Chapter 31
Chapter 31
When Zoe went upstairs, Mia was not home. After giving her a call, Zoe found out that Mia did not call Mason.
Zoe hung up the phone, speculating that the villa's servant had lied to help her escape.
However, she did not dwell on it. It was a rare occasion that she didn't have work tonight, so she took a shower and went to bed early.
In her dreams, she recalled her newlywed life with Mason. Yet, in the dream, Mason remained as indifferent as ever, his words filled with impatience.
Her phone rang, waking her up. She saw a message from Mason with only a few words.
"Don't forget to visit Grandma tomorrow. I'll wait for you at the Imperial Hotel after work."
How could Zoe forget? Thinking of Lilith's extravagant fireworks, Zoe immediately accepted the transfer that Mason had included as a fee for her compliance. She donated it to the local animal shelter.
At 1:00 AM, Mason's car stopped by the roadside. Leaning back, he scrolled his phone.
He had sent Zoe a 3,000-dollar transfer, which she had accepted. He thought she would at least reply.
She used to enjoy texting him for no specific reason. Mason never answered those messages. Reflecting on it, it seemed she stopped sending such messages after leaving the Sanders family. She also stopped lying in his bed, nestling by his neck like a puppy, asking if he would fall in love with her.
It had been a long time.
He did not notice her because he did not care about her.
Mason thought about Zoe and their marriage for the first time in a while, as he sat in the car alone.
…
Early in the morning, Zoe went to the hospital.
She brought a lot of fruit with her.
Although Mia was delighted, she pretended to reprimand her for wasting money.
Gordon was in good spirits as well. He leaned on the bed, saying, "You should eat something. Zoe is worried about you."
Mia's eyes reddened upon hearing that.
After chatting for a while, she pulled Zoe aside and told her, "Yesterday, the hospital suddenly transferred Dr. Cecil to another city for training. They said it would take a while for him to come back. Zoe, was that Mason's doing? Is there something going on between you and Dr. Cecil?"
Zoe was stunned. She thought of Mason's deliberate message from last night, speculating that this was another warning from Mason. She felt a chill in her heart.
She finally felt Mason's possessiveness. This possessiveness was not directed at her but more at the title of being his wife.
Fearful of worrying Mia, Zoe whispered, "Mom, don't worry. I'll handle this."
She grew up by Mia's side, and Mia naturally knew her character. She did not say much and went back into the ward.
Zoe stood in the corridor. She looked down at her phone, wanting to apologize to Cecil. After hesitating for a long time, she decided not to make the call. Perhaps not reaching out was the best way adults protected each other.
Zoe stayed in the hospital all morning.
After lunch, she planned to buy some guitar strings. A black Range Rover suddenly stopped next to her as she reached the bus stop.
The window rolled down, revealing a handsome face.
It was Gregory.
Seeing Zoe again, Gregory felt conflicted.
He had not thought highly of Zoe in the past, assuming she would cling to Mason like a barnacle until she died. However, he had never expected her to dare to challenge Mason for a divorce.
She even looked different now.
She had dropped the facade of being Mrs. Lockwood and wore a casual white tee and black pants.
Gregory stared at her elegant and exquisitely beautiful face.
For some reason, he impulsively said, "Where are you going? I'll give you a ride."
