Chapter 62
Chapter 62
Wilfred wiped away his tears and sighed. “This reminds me of my son and my daughter-in-law, who died young. I’m sure they would be able to rest in peace after witnessing their daughter living happily ever after.”
Angeline couldn’t suppress her temper anymore. A feeling of rage surged up inside her upon the mention of her parents. She wanted nothing more than to rush up the stage and expose Joseline’s true colors.
She’s not worthy!
However, Angeline forced herself to calm down. Hang in there. Joseline will be forced to show her true colors soon. I just have to take things one step at a time, and I’ll be able to turn the tables.
The officiant then introduced the vows.
“Do you, Joseline, take Hanson to be your lawfully wedded husband, to live together in matrimony, to love him, comfort him, honor and keep him, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, to have and to hold, from this day forward, as long as you both shall live?”
Joseline’s heart was filled with joy as she hurriedly nodded. “I do!”
“Do you, Hanson, take Joseline to be your lawfully wedded wife, to live together in matrimony, to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, to have and to hold, from this day forward, as long as you both shall live?”
Hanson froze. His gaze swept over the audience and landed on Angeline.
Pain lanced through his heart when he saw the utter indifference in her eyes.
Does she… really not care?
For a moment there, Hanson did not reply.
Joseline’s face fell as she felt the gazes of bafflement from her guests. “Hanson!” she whispered.
It was only then that Hanson returned to his senses. “I’m sorry. Can you repeat that?” he apologized.
This time around, Hanson replied without missing a beat after the officiant repeated the vows. “I do.”
Those two syllables were drawn-out and spoken without emotion.
Nevertheless, Joseline did not care. All she wanted was to seal the deal and realize her dreams of marrying Hanson.
“Okay. It’s time to exchange rings. Let’s invite the flower girls on stage.”
With that, two cute little flower girls came on stage and handed the bride and groom their rings.
Meanwhile, their couple photos were displayed as a slideshow on the big screen. Even though most of the pictures were heavily edited, the playback speed was fast enough that no one noticed the edits.
Hanson took the ring from the flower girl and was about to put it on Joseline’s finger when the lights went out, and the music suddenly stopped.
Stunned, Hanson paused and took in his surroundings in bewilderment.
“What’s going on? What happened?” The wedding guests grew concerned.
“Yeah. Is this part of the show?”
“Are you sure he’s dead?” Just then, Joseline’s voice rang out from the big screen.
“Yes, Ms. Sorelle. Speaking of which, that employee has become the scapegoat, and he has no one to blame but himself. He shouldn’t have exposed the production issues.”
Joseline sneered. She pondered for a moment before asking out of fear, “What about the witnesses? Did you shut the workers’ mouths?”
“Don’t worry, Ms. Sorelle.”
As the voice recording ended with the pair laughing menacingly, the banquet hall fell into chaos.
Hanson’s eyes were popping out of his sockets when the voice recording ended. It was obvious he had no idea what Joseline had done.
“I-Impossible,” Joseline shrieked. Her knees went weak as she stumbled backward.
Meanwhile, the look of shock was written all over Wendy’s and Wilfred’s faces. They couldn’t believe what they had just heard.
“What did you do behind my back?” Hanson grabbed her wrist hard, infuriated.
Fear was written all over her face as pain shot through her wrist. “Hanson, you’ve got to believe me. That woman is not me. I’m certain someone out there is trying to get me!” she rambled incoherently.
“Do you think anyone would buy that?” Hanson’s face was filled with anger. “I’ve told you not to do things out of your capacity. You’ve crossed the line for the sake of money!”
In other words, Hanson was telling her that she should have taken the secret to the grave. She should never have gotten caught; she should never have gotten herself exposed, especially on such occasions.
“I…” Feeling humiliated and defeated, Joseline was at a loss for words.
She tightened her grip on Hanson’s arm as tears welled up in her eyes. “Hanson, I’ve realized my mistake. Please forgive m—”
Slap!
Right then, Wendy stepped forward and gave Joseline a tight slap.
“Forgiveness? Old Mr. Sorelle, please don’t blame me for not giving you face. But your granddaughter is a disgrace to the Yiurk family.”
Wilfred lowered his head in embarrassment. He tightened his grip on his cane and thumped it on the ground.
“Deal with this yourselves! This is none of my business.”
His assistant hurried over as he went into a coughing fit. The former fed him his medicine and led him out of the banquet hall.
Joseline had lost the only person she could depend on.
At the same time, Hanson had no qualms about showing his disdain for Joseline anymore as he shrugged her hand away.
“The wedding is canceled!”
Canceled?
Joseline was dumbfounded as she sank to the ground. She couldn’t bring herself to raise her head as she could feel the looks of disgust people were giving her.
Her wedding guests, mostly business elites, started admonishing her.
“Who would have thought that Ms. Joseline from Sorelle Group would do something like that? She doesn’t seem like the kind at all.”
“That’s right. She shouldn’t have disregarded human life for the sake of money.”
“This is terrifying. And to think that I attended their wedding. What an embarrassment. Let’s go!”
With that, everyone got to their feet and was about to leave, everyone except Angeline.
Angeline folded her arms and stared at Joseline expressionlessly. A sinister smile soon graced her lips.
“Karma.” Joseline read her lips as she mouthed those words to her.
At that moment, everything clicked for Joseline. She glared at Angeline with disdain.
“You! You ruined my wedding!” she exploded in rage.
The next second, she picked herself up from the ground, grabbed a bottle of red wine from the table beside her, and launched herself at Angeline as if she had gone mad.
It happened so fast that Angeline had no time to dodge.
Her pupils constricted as she stared at the wine bottle Joseline was holding high up in the air.
Am I going to get a concussion from getting hit with a wine bottle?
Angeline gritted her teeth as she prepared herself to take the hit when she suddenly felt someone grabbing her by her waist and pulling her away from where she was standing.
Bam! The sound of someone getting hit with a glass bottle cut through the air.
Angeline squeezed her eyes shut, thinking she had gotten hit. However, the pain never came.
