Redmption 14
Redmption 14
Jewel’s face turned pale immediately. Her eyes welled up with tears, making her look incredibly pitiful.
“Chris, you find me annoying now, don’t you?” Her tears finally spilled over as she spoke.
Chris remained silent. There was a dark air surrounding him.
“If lan were alive, I wouldn’t be bothering you…” Jewel’s voice was faint but had an underlying pressure.
“Fine, you can bother me all you want, but leave her out of it.” Chris was referring to me.
It seemed they were about to argue. I wasn’t sure whether to stay or leave.
“I understand. From now on, I won’t bother you anymore. I won’t disturb you two either,” Jewel mumbled before, turning and walking away quickly.
This time, Chris didn’t chase after her but instead looked at me. I lowered my head slightly and started walking out. Chris followed closely behind.
As we exited the café, we heard the screech of tires. Both Chris and I looked up to see Jewel being hit by a car coming out of the parking garage.
“Jewel,” Chris called out softly before rushing over to her.
I stood frozen for a few seconds. Soon, I hurried over as well.
“Chris, the baby…” Jewel’s face was deathly pale. She was clutching her abdomen with one hand while the other gripped Chris‘ arm tightly.
Didn’t she just say she wouldn’t bother him? Now, she looked at him as if he were her lifeline.
It was such a waste of talent for Jewel to not be an actress.
The driver of the car, who turned out to be a company employee, was terrified and kept apologizing, “Mr. Gildon, she ran in front of my car suddenly!”
“Get lost!” Chris shouted angrily, picking Jewel up and carrying her to his car.
Since it was rush hour, employees were coming to and leaving the office. As
everyone witnessed the scene, whispers started to circulate.
“Mr. Gildon looks like he’s really worried about that woman. Who is she?”
“That’s not the point. The point is, she mentioned a baby…”
“Oh no, could it be that Mr. Gildon got her pregnant, and now she’s here to
confront him?”
“Shh, keep your voice down. You don’t want the ‘wife‘ to hear you.”
Just as they finished talking, I walked over. The gossiping girls looked away in embarrassment and quickly dispersed when they saw the so–called “wife“.
I didn’t make a fuss. After all, it was normal for people to talk about others behind their backs and to be talked about. Chris was the big boss of the company, so it was normal for people to gossip about him.
I approached the employee who had hit Jewel. He still had an intern badge around his neck.
“What happened?”
Seeing me, the intern, who was already pale with fear, stammered, “Ms. Crown, she ran out in front of me…”
I had seen how agitated Jewel was earlier. “It’s not your fault. There are surveillance cameras around here. Don’t worry too much.”
Everyone in the company knew I was Chris‘ assistant and his fiancée. Hearing my words, the intern visibly relaxed. “Thank you, Ms. Crown!”
“You can go back now. Any further action will probably happen tomorrow,” I reassured him before leaving.
After that, I called Lisa to explain what had happened with Jewel and added, ” Let me know how she’s doing later.”
“Why do you care so much? You weren’t the one who hit her,” Lisa asked, puzzled.
I was silent for a couple of seconds. “The person who hit her is an employee of the company. I don’t want him to get into trouble.”
Lisa was on tight duty toder, so her place
