Prologue

"I'm sorry, but it's for the best. I'm sure you're a wonderful man, but I am not going through this again. I, Natalia Chambers, reject you, Kyle Thompson." Natalia doubled over in pain for a brief moment, before standing back up and walking away. The young wolf will need a second chance mate now. "Oh Nat," I cried as I watched her from my platform, "I wish I could fix it, fix you. You are one of my most precious children."
I plucked some grass from the ground I was sitting on in frustration. How can I help her? She's closed her heart to the world and if it turns cold, it will eventually drive the purity of her soul, dark and her wolf, feral. She was one of the purest souls I'd ever encountered. She and Hestia had been through so much already. She deserved to have some happiness in their life, no matter how temporary it may seem to be. How can I help her, when I couldn't stop her from making that deal all those years ago? I began to walk around the platform, watching my children go about their lives below. I spent 4 years deep in thought when something caught my eye. I observed the situation while the gears in my mind were turning.
Finally, I smiled. "This could be tricky, but it might just work." I could resolve three major problems for my children if this worked. I stepped off my platform to the one below. The one with all the wolf spirits yet to be reborn. I spent a few months looking for her until I found the tree I was looking for. She had been sleeping in the little hollow of the tree for over a century. It was time for her to wake up. "Kara, it's time to wake up. I'm going to need your help," I said as I petted her beautiful black coat, making her purr in her sleep. "It's going to be a rough road ahead, but I've chosen your next human carefully. She will be born in a few years. I've set it in motion. You and her will be as one. Your bond with your mate will be one of the strongest I've ever created. Come little one, only my sister's wolf can handle such an important task."
