Love's Redemption

Redmption 11

Redmption 11

Chris' eyes flickered with surprise when he turned around and looked at me. Soon, a flash of anger appeared in his deep eyes.

"Madeline, there's a time and place for your stubbornness. Jewel is—"

"I'm your fiancée," I cut him off. Saying that made me feel so lowly.

When I watched TV and saw scenes like this, I used to think that the female lead was weak and that such a man wasn't worth the effort. Now that it was happening to me, I finally understood how it felt.

"Jewel is pregnant. I can't let anything happen to her!" Chris insisted as he stepped back.

A few steps later, he turned around and ran outside.

In the end, between Jewel and me, he didn't choose me.

Sitting there, I saw him catch up with Jewel. They struggled with one another until Jewel clung to his clothes and collapsed into his arms.

I lowered my head. I couldn't watch them any longer.

Whether or not there was something between them, his choice today gave me the answer to my wavering heart.

In the end, I barely ate a bite of that meal, yet I paid a three-thousand-dollar bill.

I didn't go back to Gildon Estate; instead, I went to Lisa's place.

"Have you really decided to break up?" Lisa, the gynecology expert, massaged my acupoints, relieving me from the torment of menstrual pain.

While she could heal my body, she couldn't heal my heart.

"Yes." I sprawled on her bed at an angle where she couldn't see my red eyes.

"You might find it harder to end things with him than you think." Lisa paused. "Don't forget you're Chris' assistant."

"I'll resign." I had already thought about this on the way here.

Lisa nodded. "Alright. But even if you resign and stop working with Chris, what about the Gildon family? They've raised you all these years. You can't just sever ties with them because you're breaking up with Chris, can you? As long as you have ties with the Gildon family, you'll still be connected to Chris."

Her words hit home. Yes, I owed the Gildon family for taking care of me for ten years.

"That's a separate matter. I'll explain it to Bree. I can still be her goddaughter." I was determined.

Lisa didn't say more upon hearing this. She only added, "Whatever your decision is, I support you."

I turned off my phone that night. I even managed to fall asleep without brooding.

When I woke up, Lisa had already prepared breakfast.

"Beet juice. It'll give you the energy you need." Lisa glanced at my face. "Drink more."

I appreciated her effort and drank two cups. I even ate two eggs.

As Lisa had an early shift today, and I also needed to go to the office, we went downstairs together. But as soon as we got downstairs, we saw Chris leaning against his car with a bouquet of white roses in his hands.

"He must be here to apologize." Lisa nudged me and walked ahead.

As she passed Chris, she mentioned, "Women can have heavy bleeding if they get angry during their period. Do you know what I'm saying, Mr. Gildon?"

Lisa left it at that and walked away.

Chris approached me the next moment.

"Sorry about last night." Chris handed me the flowers.

However, I didn't take them as I reminded him, "Chris, we broke up."

Since I said it last night, I wasn't going to take it back just because of a single gesture of goodwill.
