Love’ss 53
Chapter 53
David was already at the gate of Serenity Villa as Andrew’s car pulled up. When the car halted, he approached in no time, saying, “Welcome back, Mr. Miller.”
“What’s the matter?” Andrew asked, but he saw right away why David
had been waiting by the gate.
David glanced at Madelyn and said respectfully, “Mr. and Mrs. Garcia are here. They’ve been waiting since this afternoon.”
Madelyn’s face clouded over. Shortly after Elena was taken away that morning, Madelyn’s phone began ringing incessantly. She recognized it was either Amelia’s or Caleb’s number, so she allowed the phone to ring until it eventually ran out of battery and went silent.
Andrew turned to Madelyn. “Shall we go to Skyview Heights instead?”
Madelyn hesitated briefly. “No, it’s fine. I have something to ask them.
Andrew nodded and hummed in acknowledgment before leading her
inside.
Amelia and Caleb had been waiting since noon. Considering they were Madelyn’s parents, David ensured they were well attended. He even arranged dinner for them. However, their patience wore thin as Madelyn continued to keep them waiting.
Already stressed from recent business issues, Caleb was further aggravated by the earlier incident involving Elena at the Miller residence. He was so mad at Madelyn that he could have throttled her. Yet, Madelyn’s entrance alongside Andrew forced Caleb to bury his rising fury.
“Mr. Miller, you’re back,” Caleb greeted respectfully as he approached,
Despite seething with frustra
display it in front of Andrew. After all, the future of Garcia Group now depended on his decisions.
Madelyn turned to Andrew. “Why don’t you go upstairs and shower first? Make sure you keep your wound dry.”
“Alright,” Andrew responded. He shot Caleb and Amelia a cautionary look before heading upstairs.
Madelyn had been with the Millers for ten years, but Andrew never formed a bond with Amelia and Caleb. Even though they were her
parents, he never approached them warmly.
Once Andrew had gone upstairs, Amelia and Caleb breathed a sigh of relief. Amelia stepped up and gave Madelyn’s arm a sharp pinch, asking, “What in the world is happening? Why did the police take Elena away?”
Madelyn furrowed her brows and brushed off Amelia’s hand.
Amelia’s hand hovered in the air, her frustration growing. “You have to
tell me what’s going on!”
“Mrs. Miller.” David stood at the foot of the stairs, his voice calm and
distant. He was reminding Amelia and Caleb of their positions.
It dawned on Amelia that she and Elena were now without backing at Serenity Villa. Despite her frustration with Madelyn, Amelia reluctantly withdrew her hand, which had become accustomed to dealing harshly with Madelyn.
Through gritted teeth, Amelia demanded, “Say something!”
Up till now, Amelia and Caleb were completely in the dark about what had happened at the Miller residence that morning. All they knew was that Madelyn had been there. Moreover, they were barred from
VT
visiting Elena. Despite seeking legal counsel, they still couldn’t see
her.
They considered visiting the Miller residence to ask about the incident, but since Athena and the rest had never fully embraced them, they didn’t want to risk embarrassment. So, they had no choice but to wait here for Madelyn.
Watching Amelia struggle to maintain her composure, Madelyn scoffed and casually strolled over to the couch, taking a seat. “She tried to commit murder. Don’t you think it’s a serious offense?”
Amelia’s eyes widened in shock as she exclaimed, “What did you just say?”
Without delving into the details, she lashed out at Madelyn, “You’re the reason she’s in this mess, aren’t you? It has to be you!”
Madelyn’s eyes sparked with sardonic amusement as she watched Amelia lose her composure.
Amelia was so furious that she was struggling to stay on her feet. She’s your own sister! How can you be so cruel? Don’t you realize you’re ruining her life?”
“Yes, she’s my sister, but she doesn’t seem to be your daughter!” Madelyn retorted.
Amelia was accusing Madelyn, her own daughter, for the sake of the other woman’s child. It was apparent she was not in her right mind.
Madelyn’s indifferent attitude infuriated Amelia, but she couldn’t afford to dwell on these sarcastic remarks.
