Falling For My Mysterious Wife

Falling For My Mysterious Wife By Cassidy Alfaro Free Chapter 60

Chapter 60

Marie obviously understood it as well. Just as she was about to talk about the fine, Jalen spoke again.

“Good thing that your father only needs to pay the fine. After paying taxes and re-organizing the company’s financial affairs, he won’t need to get in jail.”

Marie bit her lip and then slowly said, “But the fine is huge. My dad… He can’t afford it.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Jalen instantly frowned.

He looked at Marie and asked, “Are you saying that the Dunston Group can’t pay a few million dollars?”

“My dad…”

“Marie, you are an adult. I want to know your own ideas, not what your father told you,” Jalen interrupted her, obviously displeased with her.

Marie was a little flustered, and then she felt a strong sense of unease.

For so many years, it was the first time Jalen had been so stern to her.

“I see, Jalen. My father will take care of this matter himself. I won’t interfere.” If she continued to

intervene and ask Jalen for help, Jalen would dislike her sooner or later.

To Marie, her parents and the Dunston Group were not as important as the man in front of her.

It was just that…

Marie remembered what she had just heard outside the door about Dr. Gainsford being actually Jalen’s ex-wife…

She only knew that Jalen’s ex-wife was a country woman. Therefore, even though Marie had never

met Elaina, she didn’t take Elaina seriously before. But now, Marie finally knew that Elaina was so

capable. More importantly, Jalen seemed to have mixed feelings toward her. Now that he knew that

Dr. Gainsford was his ex-wife, he might come back to her again.

If they remarried…

Marie didn’t dare to imagine it.

No, she had to do something.

“Jalen, let’s have lunch together at noon. We haven’t eaten together for long,” she suggested with a

smile.

But Jalen was not in the mood to have a meal with her now. He waved his hand and said, “I’m busy

today. Maybe some other time.”

Marie felt her heart sink. In the past, if she asked Jalen to eat with her, Jalen wouldn’t refuse her at

all, but now…

Dr. Gainsford…

Elaina Gainsford…

I don’t care who you are.

You can’t take Jalen away from me!

At noon, in the Magnolia Bakery.

Elaina had been thinking about ordering some bread here since Jalen ordered takeout for her last time. Now that it was finally the weekend, Elaina asked Jenica out to have a taste together.

However…

Elaina looked at her watch. It had been half an hour since the appointed time, but Jenica still didn’t show up, which made her a little worried.

Ten minutes later, Elaina received a call from Jenica.

“Sorry, Ella. I have something urgent to deal with at the company. I’m afraid that I can’t meet you today.” As she spoke, Jenica looked at the man sitting opposite her, swallowing and suppressing

her anger.

Hearing Jenica’s words, Elaina almost yelled at her. “Can’t you deal with it after lunch? I’ve already

ordered it for you.”

Looking at the table full of cake and bread, Elaina couldn’t help but sulk.

“I’m so sorry, Ella. I can’t make it,” Jenica said.

Elaina was helpless. She could hear that Jenica was embarrassed and sorry. So Elaina said, “Alright, call me in advance before you stand me up next time.”

After hanging up the phone, Jenica angrily asked the man opposite her, “What exactly do you want from me?”

Elaina was lost in thought as she stared at the bread and cake in front of her.

Should she bite the bullet and finish all of them here, or just take them home for dinner?

Just as she was in a dilemma, someone sat opposite her. When Elaina saw who it was, her face instantly darkened.

“Mr. Halton, don’t you think it’s inappropriate for you to sit here without my permission?”
