Chapter 20
Chapter 20
***
I knew I was dead until I realized I was hanging in the air. Crying, I opened my eyes to see that
Anthonio had caught my wrist.
"Hold on!" he yelled as he tried to pull me up. My soul was leaving my body. I was scared to death. I
didn't want to look down. There I was, hanging from a high building, a few seconds away from death. I
was crying like crazy.
"Give me your other hand so I lift you."
My eyes were on his, I raised my right hand to hold his.
"STOP!" Rudolf screamed through the window of the room we'd just left. His men were already on the
roof and were slowly making their way toward us. They shot as they approached.
"OH MY GOD! ANTHONIO!" I screamed afraid. Bullets were shot but so far had missed us or would hit
close to us! Anthonio still tried to pull me up. As he did, Rudolfo shot him in the shoulder. I screamed
afraid as he groaned out in pain letting go of my right hand. I saw blood ooze rapidly out of his
shoulder!
"Anthonio! Oh, my god!" I screamed, realizing we might both die. I was swinging and I felt his hand
begin to slip! His wound was weakening him!
"I'm... I'm coming!" he grunted in pain.
"W...what?!?" I asked confused. br To my shock, he let go of my left hand!
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!" I was falling! I closed my eyes and all I could see was death. I
stopped breathing. It was over.
** br SPLASH!
I found myself in water. In a pool! I immediately swam out of it. I tried to catch my breath! It was a
horrible experience. I lay by the pool, coughing and trying to breathe. I thought of running but I couldn't.
I realized it was too dangerous for me to walk about that property, without Anthonio.
"Well, well, well." someone said and I turned in shock. The huge brat that had molested me stood right
there! His gun pointed at me. I swallowed and slowly stood up.
"Don't move!" he growled.
"P....please..." I was so scared.
"Shut up! I'm go-na kill you right now!" he growled. He adjusted his gun and I closed my eyes, awaiting
the worse and praying.
BOOM!
I shook.
No pain.
Slowly, I opened my eyes and the man was on the floor. Dead in a pool of his blood.
"Oh my!" I gasped. I'd never seen a dead person right in front of me before. Too scared to speak, I
turned to run away but then, there stood Anthonio with a gun in his hand. br He'd taken off his white
shirt and had tied his bleeding shoulder with it. His singlet was stained with blood too. He looked weak
as the gun in his hand dropped to the floor. I was speechless.
"Let's go," he said firmly and walked past me.
"An...Anthonio .."
He stopped in his tracks but didn't turn to face me. He simply looked above his shoulder, giving me a
side glance.
"Th...thank you..." It was all my fault. I owed him a thank you. At least.
He didn't reply and just continued to walk. The gunshots had scared everyone and so the guests had
all left, ending the ceremony while Rudolf's men were searching the house to look for us.
"Anthonio, we can't get to the car. They'll...they'll... Catch us."
We'd reach the wall fencing the whole compound. He turned to me and my surprise, he silently held my
waist and lifted me off the ground. He made me sit at the top of the high wall. He climbed too but I
could see that his shoulder caused him a lot of pain. He jumped onto the sidewalk on the other side of
the wall. I couldn't get down. It was a little too high for me. br He looked up.
"Jump." was his clear order. I couldn't disrespect him now. I jumped off and he caught me, then I stood
on my own. His silence made me guilty. Not only had I failed my mission, he got shot at. br We were on
the streets and I noticed our limo driving up to us. Silently, he got in and I followed. By the way, I was
still going to die.
** br That night, I collapsed on my bed and cried. I knew what was going to happen to me for the next
two days because, at the moment, only Anthonio, Velma, and I were at the mansion. The other men
along with the boss had gone away for two days. Who knew which country or city they were gonna
bomb this time around. br - br It was 1:00 AM. I changed into long nightwear and sat miserably on the
bed. Velma soon came in. She had a tray with first aid utensils on it.
"I came to see if you're alright," she said slowly.
"For the moment I'm alive. What are those for?" I asked, referring to the utensils.
"For Mr. Anthonio. To treat his wound."
"Wait. I can do it." I stood up, taking my blindfold "Let me treat him. It's my fault if he was shot."
"My dear I'm not sure..."
"Please." I cut in "Just guide me to where he is. I won't let him do anything to you. Please. He's done
enough."
I pleaded with Velma continuously until she agreed. Slowly, I tied my eyes and took the tray. She held
my hand and led me out of the room. That was the least I could do.
'This is probably a bad idea. But I'll still try.'
