Chapter 77

Chapter 77 Don’t Move, I’ll Carry You

In fact, it would make sense for them to push the responsibility to a schizophrenic person.

When Mu Zhi was still in university, a professor had mentioned that schizophrenia paired with certain personalities could turn them into a highly intelligent individual. If she had the skills to forge the birth certificate, then it was only reasonable to assume that she also fabricated the story between Lu Junnian and Mu Zhi.

But somehow… Something still didn’t feel quite right.

Mu Zhi tilted her chin upwards to Lu Junnian. She wanted to question further but changed her mind and thanked him instead.

She then turned and was about to head back to the office. With everything that had happened, she needed time to calm herself.

But Lu Junnian had other plans. He stood up alongside her and said, “Seeing as how I just saved you, go get coffee with me.”

He knew that Mu Zhi was in shock and needed time to process. However, he also knew that he couldn’t exactly invite her head on.

He needed a reason.

Mu Zhi looked at Lu Junnian and wanted to refuse. But when she saw his wound, she nodded.

However, they never made it to the café. Lu Junnian and Mu Zhi had just stepped out when they came face to face with Xu Changshu. She seemed to have been standing in the corridor for a while watching Mu Zhi and Lu Junnian.

Xu Changshu was looking for Lu Junnian. She had wanted to discuss some issues with him only to find him absent when she arrived at his office. She knew in one that she would find him wherever Mu Zhi was. Xu Changshu sped across town to Mu Zhi’s workplace.

However, she was still unhappy when she saw them standing shoulder to shoulder.

When Mu Zhi saw Xu Changshu, she immediately averted her gaze to Lu Junnian. She shrugged helplessly, “It looks like we won’t be getting that coffee.”

Without waiting for a response, she turned and headed back into her office, giving Xu Changshu and Lu Junnian space.

“What do you want?”

Lu Junnian frowned at Xu Changshu. He had no intention of approaching her.

Xu Changshu looked down at her shoes as she contemplated. “Does it have to be her? Even if it hurts our relationship?”

“Yes.”

Lu Junnian did not raise his voice and yet it rang with conviction.

“Even if she was married?” Xu Changshu continued.

“Yes.”

“How about if she’s had a child with someone else?”

Xu Changshu looked straight at him as she said it. Lu Junnian’s expression wavered slightly. Xu Changshu let out a breath of relief. He wasn’t as sure as he’d thought.

She smiled at Lu Junnian. “Not only does she have a child, she doesn’t even know the father.” Her voice was gentle yet stone hard.

“Do you have to go to such measures to keep her away from me?”

Lu Junnian frowned. He could no longer continue this conversation with her.

Xu Changshu sighed, “Check for yourself if you don’t believe me.”

She turned to leave soon after that.

She acted the part of a compassionate mother but when she got back to her car, she called her assistant, “Release the contents of the flash drive that I gave you.”

Her assistant immediately complied.

Finally, Xu Changshu smiled widely.

Mu Zhi returned to her office and massaged her temples. She had been bombarded with all sorts of problems for the past few days and had been on the edge of her seat.

She could not get back to work. Instead, she looked at her schedule and decided that she would bring Mu Xiaomu out for dinner tonight to lift her spirits.

Mu Zhi called Jian Xiaoning to make sure that they were on for tonight. After that, she was able to find the motivation to get back to work.

Soon, it was time to clock off.

Mu Zhi notified Jian Xiaoning that she would pick Mu Xiaomu up from kindergarten. Following that, she quickly packed up and left.

Mu Zhi hurried to Mu Xiaomu’s kindergarten.

Only to find that there was some sort of construction happening at the entrance of the kindergarten. It looked like a pipe had burst.

The entire street was flooded. The children from the kindergarten were all stuck inside as they looked for their parents.

Most of the children had both parents picking them up. The father would get out of the car. Using their height, they would bend over and hoist their child up and over.

But Mu Zhi could only stand at the entrance looking at Mu Xiaomu, troubled.

She had put on high heels and stockings but she still wasn’t tall enough. Neither did she have the strength to lift Mu Xiaomu over.

And those children whose fathers had carried them over all turned to look at Mu Xiaomu with satisfaction written all over their faces. “Xiaomu doesn’t have a father! Wild child who doesn’t have a father can’t come over!”

“Don’t talk like that.”

Parents hurriedly hushed their children, but it was too late. Mu Zhi had already heard what they had said.

Naturally, Mu Xiaomu also heard.

Mu Zhi was heartbroken. She could see how hurt Mu Xiaomu was. Mu Xiaomu did not let her tears fall but yelled at them, “You don’t have a father! I have a father!”

But her voice grew smaller and smaller.

Mu Zhi’s heart broke a little further.

Mu Zhi looked at Mu Xiaomu. She clenched her teeth and started to pull off her high heels, saying, “Xiaomu, wait for mama. I’m coming over to get you.”

“Mama, the water is dirty. I’m fine.”

Mu Xiaomu felt pitiable, but when she saw Mu Zhi taking off her shoes, she regained her senses.

The more Mu Xiaomu suppressed how she felt, the more it agitated Mu Zhi.

When Mu Zhi was about to take off her stockings, she heard a voice behind her, “Don’t move. I’ll carry her.”

It was the deep, stern voice of a man. Mu Zhi was shocked still. She turned to find… Liang Yunzhan.

Whereas Mu Xiaomu found herself standing next to another child, Liang Jieyi.

“Thank you but, I can carry her over.”

Mu Zhi was embarrassed.

“If I don’t do it, in a bit, Jinye will arrive.”

Liang Yunzhan’s quiet voice carried no emotion. He continued to say, “Today is Jieyi’s birthday and we booked a place nearby for dinner.”

Suddenly, Mu Zhi stopped hesitating and thanked Liang Yunzhan in earnest.

Liang Yunzhan had already bent over and easily picked Mu Xiaomu up with his lengthy body.

Liang Jieyi was tall enough to need no help getting over. He jumped over with no trouble.

Just as Liang Jieyi jumped over, a Koenigsegg parked nearby.

And Liang Jieyi immediately ran over and knocked on the window, saying, “Mr. Jinye, can you come down for a bit?”
