Don’t attempt to touch her
Damian remained silent after hearing Emerson’s words. His hunch became stronger, but he wasn’t convinced that Emerson could do that, especially since he looked innocent as he drunk his coffee.
“So, will you tell me the truth?” Damian asked. “Don’t worry about anything. I won’t reveal your secret.”
“Okay.” Emerson sighed and stood up. “I need to face the problem I committed.”
“What? You did? You did that? And you’re also going to tell them the truth? Are you out of your mind?” Damian continuously asked. “You don’t know what Rebecca’s parents can do once they found out it was you!”
“So, are you telling me to remain silent? I know you’re just concerned, but I had committed a sin,” Emerson remarked, and attempting to leave, but Damian was quick enough to block the door.
“You don’t want me to go or what? You were such a good model for everyone, so please don’t try to teach me something wrong.”
“I’m not teaching you wrong. I’m just doing my best so that you’ll be alright,” Damian replied. “And so I can’t see you being beaten because of the sins which I know you didn’t mean.”
“Are you sure?” Emerson queried, then his phone suddenly rang. “Wait, I just need to answer this.” He went out of the kitchen and walked down the passageway where no one could disturb him, but unfortunately, he was disturbed when he answered the call.
“I received the news that Claudio San Jose died, and I’m not foolish enough to not know who killed him; I think your misconduct needs to end here,” someone said from the other line.
“Wow! I didn’t expected you could send another spy next to me,” Emerson complimented. “If you don’t believe me anymore to fulfill my task, then you can send more men, but don’t attempt to touch Rebecca.”
“It totally came out of you. How can you fulfill your task if you’re protecting her? Is she so pretty that you fall in love with her?”
“It’s not your business anymore,” Emerson defended.
“But are you certain about your decision?” He asked, then laughed. “Perhaps you already knew what could happen to you and to your family because of that.”
For a while, Emerson fell into silence because of concerns about his family. He was sure Brandon would show them how sharp his fangs. And those thoughts brought him into a dilemma.
“We’ll give you one last chance, but don’t forget, I’m already holding your family’s lives,” he reminded.
Emerson slid his phone back into his pocket while thinking about what could happen to his family. He loved them more than anything else, even more than the money he had, which was all for them. Perhaps death was the best way to solve all his problems.
Standing by the door, Rebecca was surprised when a heavy hand held her shoulder. As she looked back, she was surprised to see that Emerson didn’t escape, but rather had a thick face to show her.
“Huh? Why are you still here?” Rebecca asked.
“Rebecca, I just want to apologize for what I did, and my decision is already final. I’m going to tell your parents the truth,” Emerson replied.
“Okay, tell them if you want, but I don’t care anymore what you’ll say. You better go if you don’t want me to do that for you.”
Emerson was shocked to hear those words from his girlfriend. He didn’t know that she could forget everything about them just because of a mistake he made. Perhaps Claudio was the most important person to her.
Without saying anything, Emerson turned back to the dormitory. He reported to Damian what happened, who also became curious how Rebecca could say that, but perhaps because “she’s just in sixes and sevens right now,” Damian told him.
“I’m facing a lot of problems, and I’m also going to lose my mind!” Emerson exclaimed as he stood up and walked towards the window.
“Well, everything always lies on you, but it doesn’t mean that if Rebecca is mad now, she will always be mad. The time will come when she will remember you and all the good things you did regardless of their bad sides,” Damian convinced him.
“How long she could endure me is the question; if we can’t even choose our love for now, it will surely end in nothing.” Emerson sighed.
“Don’t falter, son. I know that everything will be alright.”
“I thought that she loved me more than anything else, but now I have discovered that I was wrong. Rebecca isn’t as patient as I thought, and I can’t blame her either.”
“I don’t want to add another sin, so I’m going to admit the truth to her parents,” Emerson said. “Please, brother, I’m asking you to take care of Rebecca when I’m gone.”
Damian walked towards him and patted his shoulder, but then he turned and left. “If that’s what you want me to do, you don’t need to remind me because I’m already doing that even before you arrived.”
“I said it!” Elfedio exclaimed. “He’s hiding a lot of secrets.”
“But why are you telling us about this?” Bernadette asked. “Don’t you love him anymore that you can’t hide all the fiasco he’s doing?”
“Do you think that after all the pain he gave me, I’ll still love him? Wrong is wrong, Mom, and he might kill us if we don’t end everything here,” Rebecca replied.
“She’s right. We’ve got to dispatch him or else he’ll be the one to end us all. We must be thankful instead that Rebecca found out that he’s Brein Loi’s partner in crime,” Elfedio said as he embraced his wife and daughter.
“I’m so sorry if I’m doing this,” Rebecca screamed in her mind. “But I love my parents more than anything else. I’m not here if it wasn’t for them.”
“Why are you handcuffing me?” Emerson queried his surprise when the three men who were pretending to be his co-workers were handcuffing him as if they already knew he had committed a sin.
“Where do you want to take me?” Emerson complained, but the servants seemed to be deft, only listening to their master’s orders. “Wait! I need to see Rebecca!” He insisted on going, but the three workers were strong enough to hush him up.
Meanwhile, from the window of her bedroom, a drop of tears fell from Rebecca’s eyes as she stared at Emerson, who was trying to escape. She, too, didn’t know why she cried like that, but those men dragged him out, and she didn’t know what happened to him when she heard continuous gunshots.
“So, are you happy now?” Lucille asked as she entered the room.
“Happy for what?” Rebecca turned back. “For letting my boyfriend die because I found out that he was Brein Loi’s partner in crime?”
“No, I mean that if you’re happy that the man whom you love once in a while died, it’s because you don’t know how to fight for him.”
“What?” Rebecca exclaimed, as if she realized something, but she was awakened to the truth. “The man I loved died? Emerson? He?”
