Chapter 46: True Love Should Be Where Both Parties Loved Each Other
Chapter 46: True Love Should Be Where Both Parties Loved Each Other
True love should be one where both parties loved each other. Anything less than that would just be
torture.
On the upstairs, Henry looked gloomily at the slender figure in the parking lot below. Was she really
that downhearted when Declan left?
"Luz Boone, did you ever think about the people you left behind?" he thought bitterly.
Downstairs, Luz couldn't help but sigh. Whether she was willing or not, she still hurt Declan. Feeling
guilty, she went back upstairs. Before she sat down, Linda knocked on her door again.
"Secretary Boone, Mr Maynard asked me to hand this report to you. He said that the contents were not
in line with his expectations. He asked you to make a new plan for him, and hand it to him before you
get off work today."
Linda's usually calm face showed a slight awkwardness as she relayed the instructions. She really did
her best be tactful, but she was still scared when she remembered Mr Maynard's dark expression when
he threw the document on her desk.
Luz was stunned for a moment and immediately understood. "Okay, I know. Thank you, Linda."
"You're welcome. If there's nothing else, I'll go out."
The door of the office was closed again. She glanced at the folder on the table. She had analysed the
plan for several days and had several discussions with various departments before coming up with this
plan. It might not have been perfect, but it was definitely up to expectations.
"I'll change it. It's not a big deal."
She knew that Henry was making a nuisance for her on purpose, but she couldn't do anything about it
since he was her boss. The boss was always right.
Just as she was about to get down to work, her phone rang. She relaxed when she saw the caller ID.
"Why are you calling me?"
Mia's law firm was small, but there seemed to be a lot of work to do all the time. It was a sign that
divorce was quite popular in a modern society.
"Congratulations on becoming Mrs Maynard again seven years after your divorce." Mia's teasing voice
came from the other side. She deliberately emphasized the word Mrs. Maynard, not caring what it did
to her on the other end.
"You called me to annoy me, didn't you?"
Others might not know, but her best friends should know better. If she wanted the title of Mrs Maynard,
she wouldn't have gotten a divorce just before going into labour and bring her child to the US alone.
"Of course not, as your best friend and divorce lawyer, I just want to check in on you to see if you still
need my services. Maybe one day you might get hit on the head and decide to remarry and then re-
divorce Henry Maynard. I can give you some bulk discounts on my services if that happens."
"Mia, can you still talk nicely?" She raised her voice a little. If she went on like this, she was really not
sure whether she would explode.
"Alright, I'll stop. Seriously, what is Henry Maynard trying to do? Is he still in love with you?"
"We're never ever getting back together."
Luz interrupted Mia quickly before she could say more. If she could have her way, she would move to
the other side of the world so that she and Henry would be as far away from each other as possible.
"Looks like I need to have to good talk with you sometime, with drinks," Mia sighed. Personally, she did
not think that Henry was someone she would marry on an impulse, but unfortunately, Luz did.
"Don't come to my house."
Luz rejected that notion immediately.
"Why can't I go to your house? Don't tell me that there's something in your house that I can't see." For
example, Henry?
"Of course not. It's just that Logan and I won't be staying there for some time. Grandma is getting old
and she's not in good health, so she wanted me and Logan to stay with her, so..."
She was trying to find the words to describe her situation when Mia shouted, "Don't tell me you're
staying at the Maynard's with Logan!"
"..."
"Fine, I give up. In my professional opinion, the Maynard Family villa is your ex-husband's home. The
two of you are legally divorced, and the assets are clearly divided between you, including the child's
custody, so it's not right that you stay with them."
"I know you study law. You don't have to tell me this. I don't want to stay there either."
If it weren't for Henry threatening her with Declan's company, she wouldn't have stayed with the
Maynard Family. After all, the more she saw Henry, the more awkward she would be. Moreover, she
wasn't made of steel. She still hurt every time she saw him.
"I'll have lunch with you tomorrow and have a good chat with you. I have a case to deal with later, so I
can't talk long. Bye."
Luz had gotten used to her busy nature. When she was about to hang up the phone, Mia added
another question hurriedly, "By the way, did Declan call you or go to the company to find you? Between
you and him..."
"He came here, and I told him everything. Mia, you know me. I know he's nice, but I really can't fall in
love with him. We can only be friends."
When it came to Declan, she felt a little guilty, but it was better to rip the bandage off quickly than
prolong the inevitable. Declan may be hurt now, but he would bounce back. It would be better than her
leaving him hanging.
"OK, I know, love cannot be forced. I wouldn't want to match you up then have to help you with your
divorce again. Alright, I'll talk to you tomorrow, bye."
After saying that, Mia hung up the phone and leaned back heavily into her chair.
"It's so much better to be single. I don't understand why people would want to go to all the trouble to
live with another person. The cost greatly outweighs the returns."
She muttered to herself, then checked her watched. She picked up the documents she needed and
drove to the court.
When her red Benz arrived at the court, there was a sexy woman waiting for her.
As soon as Mia got out of the car, the woman grabbed her arm and said with scheming eyes, "Ms
James, you're finally here. Court will be opening soon. I need you to get me as much alimony as
possible. Don't worry, I'll pay you anything you want."
"Ms Moss, I'm not worried about my payment. Our contract is clear on my dues. If you default, you'll
find yourself in the defendant seat."
Hearing her words, Sofia put on an embarrassed smile. "That's a good one, Ms James. I'm just trying
to get my worth back, since I wasted my prime on that man."
