Chapter 14 Caught by Colbert on the Spot
Eudora couldn't think of anyone who would save a murderer, except for the Baldwin family.
But who would've guessed that they saved him only to kill him!
She should have seen it coming. With the Baldwin family's treacherous nature, it was an easy choice to
take one's life.
Now, she had not only lost the final clue, but her investigation had also been discovered by the Baldwin
family. If the Baldwin family found out that she knew the truth, would she be the next one to die?
The sudden news made her heart race, and her nerves remained on edge for a long time.
But no matter what, she alone had to bear the consequences. She couldn't let her foster parents know.
After her three-day 'vacation', she returned to work.
To avoid being noticed by the Baldwin family, Eudora split her time between her job and visiting her
foster mother in the hospital, trying not to show up in front of the Baldwin family.
She also followed her doctor's advice, refraining from drinking alcohol and taking appropriate rests for a
month.
In secret, she spent a considerable amount of money hiring another private detective to investigate her
foster parents' car accident.
A month passed quietly in this way.
She found time to go to the hospital for a re-examination, and the results showed everything was fine.
After Eudora left the hospital, Colbert received a call from the hospital. "Mr. Steele, Ms. Stanford has
had an ultrasound. The fetus is over two months along and is developing very well."
"But didn't she show signs of a miscarriage? Will the daily food deliveries affect her?" Colbert asked.
"Ms. Stanford gets a lot of exercise from her work so she has a strong body, not as fragile as most
pregnant women."
"I see."
He thought that Eudora's busy work schedule would affect her unborn child, but it turned out to be the
opposite.

Philomel Club.
As the night grew late, the Philomel Club started to fill up. Under the colorful lights, the weary young
men and women, drained from their jobs, indulged themselves. Some swayed their bodies on the
dance floor while others got drunk at the tables.
Seeing this, Eudora couldn't help but feel a pang. If the Baldwin family hadn't intentionally framed her
foster parents, she would have used her money to open a bar or a supermarket in her hometown and
lived a simple and peaceful life.
At around 10 pm, just when Eudora was laying low in a corner, the intercom rang. "Eudora, Eudora,
come to the men's bathroom quickly. Mr. Burke is asking for you, he's puking everywhere."
"Men's bathroom? Why would I, a woman, go to the men's bathroom?"
Eudora pressed the intercom and retorted disdainfully.
"Oh, Eudora, come quickly. Mr. Burke specifically asked for you. Don't worry, there's nobody in the
men's bathroom now." Hugh, knowing Eudora's concerns, reassured her.
"It's Chasel Burke again! Okay, okay, I'm coming."
After saying this, Eudora clipped the intercom onto her belt and headed toward the public restroom.
As she walked toward the men's bathroom, a few security guards greeted her, "Hurry up and check on
Mr. Burke. He's not leaving the toilet."
"Your name was specifically mentioned."
"Hehe, Eudora, you better grab this chance. Maybe you are able to change your destiny."
...
Hearing the guards' teasing, Eudora gave Hugh a kick. "Are you looking down on me?"
"Oops, I shouldn't have said that."
Hugh gave an awkward smile. "I know you don't need luck."
"Stop bluffing." Eudora waved her hand. "Do your rounds at the bar, or the manager might accuse us of
slacking off."
Eudora walked into the men's room and found that the first stall door was ajar. As she walked by, she
saw Chasel sitting on the toilet, incessantly vomiting into the trash can.
Chasel, the second son of the Burke family from Kenison City, despite his good looks, was known for
being a good-for-nothing trust fund baby. He was a notorious playboy.
Just the mention of his name would elicit mockery from everyone around.
How did Eudora come to know him? Well, it could be said they hit it off after a fight.
Not long after she started working at the Philomel Club, she saw Chasel bullying Hugh. Unable to bear
the sight, she broke the bottle on the table and threatened Chasel with the jagged edge, boldly
declaring, "Hugh is my friend. How dare you hurt him?"
Chasel, pointing at the vodka on the table, retorted, "If you can finish this bottle in one go, I'll spare
him."
Eudora loved drinking when she was in the countryside, she even made her own wines with her
adoptive parents when she was younger. She had a high tolerance for alcohol. She picked up the
vodka bottle and downed it in one gulp.
After that, not just the bouncers but even Chasel started respecting her.
Later, Chasel often challenged her to drinking games. They gradually became friends.
The bouncers, admiring her boldness and righteousness, started addressing her respectively!
"Ugh..."
Chasel started vomiting again.
Feeling nauseous, Eudora covered her nose with one hand and tapped Chasel's shoulder with a stun
baton in the other. "Chasel, if you're drunk, you should get out. It's disgusting to sit here."
Hearing Eudora's voice, Chasel wiped his mouth with a napkin. His boyish face lit up with a smile as he
reached out for her. "Help me up."
"Helping you might make my hands dirty."
She waved the stun baton with a look of disgust. "Here, grab this."
Chasel obediently grabbed the baton and managed to get up. He staggered to the sink, rinsed his
mouth, and washed his face.
Leaning against the wall with her arms crossed, Eudora watched. "Who dumped you this time to leave
you in such a state?"
Chasel, looking at his own pitiful reflection in the mirror, suddenly chuckled. Turning his head toward
Eudora, he asked, "Does everyone think I'm useless?"
His smile carried a hint of sadness and helplessness.
The sudden seriousness made Eudora slightly uncomfortable. She handed him some paper towels. "If
you're not drunk, get out! Hey, Chasel, what are you doing?"
Before she could finish her sentence, Chasel abruptly grabbed her arm and pinned her against the
wall. "Eudora, do you know that among everyone I've met, you're the only one who's different toward
me."
His body reeked of alcohol, which made Eudora slightly uncomfortable.
"Eudora, will you be my girlfriend?"
Eudora was speechless.
She didn't take Chasel's drunken babble seriously and instead glared at him. "Have I not been hitting
you enough lately?"
"Look at you, what a mess! I'm not bothered by your appearance. Why don't you just settle for me?"
"Chasel, you're still drunk, aren't you? Do you want me to help you sober up with a fun round of
boxing?"
Eudora couldn't help but chide him jokingly.
"Cough, cough..."
Just then, a coughing sound suddenly rang out from the men's restroom entrance.
Both of them heard the sound and turned their heads to look.
Eudora's back stiffened, her eyes widening slightly.
Colbert?
How could it be him? Why was he here?
But in the next moment, thinking about the fact that she had lost Colbert's child and that she had
nothing to do with him, Eudora put on an indifferent attitude again.
"Well, well, what a coincidence. Mr. Steele, you're also using the men's restroom?"
Chasel still maintained his posture of one hand against the wall and one hand in his pocket, turning his
head toward the suddenly appearing Colbert and greeting him.
The Philomel Club was part of Colbert's property. Although he usually lived in the penthouse, aside
from entertaining business partners, he rarely came down to check on things.
Who would have thought that he would decide to visit today of all days?
And as a result, he bumped into Eudora shamelessly flirting with the good-for-nothing Chasel.
