17. Befriend Flowers
Skylar rubbed her eyes and tried to sit up. However, a strong pair of hands were wrapped around her waist. She knew it was Louis but she couldn’t help but wonder when he had returned and why he chose to sleep in the room this time.
She closed her eyes and pursed her lips as several thoughts played in her mind.
“Did he touch me? Did he exert his right while I was asleep?
Skylar tried to turn to catch a glimpse of his face but Louis was holding her still. She wriggle herself out and managed to turn.
Skylar was stunned to see how peaceful he looked In his sleep. So innocent.
His face was perfectly carved. His brow was thick and brownish. His nose was long and sharp with a chiseled jawline. His face was perfect, nothing was out of place.
Everything was carved to enhance his extraordinary beauty.
He is an Adonis.
He looked like an angel, so innocent and sweet.
But is Louis Anderson an angel?
Skylar shook her head in denial. She would never make such a mistake. The sleeping Louis might be gentle but the real man is a monster.
“Like what you see?”
Louis’s euphonic voice startled Skylar.
She was caught gawking. So naturally, she was embarrassed. She looked at him in shock but his eyes were still closed.
“How did he know that I was staring at him?” Skylar wrinkled her face and shook her head.
“Monster!” She mumbled.
“I can hear you,” Louis said with a low chuckle.
Skylar was stunned and she immediately jumped out of his arms. He heard her call him a monster. Her crime this time is outrageous, who knows what punishment he’d mete out to her.
Louis looked down at the space beside him that has suddenly gone cold. He frowned at the emptiness and his aura suddenly became ferocious.
The sweet and gentle Louis from earlier was gone.
Earlier when Skylar woke up, Louis already knew. He had woken up as soon as she stirred but he was stunned by how peaceful he felt. He hasn’t slept so well for a long time. Hence he was surprised by the magic she wielded against his body.
How much his body obeyed her, it never did to him. He was able to enjoy the luxury of sleep which he had lost since his grandmother died but she ruined it by getting off without being told to.
“Foolish girl!”
“Goo… Good… Morning,” Skylar muttered as Louis got out of bed.
“What is so good about the morning?” Louis hissed with irritation.
First, she seduced him yesterday and when he tried to satisfy her, she denied him. Now, she made him sleep so well and when he wanted to bask in the peaceful ambiance she brought, she ruined it by running off.
Louis marched to the bathroom and closed the door with a bang.
Skylar placed her hand on her chest and she heaved in relief. He didn’t say anything about punishing her. Which means she’s safe for now.
The water in the bathroom soon stopped running; indicating Louis’s return to the room. Skylar jumped out of the room and went down the stairs.
“Good morning, madam,” Mrs. Alisa bowed as Skylar arrived in the hallway.
“Good morning,” Skylar replied with a smile.
She looked around in search of her handmaids but they were nowhere to be seen.
“Looking for someone?” Mrs. Alisa could tell that she was searching for something or someone.
“Yes… Uh… Alice….” Skylar didn’t know why she was stuttering or why she didn’t know what to say.
“Huh?” Mrs. Alisa couldn’t understand what Skylar was saying.
She stared strangely at the madam and wondered why Skylar mentioned her daughter.
“I mean…. where is Alice….. and maybe Helen?”
The question didn’t come out well but Skylar could think of no other way to ask the girls. Besides, she doesn’t need them at the moment, she only needed to escape from Louis and only the two girls could help her.
“Alice is somewhere around and Helen is on garden duties today. I’ll ask someone to call them over.”
“Where is the way to the garden?” Skylar looked upward.
Though she was speaking with Mrs. Alisa, her concentration was up the stairs. She was worried that Louis would catch up with her.
She couldn’t imagine what would happen to her if he catches up with her. He was mad earlier when he went inside the bathroom.
“You want to go to the garden?” Mrs. Alisa was surprised to hear that.
She looked from Skylar to the door of the master’s bedroom. Was she running from the master?
Mrs. Alisa knew that things weren’t right between the couple. She knew that the boss doesn’t care about the man and seemed to have restricted her movement.
Was she allowed to visit the garden?
Mrs. Alisa was afraid of getting on the boss’s nerves but she also feels sorry for the young madam. She deserves to live a good life. She is so young, yet, her life is so miserable.
“It’s that way.” Mrs. Alisa had no choice but to show Skylar the way.
“Thank You.” Skylar scurried in the direction where Mrs. Alisa pointed.
She gaped as soon as she saw the beautiful garden. Her jaw dropped and she turned around in circles to catch a full view of the garden.
“How could such a beautiful garden be around an iceberg like Louis? Skylar couldn’t resist the urge to touch the buds.
She leaned forward and inhaled the flowers. They smelled good.
“How do you survive life with that monster?” Skylar asked for the flowers. “I mean he’s so cold and cruel, don’t you think?”
She was talking to the flowers like they were humans.
Since she has no one to tell her problems to; she can as well become friends with the flowers.
“It has to be one of the girls that care for you, right? Because Louis would rather take lives than he can rear one.”
Skylar picked the withered flowers with her hands and she sorted the other ones. She saw a lake at the corner of the garden.
She grabbed the garden bucket and filled it with some water then she watered the flowers and planted some seeds which she found lying idly in the garden store.
She cleaned the place and gave it a whole new look.
She noticed a sunflower standing tall among the other flowers. She rushed forward and brushed her hand through it.
“Aren’t you so beautiful?”
She spoke to the flowers like she was expecting them to respond to her. She already succumbed to fate; life with Louis.
Even though she committed no crime, she was subjected to death. After all, life with Louis was nothing less than being subjected to death.
Skylar looked around and smiled woefully. If she can’t make friends or talk to anyone; she can at least befriend flowers.
