Chapter 31 Married Woman
After spending some time in the car, Stella finally understood why Miles insisted that Yulia should be seated on the back row, as she was constantly trying to reach for him, only to be repeatedly pushed away.
“Why don’t you like me?” Yulia began bawling. “I’ll become the type of person that you like!”
“You’ll never be able to turn into that.” With a steady voice, Miles gave a firm reply. Although he had turned the heating on due to the chilly night, Stella could still feel the bone-chilling air that he emanated.
“Tell me! What kind of woman do you want?” Feeling anxious, Yulia began tugging on Miles’ arm.
Stella immediately pried Yulia’s hand off him from behind, afraid that she might disturb Miles when he was driving. After some time, Miles blurted, “I like married women.”
What he said caused Stella’s face to turn scarlet. Who does he mean by that? Or is he perhaps referring to a specific demographic? What are the characteristics of a married woman that would appeal to a prestigious person like him? He had a tall stature and handsome features, which coupled by the noble air and arrogance he displayed, all contributed to Stella’s perception of him being untouchable.
Meanwhile, Yulia detested his answer. “You can turn me down directly, but what’s the point in pining after me if I have gotten married?”
On the other hand, Stella heaved a sigh of relief. I’ll assume he said so in order to shake Yulia off his tail.
Upon arriving at Yulia’s home, Stella noticed that both her uncle, Michael Johansson, and her father, Korbin Johansson, were standing at the entrance to Yulia’s house while waiting anxiously. Stella wasn’t sure why her father was there as well.
Then, Miles and her got Yulia out of the car before the four of them entered the house. The owner of the house was Yulia herself, and she was living alone. Before falling asleep, Yulia tugged on Miles’ tie. All the while, Korbin had been inspecting Miles with an apprehensive gaze. Miles might have noticed it, but he didn’t comment on it.
After that, Stella was about to leave in Miles’ car, but both of them were held back by Korbin. No matter where they were in their career, both the Johansson brothers were rather handsome, for they possessed tall frames and handsome looks. Korbin stood in front of them while asking, “Might you be Mr. Miles Grant?”
Meanwhile, Miles was being uncharacteristically courteous. Although Stella never formally introduced her father to him, he knew who the man was from how she addressed him.
“I am grateful that you lent me three hundred thousand previously, so allow me to buy you a meal this week.” Korbin never took his eyes off Miles, seemingly intent on scrutinizing the latter.
“You’re welcome,” Miles replied politely. All this while, Stella had never expected her father to buy Miles a meal, but considering the amount he borrowed from Miles, it was within reason that he did so, so she didn’t dwell on it either.
When they were about to leave, Korbin held Stella back, so Miles left alone. In the meantime, Michael was taking care of Yulia in the bedroom. After glancing carefully in their direction, Korbin shot Stella a question. “What’s your relationship with that guy?”
Her father’s frown was a confirmation to Stella that he must’ve heard something from Zane. Coupled with the three hundred thousand Miles lent him, she figured it made sense that her father would have such assumptions regarding Miles and her. “He’s my superior.”
“Superior?” Korbin scoffed at the term. “I’m over fifty, so don’t lie to me, Stella. You’re a married woman, so you have to protect your reputation. Besides, you won’t be able to handle someone like Miles. You’ve got to make sure that you won’t end up with nothing in the end. By the way, you have to join us for the meal this week.”
“Me?” Stella pointed at herself in shock. It was understandable that her father would want to buy Miles a meal for the sake of the money, but she wondered why her presence was required when he literally just told her to avoid Miles. Why would he want us to be present together for the occasion?
However, Zane, too, wanted to join the occasion on Saturday, which was rather unexpected.
