Fall For Me

Chapter 46

Valerie’s POV

“Was I too mean to him?” I asked Janet who was helping me arrange my new items in the wardrobe.

“Boss is very strict but he is kind. He treats you differently, you should apologize to him”

“He asked me to leave, that’s what I’ve always wanted but somehow it feels like a wrong decision now” My voice was shaky, my expression was gloom and doom.

“You should stay!” Janet advised.

“I’ll stay for one week, apologize to him when we are on good terms. I’d plead to take my leave. He was so angry when he asked me to leave, I don’t want him to hurt my family because I left”

“Hmm…” Janet nodded

“What? You don’t believe that’s the reason I’m staying back? I don’t care if he is hurt or not, after all he hurt me too.

“He didn’t hurt you”

“He forcefully took me away from my parents and I’m still hurting. ” My face turned red and my lashes were blinking fast. I tried to hold back the tears but they rolled out. Janet walked to my bed, she reached out to console me but hesitated. I wrapped my hand around her waist and cried on her thigh.

“It’s fine Valerie. You’ll be fine” she patted my back. “I’ll run a bath for you, you’d have your bath, change into one of your new clothes, pack your hair nicely and go have a conversation with boss”

“No, I don’t want to,” I shrugged.

“You neither want to leave nor have a calm conversation with him, then what do you want?” She asked.

“I don’t know” I sniffed in a sob.

“Please go have a calm conversation with him. Apologize to him and ask nicely”

“Okay then, run my bath for me” I eventually agreed. Janet was a smart and sweet girl and that’s undeniable. She was a pretty blond, in those simple maroon gowns for maids, her beauty was still evident. She had a subtle voice and her words were soothing and assuring. “Your bath is ready, Valerie” She announced as she came out of the bathroom. I took off my clothes, wrapped myself in a robe and entered the bathroom.

I’ve had thousands of nightmares ever since I witnessed Carson shoot that maid, each day feels like I’m washing off the filth of blood. The guilt was stuck in my chest, the gunshot kept resounding in my head. My mind drifted away as I took my bath. “What kind of man is Carson? A kidnapper, a killer and how it never affects his business. Maybe I should just leave now that he has agreed to let me, why was I even hesitating?” I mumbled to myself as I took my bath.

I came out of the bathroom, Janet was still standing in my room, she was holding a dress in her hand for me to wear.

“This will suit you well” She presented.

“Whatever you say” I shrugged indifferently, I had my doubts.

Janet helped me prepare, it was almost like Carson’s room was not in this house because I have not intentionally looked this good since I came to this house. I wore the dress she chose, it was a flowery long gown with a slit up to my thigh-pretty too sexy for just talking to Carson.

“Don’t you think this is too much? Like I’m simply just going to talk to him not seduce him” My brows furrowed as I surveyed the dress. She ignored me and continued dressing my hair. She thung it into beautiful coils and added a glossy lip stick to my lips.

“Now you look the part” She breathed as she stepped back to examine my beauty.

“What part?”

“Beauty in beauty and the beast. You look ready for your fairytale”

“Oh please” I beat the air and stifled a smile.

I looked up at the mirror, admiring myself, it has been 2 months of not exploring my beauty.

Janet kept cheering me up as I left the room. She was more excited about this than I was. I got to Carson’s room, I took a long breath to reassure myself I was ready to face him. As I lifted my hand to knock on the door, the door opened-it was like a fairy tale magic, Carson was standing right in front of me and it took me by surprise. I lowered my gaze immediately, playing with my fingers like a nervous child.

He was speechless for a minute, I could feel his jaw drop. “V-Valerie, what are you doing here? ”

I lifted my gaze slowly to his, “I came to speak to you”

“I thought you were packing up to leave?”

“No, I changed my mind. I’d stay”. The words flee out with so much confidence than I had before leaving my room. His lips parted with excitement, there was a spark in his eyes. Now that I was staring at his eyes, he had shining brown eyes that were hypnosing and at the same time intimidating to look upon.

“Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all? … My Valerie!” There was a smile playing on his lips and even though I tried to fix my gaze on him so he wouldn’t check out my outfit, his eyes still flickered all over my body.

“Can I come in?” I asked, cutting short his staring, I was beginning to get shy under his gaze.

“I’m sorry, please come in” He invited me, he moved aside and allowed me to enter. He dragged a seat from his work table and put it close to his bed.

“Have a seat” he gestured politely. I mumbled “thank you” under my breath before sitting down.

“Where are you heading out earlier?”

“E-ermm, not really. I was coming to your room”

“To drag me out of your house yourself?” I made a face.

“You wish”

“I don’t” I replied almost immediately and regretted later because it made me look desperate to remain in his house. He sat down on his bed beside me and kept staring without saying a word.
