FIRST DAY AT WORK
"I will tell you another time; I need to go to work now." Lucinda said heading to the door when she paused to look at Medusa.
"Oh, Medusa I forgot; I'm out of cash. Can you give me transport fare?" Lucinda added, making Medusa chuckle.
"Take money from my bag; I thought you didn't need it because you wanted to literally fly to work every day," she teased.
"I can do that, but just to be safe, I believe he already thinks of me as a weirdo; he even taught me how to eat." Lucinda said. "Seriously? What can't you eat?" Medusa inquired.
"At first, I couldn't grab the noodles, and secondly, I didn't have a mobile phone," she replied.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier? I would have ordered a phone for you." Medusa responded.
"No thanks; my boss already offered to get me that." Lucinda said. Medusa gasped, opening her mouth wide in surprise.
"H-He must be suspicious of you already for your behavior; you need to take weekends to learn human ways. I don't know a lot of human ways, but I think I will try my best to learn them online." Medusa said. Lucinda rolled her eyes and ambled to the door. She took a taxi to work, resting her head against the fogged window. "Maybe I don't belong here; what if my husband was right about earth? What if it's just full of hungry, selfish, and greedy people?" Lucinda thought to herself, sighing heavily.
"Lucinda," A deep voice called out to Lucinda in her head. "Yes," Lucinda answered.
"What's troubling you, darling? You know you can tell me." Lucifer said in a coaxing tone.
"It's just that I don't fit into this human society. You have to know the names of every food you eat; you have to know a lot of things like gadgets they use and clothes they wear..." she whined.
"It's not that difficult for someone like you, because you were so determined to come to Earth and learn so that shouldn't be your problem," he remarked.
"I know, but it's hard to do two things at a time." She replied.
"What are the two things you think you are doing?" he inquired. "Working and learning are hard," she replied in a sad tone.
"Well, get used to it and get the job done," he said.
"I will try my best, but don't you think you could have made my job easier by telling me about money and by giving me?" She inquired but received no response from him; she sighed and knew he didn't want to talk to her anymore; he was making her job on earth difficult. She looked outside the window at the busy street and the vehicles that were passing.
She arrived at the company and strode in with her head held high, greeting all the employees by bowing her head. Her nickname was "Goddess" in the company, and everyone just loved to look at her beautiful face. Guys were scared to approach her because of Ralph's rules; they weren't allowed to do romantic stuff at work even if they were dating. She entered the elevator, and the door was about to close when someone held it open. She saw that it was Mr. Josh. He entered the elevator and stood next to her. "Good morning." She greeted him with respect.
"How was your first day at work?" he asked.
"It's good, I guess." She mumbled.
"I would like to be your friend." Mr. Josh said with a toothy grin, which made her move away from him a little and stare at him with stunned eyes. "Are you serious?" she asked.
"Of course," he replied. She moved away from him as they both waited for the elevator without uttering a word. The elevator opened, and Lucinda quickly rushed out of it, ignoring him. She ran down the corridor in her heels and stood in front of the office she shared with Ralph. She quickly opened the door and looked into the office. She spotted him; his face was buried in the laptop in front of him. She crept into the office, making her way to her desk, which was at the far end of the room opposite his. She tilted her head to look at him; their eyes met, and he waved her to come over to his desk. She gulped and walked over to him with her hands crossed in front of her.
"G-Good morning, sir." she greeted bowing her head.
"Good morning, dear," he said as he placed a brand-new phone box on his desk.
"What's that?" she asked, and he gave her a suspicious look.
"A phone." He replied, frowning. "Come, let me show you how to use it since you don't know what it is." He said. She gently moved around the desk and stood next to him as he unboxed the phone and arranged it. He switched on the phone, and Lucinda's mouth was slightly open as she was staring at the wonderful technology before her. He unlocked the phone and started showing her some apps.
"This is where you add a new contact, and this is where you receive messages; this is to answer a phone call, and..." he paused as he realized she was staring at him instead of looking at the phone.
"Focus!!" He scolded her.
"Sorry," she apologized, stretching her hand forward, and he handed her the phone. He opened his top drawer, took out a bag of meat, and placed it on the table. "I hope you know how to use a phone now." He said. "Yes." She opened her mouth absentmindedly.
"What are you thinking about?" he asked. "Hurry up and go and feed Deacon," he said and got up from his seat, walking to the other side of the office toward the window and showing her his back. Lucinda grabbed the bag of meat and strolled to her desk, placing the phone on it, then exiting the office.
