Despicable Roommate

She likes him

The delivery guy.

There he stood with the box of pizza in his hands. I heard Alec laughing and realization hit me. My excitement over food had made me run to the door without even asking for the money. Alec walked over with his wallet in hand and paid.

I walked towards the table and put the box down, then continued to get plates as Alec headed to get drinks from the fridge.

While we ate, we talked about random stuff like what was stressing us at the moment. Alec seemed quite off. He was not his very playful and cheerful self. He didn’t state what exactly was bothering him when I inquired.

After getting done, I got to my room to change. It was a hot day so I replaced my ripped jeans with a pair of black shorts, the T-shirt with a blue tank top. Alec had told me that we were going to a beach.

“You know you don’t have to go with me if it’s not really fine with you,” I had told him as we ate because he didn’t seem like he was that enthusiastic about it. I didn’t want to be dropped at a beach then left to look for company. I could stay boring myself indoors or go see a friend.

“It’s perfectly fine,” He had said. “Now go and get ready quickly.”

The drive was not one of the most interesting. I didn’t know what to say considering that my mate seemed to be in a bad mood. Maybe my presence alone made him feel better so I couldn’t ruin the moment by opening my mouth. The silence made me really uncomfortable.

The only thing that was good was the music. It was awesome with tracks by The Weekend and Little Mix. I hummed along while looking straight at the room in front of us.

But when he realized I was enjoying it very much, he smirked and changed to what I hated. Hiphop. I hate that type of music but I smiled when he played it. It gave me hope that his mood was changing.

I hopped out of the car and immediately felt the rush of wind as it touched my overly hot skin. There were lots of people participating in different fun activities like walking, swimming, watching out for dolphins, writing and others were just relaxing as it was so hot.

The atmosphere was serene and peaceful. The sky was clear blue and there was no trace of a cloud. Walking hand in hand with my dream boy sealed it all for me. My happiness was complete and I guess even the Birds crying and singing loudly were happy for me.

The rush of the waves soothed me and I felt complete. Like I had no stress at all. That’s why I love beaches, they make me feel so relaxed and contented.

We walked along observing everything around then decided to play a game of half rubber. It was Alec’s suggestion and I had never taken part in it before. It was great and I realized I had been missing out on a lot.

“Can we go for a swim?” Alec asked.

“You can go,” I told him. “I just wanna laze around.”

“And check out hot dudes.” I added.

Alec laughed. “Well, there’s one right in front of you. Enjoying the view?”

“Yeah I see a real hot one behind you,” I said looking over his shoulder. “He’s really hot.”

“C’mon, I know there’s no one better than me anywhere around here.”

“Don’t be so cocky,” I laughed, staring at his beautiful face. “Just get to the water.”

“I’m not going anywhere without you,” He grabbed my wrist. “Let’s do some hiking.”

Off we went.

Later in the evening, we lay down to watch the sunset. I’d never been so relaxed around Alec like I was that day. It even surprised me that I felt like I’d known him my whole life.

“I feel so fine being here with you,” Alec broke the silence. I didn’t just know what appropriate answer I could give but since I was so happy being beside him, I said the same.

“It’s been a really nice day for me. It’s been long since I had such fun.”

“I know,” He smiled.

I punched his perfectly muscled arm but he felt nothing. “You don’t know anything, Alec.”

“What do you think about me?” He asked.

“What do you mean?”

“What you think of me?”

“I think you’re a nice guy. Cool and sweet.”

“And hot?”

“Not sure about that,” I lied.

He just smiled, almost shyly, might I add. He seemed to think for some time and silence reigned.

“I like you, Lynn.” He said startling me. I turned to look at him but he was looking up. I couldn’t decide whether he was serious.

Where did that come from?

It could be joke.

“I don’t like you” I joked.

“I’m serious,” He sat up.

I sat up too. He was serious? Well that was totally unbelievable. Alec liked me? That would take some good time for me to believe though I had somehow suspected he did. Scratch that I must have wished and well, sometimes our wishes are granted. If he truly liked me and wanted to be with me then that was the greatest gift I had gotten in decades

“Let’s take a walk,” He got up and I followed him.

“I can’t handle this anymore. I need you in my life, Lynn. I want us to work out. I really like you, Lynn and I don’t want to play around anymore. You’re the only girl I’ve ever wanted since I broke up with my first love. It’s been long since I wanted a girl like this. I really don’t know how to confess my feelings because I rarely do this. I know you don’t like me but you can try.”

I didn’t say anything.

“Please say something,” He stopped walking. “You’re scaring me. I think I should just walk away because I’m not worth it.”

“No Alec,” I stopped him,” You don’t have to walk away. How do you think I’ll feel if you do that? You know what, I’d feel so heartbroken because I like you.”

“Seriously?” He said, rather loudly. “Lynn likes me?”

“Shut up and don’t cause a scene.”

“I want the whole world to know,” He ignored my pleas. “YES! Y-”

I cut him off by pulling him close for the hug my body had been yearning for.

“You’re the best,” He hugged me back.
