Chapter 5 The 80th Birthday
Chapter 5 The 80th Birthday
Early the next morning.
Esther Jefferson woke up early.
By the time Chris Shelby woke up, she had already got breakfast ready.
"I've contacted the best doctor on the East Coast, and in a few days Hope can be sent to the hospital
for surgery."
Chris picked up a fritter and said.
"Really?"
When she heard Chris's words, Esther looked at him in disbelief.
He smiled and said, "Of course. Why would I lie to you?"
Esther hesitated for a moment and said, "But the surgery is very expensive and takes a hundred grand.
Where did you get that much money?"
"Don't worry. Now that I am home, I will solve all problems. Money is never one of them for me."
As the Primus of Amerosia, Chris owned a secret vault that held untold wealth.
A mere hundred thousand, to him, was like a tiny drop in the bucket.
At this moment, Esther felt that she finally had the support she could rely on in her heart.
Esther said, "Chris, did you see the news? Leon Winston was arrested last night, and all the properties
under his name were seized. He finally got what he deserved."
Chris smiled and said nothing.
Leon Winston had done a lot of evil, and this time he would finally be punished by the law.
"I've given you my promise - I will protect you and our daughter. No one can hurt you." Chris said
easily.
Esther froze for a moment, and then asked incredulously, "Is it because of you that Leon Winston was
arrested?"
Chris nodded and said, "Yes, my lady..."
Before Chris could finish speaking, Esther glared at him and said, "Stop joking, Chris Shelby! Where
have you been in these five years?"
Esther didn't believe that Chris could bring down Leon Winston.
Leon was a widely-known gangster in East Coast, and Chris was only a penniless man her family had
taken in. How could he bring down Leon?
Chris wanted to tell Esther his true identity, but when he saw her reaction just now, he figured she
probably wouldn't believe it if he had told her.
There would be time for him to explain in the future.
"On the next day of our wedding that year, the state issued a military draft, and I went to join the army."
"So that was it!"
Esther nodded and didn't ask any further questions.
She guessed that Chris was just a conscript, and now he returned since it was time.
"Chris, Grandpa called today. It's his 80th birthday. Would you like to come to the party with me
tonight?" Esther looked at him expectantly.
Chris nodded, "Of course, I haven't seen your grandfather for a long time. This time, I really want to pay
a visit to him! I decided to give him a huge birthday gift and surprise him!"
There was a sneer at the corner of his mouth when he said this.
...
Grand East Coast Hotel.
Today was the 80th birthday of the old Mr. Jefferson, Henry Jefferson.
The whole hotel had been bustling, and countless celebrities had come for the banquet.
As a second-rate family, the Jefferson family did enjoy some influence in East Coast.
"I bring you a pure-gold phoenix hairpin!"
"Please take this Burmese jade sculpture!"
"And my pure-gold bracelets!"
"I got you a pair of diamond earrings!"
...
When he saw the birthday gifts constantly brought up by the guests, Henry Jefferson was all smiles.
"Thank you for coming to my birthday banquet. God must have blessed the Jefferson family, and our
children have all had a great career and life."
The guests who came to the birthday banquet were all big names from East Coast, and everyone was
discussing the major events that happened today.
"Mr. Jefferson, did you hear we had a big shot coming to the East Coast today? Dozens of fighter jets
escorted him all the way to the East Coast, and three thousand soldiers had locked the entire airport
up."
"I heard that even Mr. Mester, the richest man in East Coast, wanted to meet this big shot and was shut
out in the end."
"That's interesting. Even the governor waited outside the airport for three hours without seeing this big
shot."
Henry nodded and said, "I am aware. But anyway, I have sent an invitation to this big shot for my
birthday party."
"It doesn't sound very possible. How would such a big shot come to your birthday party?"
When they heard what Henry said, no one believed it.
Even Henry wasn't very confident, and he was just trying it out.
At this moment, his son Felix Jefferson hurriedly walked over.
"Father, I just heard that the big shot has agreed to come to the party this evening."
"Awesome! God bless the Jefferson family!"
After he heard Felix's words, excitement was instantly written across Henry Jefferson's face.
Felix's wife, Lorie Jefferson, suddenly said, "Father, it's your 80th birthday. I can't believe Esther doesn't
even come over for such a big day."
When they all heard her words, everyone suddenly became quiet.
Everyone knew that Esther Jefferson was a disgrace to the Jefferson family!
Henry said with a gloomy face, "Don't mention her at my birthday banquet. This slutty woman has
humiliated our family - she married a bastard, and also gave birth to a bastard. She was a total
disgrace to the Jefferson family!"
Lorie said curiously, "That Chris Shelby was also weird. He finally became a member of the Jefferson
family and married Esther, the most beautiful woman in East Coast. However, he ran away the next
day. It's unbelievable."
Felix sneered, "What's so weird about it? Maybe this Chris Shelby doesn't think he's worthy of the
Jefferson family, and can only be a tramp..."
"Ha ha ha ha!"
When they heard what he said, all the guests laughed, looking at each other.
A piece of trash in the eyes of the upper class was easily a convenient joke for small talk.
Henry stood up at this time and said loudly, "Everyone, I have something to announce. Today there will
be a super big shot attending my birthday party!"
When they heard what he said, there was thunderous applause from everywhere.
At this moment, a tall figure entered the hotel lobby.
His powerful aura was overwhelming and everyone seemed to have paused their breathing.
"Chris Shelby!"
Felix Jefferson and Lorie Jefferson both exclaimed.
In an instant, all eyes were on Chris Shelby.
Along with Chris were Esther Jefferson and Hope Jefferson.
"Chris Shelby, why are you back?"
When he saw Chris Shelby, Henry's face turned livid.
"I heard that today is your 80th birthday. I specially brought my wife and daughter here to congratulate
you, and to thank the Jefferson family for the special care you have given to my wife and daughter over
the years!"
A gentle smile appeared on Chris's face!
"Come on, bring in the birthday present I've prepared for Henry!"
When he finished his words, several men in black suits walked in with a large pure-gold coffin.
A coffin?
In an instant, everyone's expressions changed drastically.
