Chapter 87
Chapter 87 Carley Applied Pressure
The words were spoken without revealing anything, but every word and sentence was telling Walter not
to interfere in Ashley’s affairs.
I finally understood, Carley was determined to make Ashley leave the old house today.
Even without looking, one could tell how sour Ashley’s face had become at that moment.
But at that time, she had no right to say a word, nor did she have the right to refuse Carley’s request.
Perhaps knowing that she had to leave today, the always silent Ashley. looked at Carley and finally
spoke, “Carley, thank you and Walter for taking care of me during this time. I overstepped my
boundaries, I shouldn’t have been so captivated by the scenery of this old house and stayed for so
long. I had been thinking about going home to be with my mother a few days ago, but I didn’t expect to
find out that I was pregnant. Shocked, I decided to stay a few more days. Fortunately, my mother is
coming today, and I will go home with her later.”
I really admired Ashley a bit. Under such circumstances, she could still say these high-sounding words
without blushing or skipping a beat to save her own face.
Seeing her open her mouth, Carley unhesitatingly asked Dale to help Ashley pack up.
After informing Dale, he then turned to his mother and said, “Mrs. Conner, it’s rare for you to visit.
Would you stay and have dinner with us?”

Mother quickly refused with a smile, saying that there were still things to do at home and she needed to
go back early.
Both were masters of pushing boundaries, one feigning hospitality to keep guests, the other pretending
to be busy.
Dale moved quickly, and in no time, he had packed up Ashley’s things.
Mother exchanged a few polite words, then left the Hinton family with Ashley.
I was held back by Carley, saying that she had something to talk about.
To my surprise, it was Walter. I originally thought that Ashley was driven away by Carley, and given his
character, he would probably chase after her to see her off, and take the opportunity to comfort.
Ashley’s wounded heart. Unexpectedly, he didn’t say anything more.
He stayed with me.
“Walter, go attend to your business. I want to have a heart-to-heart talk with Tabatha,” Carley said after
the guests had left.
Walter nodded, his dark eyes landing on me before he left, his voice low as he said, “I’ll wait for you
outside.”
I didn’t speak up, waiting for me? He and I hadn’t reached the point of affection where we couldn’t bear
to part for a moment, probably because of Ashley being sent away.
Thinking of this, I felt somewhat weary, an indescribable weariness.
Walter left.
Carley handed me a cup of tea and looked at me, saying, “Sit down. I heard about the Conner Group.
Did you find out what happened? Did you get the money back?”
I shook my head, “Not yet.”
She nodded, uttering a sound of approval, “The matter has been clarified, knowing where the money
went makes things easier.” As she spoke, she lifted her eyes to look at me, saying, “You, kid, do have
some skills, but it’s a pity, you just don’t have a connection with our Walter.”
pursed my lips, knowing in my heart that she probably wanted to ask about my divorce with Walter. I
took the initiative and said, “Grandma, I will divorce Walter as soon as possible.”
Her hand paused slightly as she poured the tea, she looked up at me and asked, “Knowing that the
child in Ashley’s belly isn’t Walter’s, are you still planning to divorce Walter?”
I was taken aback, a bit confused. Wasn’t the divorce her idea? Why did it sound like I was the one
who wanted it?
I pursed my lips, looking at her and said, “Whether the child is Walter’s or not, grandma would have
made me divorce Walter, wouldn’t she?”
She laughed, her face etched with the traces of time, “You, child, are clever, I like that. It’s just a pity,
our Walter’s wife, she doesn’t allow for such a past.”
I remained silent, not responding. I would investigate the events from five years ago, clear my name
from those slanders, but I had no intention of telling Carley about this.
The thought of divorce crossed my mind, and it wasn’t entirely due to the pressure she put on me.
Seeing me silent, she looked at me and said, “Alright, as long as you understand these matters, that’s
enough. Keep the divorce matter in mind, just don’t disgrace the Ilinton family.”

I nodded, realizing that everything that needed to be said had been said, and stood up, ready to leave.
She stopped me as she spoke, saying, “It’s getting late. You and Walter should stay. It’s rare for the
younger generation of the Hinton family to all be back throughout the year. You should stay too, let’s
have a lively dinner together before you leave.”
