The hospital
She heard footsteps coming down from the stairs and Jenica squinted her eyes as she crossed her arms against her chest. It seemed like her husband was a good friend with her enemy? Or maybe not?
She just saw the security guards drag Jared out when Alex gestured them so.
“Who is that guy?” she asked, glancing at him and studying his expression.
Alex stood by her side and together they looked at the thrashing man opposite the main door.
“A nuisance,” Alex answered with a frown while looking at her direction. “What would you like to eat?”
“Chicken,” she answered.
Alex led her to the kitchen and Jenica stole a glance at the main door, where she saw Jared standing there. The man grinned when their eyes met and Jenica smirked in response. Jared raised his eyebrows but eventually smiled back.
She smiled in secret and followed Alex into the kitchen. But her and Jared’s meeting didn’t end there.
The next day she saw the man behind the house. He was hiding in the grass and constantly complains about the ants biting his feet. Jenica raised her eyebrows. The man in front of her was so childish, and not the kind she’s expecting to see in HQ’s number one enemy.
“What are you doing?” she asked and stood in front of the poor man.
Jared looked up at her and his lips parted. She even saw how his cheeks flushed in embarrassment that rendered her speechless. What the heck did she just see? Jared’s blushing? She might as well check if this is really the man she’s been looking for.
“You’re Alex’s wife?” Jared asked and stood up. He shook his head and straightened the tangled clothes, smiling widely at her.
Jenica’s eyes narrowed and she crossed her arms over her chest. “Who are you?” she asked. She also secretly looked at him from head to toe, and she didn’t find anything suspicious on Jared’s face.
He extended his hand in front of her. “I’m Jared Redcliffe, Alex’s friend!” he said, so bubbly that Jenica grimaced.
Even though she didn’t trust the man, she still raised her hand to accept his offer of handshake. The man’s hand was warm and his hold of her tightened. Jenica frowned and was about to withdraw her hand when someone had done it first for her.
Alex stood beside her and swatted Jared’s hand away. “Keep your hands off my wife!” he warned.
“Dude, what the h*ll? I only introduce myself to your woman!” Jared complained and rubbed his injured hand.
Alex’s eyes narrowed and was about to speak when Jenica beat him to it and said, “You guys talk first. I’ll go inside.” She then stepped into the house.
She wanted to observe Jared but she felt the device she was secretly wearing vibrate. That serves as her communication with the assistant.
She entered the guest room and locked herself inside the bathroom. “Any news?” she asked on the other line.
“Agent J, there is an ongoing business a few kilometers from your location. It contains poisonous needles being transported to the capital’s largest hospital institution. According to the data from our people, those goods came from Jared’s direct subordinates.”
Jenica frowned. “Anyone from our side?”
“Doctor Jonathan Megalanes, head of Seattle Hospital.”
“Roger that.” Then she hung up.
She went back to Alex in hope to say goodbye when she saw him talking seriously to Jared. Her ears perked up and all her senses became alert. Only now did she realize that Jared and Alex seemed close to each other but according to the data she gathered from HQ, Jared has no connection with Alex Fuego.
It might because HQ is still unaware or Jared still has hidden cards that Jenica should be cautious of?
Alex seemed to notice her first because he turned his head to her direction. Jenica looked away and she caught Jared waving at her. Sighing, she glanced back at Alex. “I have errands,” she said.
Alex didn’t even ask or stop her from what she was planning. So she found herself inside one of her husband’s less expensive cars and drove it out of the mansion. She refused when Alex offered to let the family driver serve her.
And because she was alone, she freely took out the things she was hiding in every corner of her body. She scanned the whole car and found nothing suspicious. So she took out the earpiece to call the assistant but she hesitated whether to inform HQ about the relationship between Jared and her husband.
If the HQ finds out, they will definitely send spies to her location. And she won’t be able to do things outside of her work. She sighed. Nevermind. She put the earpiece in her hidden pocket and drove straight to the location.
It didn’t take her long to spot suspicious-looking trucks not far away. It was in a hidden place, at the end of an abandoned subdivision, a few kilometers from Alex’s house.
She got out of the car and watched as men put boxes inside the truck. And Jenica knew that those boxes contained those damned needles. When they drove away, she secretly followed them.
She overtook them to avoid suspicion, but she still watched them in the rear view mirror. After a few hours of chasing after them, she found herself in front of a large factory.
Jenica frowned. As far as she knew, this was the factory that belonged to the syndicate that took her son. Damn She never knew that she’ll encounter the damned syndicate who abuses her son.
She secretly flew the little vision bot then looked at its shot on the little hologram. But the bot couldn’t enter because of the lazer surrounding the entire compound. She signed and frowned. She looked at the large, closed gate in the distance.
Jenica did not know what’s inside the compound so she decided to wait for the men to come out again. They didn’t disappoint her because she didn’t wait long before the gate opened again and it spat out the big truck that she had been following for a few hours.
She quickly gone back inside the car and followed the truck to the location given by her assistant. It was right because she saw herself standing in front of the largest hospital in the country.
Jenica went straight to the office of Dr. Megalanes and saw his big smile when she entered and saw him. “Welcome to my office, Agent. How may I help you?” asked the doctor.
She sat in the visitor’s lair and smiled back. It seems that her assistant has already informed that she will visit him.
“Help me find the one who bought poisonous needles from Jared,” she said.
The smile disappeared from the doctor’s lips and wordlessly took out a token. There was engraved ‘Seattle Hospital’ and Jenica knew that the doctor trusted her.
“This is my token. Use this and help me find out the weeds in my hospital,” said the doctor with a serious and calm gaze directed to her.
Jenica accepted the token and left the office. Holding the token, she walked through the hospital’s hallway and headed straight for the warehouse where the small device she planted on the boxes has been lying.
“What are you doing here?” someone suddenly shrieked.
Jenica stopped in her tracks and looked back at the woman standing stiffly behind her. She raised her eyebrows when she saw Gia Antonete.
“Answer my question!” Gia huffed when Jenica failed to say a single word.
