Chapter 44
Chapter 44
Chapter 44 Thaddeus was blown away, his heart pounding like a drum. His eyes bugged out at the sight of his gentle and humble ex-wife, who now appeared audacious and even capable of violence. “Ilana, did you really do this?” Thaddeus asked, his gaze locked on her. Evadne began to smile, her beautiful face instantly drawing attention. Jareth clutched his chest, moved by her smile. How could a woman be so captivating even when she’s up to no good! “Thad. What do you mean by that?” Acacia, fearing that Thaddeus might start doubting her, began to make a fuss. “Are you saying you don’t trust me? Am I that untrustworthy to you?” She couldn’t understand why Ilana would admit to something like this. Acacia decided not to overthink it, as long as things turned out the way she wanted! If Ilana wanted to take the fall, then she was just asking for it! “Thaddeus, look at the wicked woman you once married! She almost cut Acacia’s artery; she wanted to take my daughter’s life!” Una cried out, they both bursting into tears. Thaddeus lowered his gaze, his brows furrowed. “Ilana, you weren’t this quick-tempered when you were with the Abernathy family. You used to be so fragile, nothing like you are now.” Elspeth stared at Ilana, her words coated with malice: “Ilana is showing her true colors now that she’s no longer with Thaddeus. It’s a good thing Thaddeus divorced her in time and made up with Acacia. Otherwise, who knows how long this scheming girl could have fooled us.” “Elspeth, how dare you insult Ilana!” Jareth couldn’t hold back anymore. As he attempted to retort, Ilana stopped him.
Glynnis watched this with a sour look, her resentment toward her former sister-in-law growing. “You can handle this however you like.” Evadne said sarcastically.
“Apologize to Acacia.” Thaddeus said it coldly, without looking at her. It was as if their three years of marriage had been nothing but a dream, as if they had never known each other. Acacia could hardly contain her smile; she was over the moon. This was Ilana’s payback. Thaddeus was always hers. During their three years of marriage, Ilana had given everything for him, taken care of everything in their lives, and worked hard for the whole Abernathy family. But all it took was a few crocodile tears from Acacia, and Thaddeus would worry about her. A few drops of her tears were worth more than all of Ilana’s sincerity! Evadne held her chin high, striding toward Acacia. With anger coursing through her, she didn’t say a word and slapped Acacia hard across the face! Everyone was dumbstruck and at a loss for words! Her movement was so fast that Thaddeus didn’t have time to react, only feeling a chill pa** through him. “You hit me. You really hit me?” Acacia looked somewhat dizzy from the pain. “I hit you because you deserved it!” Evadne’s smile was replaced by a frightening rage: “This slap is for touching my diamond bracelet that grandpa gave me. If you have the guts, confront me directly. But you destroyed my bracelet, why? Why did you do that?” “Ilana! How could you do this?” Thaddeus was livid. He growled in a low voice, noticing the swelling on her wrist as she swung her hand. Her skin was so delicate that even a slight injury was noticeable. But his anger at the moment made him oblivious to this; all he could do was glare at her. Una, Elspeth, and Glynnis were in disbelief. How could Ilana be so brazen in front of Thaddeus? How could her temper be so volatile? “Listen up; from now on, Acacia and I are enemies. If I betray my own vow, I’ll end up just like this diamond bracelet!” Evadne gritted her teeth, slowly unfurling her left hand.
Thaddeus suddenly felt a tightness in his chest as he saw her blo ody hand and the blood-stained broken bracelet. She really loved that bracelet. Even though the bracelet was broken, she held onto it, oblivious to the cuts on her hand. Thaddeus was at a loss for words, gazing deeply at Evadne’s angry face. ‘Ms. Ilana! Your hand is bleeding!” Jareth cried out in shock, frantically searching his pockets for a handkerchief or a tissue, anything to help her bandage the wound but he found nothing! Thaddeus had a handkerchief in his pocket. His head was slightly lowered, his fingers tightly clutching the handkerchief, but he found himself lacking the courage to offer it to her. Just then, a whiff of perfume wafted over as an elegant woman in a dark green dress walked past him. Evadne felt a bit dizzy as Suri approached her, removing the fragments from her hand and carefully bandaging it with a handkerchief. Tears welled up in Evadne’s eyes, her lips trembling. She almost called her name out loud, but managed to hold back. “Such a beautiful hand. It’s heartbreaking to see it injured.” Suri tried to sound calm, but her heart ached. She wanted to lash out at the Abernathy family at this moment. “Long time no see, Suri; you are getting more and more beautiful!” Elspeth’s face changed instantly and she hurriedly greeted Suri, pretending to be close. “Suri, hey there!” Una was greeted with a busy laugh and an obsequious charm. After all, after the death of Emeric’s first wife, it was a common consensus that Suri stepped into her shoes. They saw her as the rightful wife of Chairman Emeric, and many wanted to curry favor with her. Suri was the youngest daughter of the Bright family. Even if she had cut ties with the Brights to marry Emeric, who was already a married man, she was still a rich girl. Una and Elspeth couldn’t hold a candle to her.
“Elspeth.” Suri didn’t really want to deal with Elspeth, but she had to respect Frederic. As for Una, to Suri, she was nothing more than a bottom feeder, which she simply chose to ignore. Una felt extremely awkward. She had taken the initiative to greet Suri but got nothing in return. “Did Suri recognize Ms. Ilana? Oh yes, today Ms. Ilana is standing in for Cas sius at the auction. Her carefree shopping without looking at the price tags really made an impression, so you must have noticed her, right?” Elspeth had just noticed Suri’s unusual concern for Evadne, which made her suspicious. Not knowing the nature of their relationship, she decided to subtly probe Suri’s reaction. “Of course I know Ms. Ilana. She was invited by Cas sius after all.” Suri knew Elspeth’s intention, so she gave her an ambiguous response to see how she would react. “So, you must not be very familiar with Ms. Ilana,” “Do I need to understand who Ms. Ilana is?” Suri said it nonchalantly. “I think it’s necessary.” Elspeth said with a steady laugh, “Because Ms. Ilana might be the future wife of the President of the K Group, which would make her part of your family.” “Is Ms. Ilana Cas sius’s girlfriend?” Suri asked back. “That’s the deal! When Ms. Ilana divorced Thaddeus and left the Abernathy family, she got in Cas sius’s car right away. I was worried for Ilana at the time. After all, she’s a country girl and she didn’t know anyone else in Elmsworth. What would she do after leaving the Abernathy family? Then I saw that she had Cas sius to look after her, and I was relieved.” Elspeth said, grinning at Evadne. Suri didn’t respond right away, making the atmosphere particularly tense.
