crews who were seeking her story. The authorities were hot on her tail but easily dismissed by William and his team of sharp and experienced lawyers.

She was shielded and she was back to her work mode as soon as her office was fully functional. Which was day two after her arrival from the Keys.

“This is why I leave it up to you for being the billionaire. People think it’s all glamorous until they see the various lawyers and their stack of legal issues that they have to deal with, daily.” Peter said as he got up and gets himself another cup of coffee to fuel his brain and joined her across the new large office desk.

“You need a bigger army, my dear, I think I might need another assistant to liaison between your late dad and brother’s office. And you still have to appoint someone to fill their void, Amara.” Peter continues on his words while sipping his coffee.

Amara was still trying to keep up with her reads while drinking her second cup of coffee at the same time.

“The next Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for next week. Here’s what HR had come up with, but the decision still goes to you on who you’d like to push forward.” He gives her the file and she swiftly scanned through the document with her trained eyes.

“… after that, we will have to schedule for the meeting with the shareholders and give them the full report on who’s who and the company’s standing after the incident. We were down a few points, but according to marketing, it’s still doable with future campaigns.” He was back in his seat and gave her another sheet of different kinds of documents.

She didn’t say anything but took it and scanned it again quickly while nodding her head. Then she took her Mont Blanc and scribbled some corrections onto the paper. Peter looked at it and nodded in agreement.

“The Luxan Air, Antonio’s late wife’s company… what’s our status on that?” she asked in a cold-like manner.

“Nothing, surprisingly your father was quick to buy out all the shareholders since they were eager to sell out. I guess they’ve been struggling for quite a while back then. And according to HR, there was no familial lineage to the wife. But I’ll check with Paolo just in case.”

“Don’t, I’m sure we can find out for ourselves. Find someone capable of doing this. Get someone from the new security company. I just…”

“Amara? don’t tell me that he hasn’t called?”

She smiled at him, but her eyes tell it all.

“Oh my pretty overworked boss, I’m sure he’s just busy.” Peter got up and hugged her, knowing he would definitely need to be with her tonight. His date with his sexy Oaf would just have to wait until tomorrow.

“Look, why don’t we finish off for today? I’ll set up earlier for you tomorrow. You’re the head of the company, you shouldn’t be working this hard. I’ll move some schedule and we’ll take tonight to unwind?”

“Peter…”

“No, you need this boss. Just a few drinks, then I’ll take you home when you’re drunk enough then you can pick your trusty toys for tonight?”

Peter winked at her, making her laugh, and looked at her gold Cartier watch.

“You know what? it’s been a while, I need some bubbly in my veins to dilute my daily caffeine intake. And I haven’t opened your gift from a couple of days ago, which I’m sure it’s another sex toy.” She gets her stuff and logged out of her PC.

Peter laughed at Amara’s words telling her he needs to get her on her good side, which makes her smile and put her hand on his arm, and let him lead the way.

The night was spent talking and laughing with Peter. Her bodyguards were incognito as per her request, making her feel at ease drinking and giggling with her trusty best friend slash assistant. She didn’t realize she needed the drinking session.

She was tipsy when Peter accompanied her home with her driver, taking them back to her newly renovated penthouse.

“Thank you for tonight Peter, I love you.”

“Aww, boss… I love you more.”

“Yeah, you should… I’m signing off on your salary.” She smirked and gave him a sloppy kiss on his cheeks making him chuckle and gave her a warm drunk hug.

“Rest, tomorrow is still a work slay… I mean day, damn… my cheeks are getting numb. I’ll stop by with your coffee in the morning, okay?”

“Thank you my lovely Peter, I’m definitely keeping you for another year.”

He laughed as they parted and then she closed the door behind him. She sighed as the loneliness greeted her on the other side.

All the money in the world and you’re all alone Amara… nice…

She thought everything was going well with Matteo, but just like any other relationship, she was doomed for failure.

Maybe I should tell him how I really feel, back then…

Her mind wanders as she walked to the bar and infused her veins with more alcohol. The frustration was there, she hated that she has so much money but it didn’t bring her happiness.

I just want to be happy…

Is it too much to ask?

The beautiful woman poured herself the finest whiskey money can buy and drink it while watching the midnight news. She was barefoot, and still in her designer working attire as she falls asleep on her couch.

The sky was still dark when she woke up to the sound from the television, then groaned when she realized that she falls asleep with the TV on. Again.

And just like many nights before she took her glass and her cigarette to her spacious private outdoor patio. She was picking up her old bad habit as a result of her anxiety.

She lit her cigarette and took the first drag and feel the serenity that she longed for hours ago. Peter would be mad if he knows that she was back to smoking again. But she needed to get her mind off and when she’s not working she was back to her old habit.

The skyline was dark but it was clear and beautiful, she cozied up, taking her knees to her front, and took another drag. She sighed in content as she looked at the cityscapes and imagined herself in one of those windows with her loved ones, family, or even pets. Then she took another drag after she sipped her fine twenty years old whiskey.

She stayed for another hour, contemplating about her life, burning off more cigarettes than she should, and freezing her ass off from the early morning air.

The exhaustion that she felt was overwhelming her daily. She kept on working and living her days knowing that people are depending on her. Then spent her nights smoking and imagining she was living someone else’s life.

She was no longer living her life, not when people around her kept leaving her behind.

Except for Peter, he’s one of the reasons she wakes up early and goes to work in the morning.

Dad… I missed you…

So much…

Those words slipped through her lips every night she lay her body in her king-size bed hugging herself to sleep. She rests her body for a couple of hours until she functions again for the next working days.

She had been dragging herself for the last couple of weeks. And that day she finally collapses just when she was about to head out to the meeting room.

Peter panic and called Paolo to the rescue, his mind was thinking of all kinds of the worst possibility that might happen to her.

All possibilities except one…
