Chasing My Ex-wife Back

Chapter 31

Chapter 31

“Where are they?” Debbie asked after her god babies as she stepped in with her purse and a bag with goodies for the little boys.

“Their rooms. They wouldn’t even watch TV with me in the living room.”

Hailey shut the door behind her after her best friend was in. Then they walked side by side away from the door.

“I knew they were going to throw tantrums. You just wouldn’t believe me.” Debbie stared at her Hailey as they made. their way towards the living room.

“What now? So I’m the bad person here?” Hailes stopped in her tracks, trying so hard to hold back tears. “I don’t know why everyone is tagging me as a bad person. I was almost killed. I don’t know why the kids don’t understand that I am doing all that I can in my power to protect them. I have taken care of them alone all my life. I cannot

off the commer believe they are turning their back against me. At least at this young age. Hailes sniffled, wiping tears of her eyes.

Debbie dumped the bags she was holding on a close by table and pulled her friend into a hug.

“You are overthinking.”

“Enzo and Oliver refused to talk to me or eat the food I served them and you think I’m overthinking. I am so hurt. right now.”

Debbie shook her head. “That’s not what I mean. I promise you that the twins love you. They are just overwhelmed by the situation. And I understand you are trying to protect them. But they won’t

understand that. For the first time in their lives, they tasted how it felt to bond with their Dad and they didn’t want to let go.”

“You and Ty were right. I shouldn’t have accepted to work in my Grandfather’s company. If I had refused, I would still have my peace of mind, I would never have run into Cole and my children would still love me.”

“There is no point crying over spilled milk. Please stay calm.” Debbie gave Hailey’s hand a light squeeze. “And I promise you that they don’t hate you. They are just overwhelmed.”

“I hope so!”

“Let me check up on them.” Debbie gave her friend another light squeeze on the shoulder after which she made her way towards the twins‘ room.

“Aunty Debbie,” Enzo called out, crying all over again the moment he sighted Debbie. He was seated on his bed while his twin brother, Ollie, had fallen asleep on his own bed.

“My love,” Debbie made her way toward Enzo’s bed, sat close to him, and pulled him into a long hug. “Please don’t cry, sweetheart.” Debbie regretted her words almost immediately because it was as though she triggered a very sensitive part of him with her words.

It took a while for Debbie to calm Enzo but she was able to calm him down eventually.

She pulled away from the hug and wiped the tears away with her thumb.

“I don’t like mommy again.”

“Don’t say that, Enzo. Your mom will be crushed to hear that.”

the chased Daddy away.”

How do you know that?”

Daddy was here last night. He is not here anymore.”

tebbie sighed, thinking of the right words to say to the little boy in a way that he was going to understand.

Please, don’t think that way.”

But I want Daddy!”

And that doesn’t mean mommy is a bad person.”

She is.

Enzo!!”

She says she loves us but she won’t give us Daddy.”

Jebbie smiled sadly, caressing the little boy’s chubby cheeks. “Your mom and I have been friends for years and she s one of my favorite people on earth. Never for once did she treat me unfairly and even in my next life, I am going to choose her as my best friend.”

‘Hailey loves you and your brother so much and I know she would do anything for you both. It’s just that some things are just really hard to understand.”

“We want Daddy to live with us. It’s simple.”

Debbie continued caressing the little boy’s cheek. “If that is going to happen. It is going to take a while.”

“But why? We have a guest room. Daddy can share Mommy’s room with her and if she is mad at him, Daddy can share our room with us.”

“Daddy read us a bedtime story yesterday. We want him to read a story to us today and tomorrow too but Mommy is not being nice.

“You know your mom feels bad about this too. You and Ollie have been hard on her and it breaks her heart. She said you both didn’t eat your food..

“We want Daddy!” Enzo said with pleading eyes once more.

Debbie heaved a long sigh. “We are going to do something about it. You will see your Dad soon, okay?”

“Promise?”

“Only if you promise that you will be good to your mom and you will eat your food.”

“But I don’t want to talk to mommy until I see Daddy!” Enzo frowned, folding his arms.

“Enzolir

“Mommy is mad at Daddy. I don’t know why. So I should be mad at her too.”

“That is not the reason, baby. I told you earlier that it is complicated. But I give you my word that you are going to see Daddy soon, okay?”

Enzo nodded reluctantly.

Debbie left his side and made her way over to Ollie who was sleeping. She could see stains of dried tears on his check.

“Olive::

“Omg, you are burning up.”

The little boy heard that very familiar voice so he slowly opened his eyes.

“My love.” Debbie pulled Ollie closer to him, making him sit on her lap. She brought her hand to his forehead. “You are burning up!”

“I’m fine, Aunt Debbie.

“No, you are not.”

“I have spoken to Enzo. Your mom and I will make sure Daddy comes soon.”

Ollie said nothing in return, as though not believing every word that came out of her mouth.

Enzo got down from his bed and came to check on his brother.

“Are you good, Oliver?”

Ollie nodded, not minding the fact that he was burning up,

“You both are going to make your Daddy unhappy.”

“How?” The twins said in unison, staring at Debbie intently.

“Do you think your Daddy will be happy if he hears that you all refused to eat your food and you’ve not been good to Mommy?”

Ollie and Enzo stared down at their hands in shame..

“We were hoping mommy would bring Daddy to us,” Ollie mumbled.

“And she will. It might take a bit of time but you will see Daddy again, okay?”

The twins nodded.

“Let’s get you both fed up. I don’t mind feeding you all.”

Debbie gently placed Ollic to his feet after which she rose to her feet and exited the room, holding Ollie by her right and Enzo by the left.

Hailey made food and the boys ate. She fed Ollie while Debbie fed Enzo. The duo had their dessert, after which they settled on the Couch in the living room, and watched some cartoons for the first time that day.

“I don’t know what you said to them but Thank you” Hailey took a glance at her friend who was seated on the tool by the counter before turning her attention back to the dishwasher.

“I tried calming them with every excuse I could think of. They didn’t mind me for a bit.

“I hope you d

don’t think that they hate you.” Hailes stopped what she was doing and faced Debbie for a bit.

“I have never seen them this way. It was almost as though I was the evil one and I was doing something really

wrong.

They are just so confused. That’s why.”

“I was really hurt. I am glad Ollie’s fever is gone. I promised myself no more hospital runs. I have been all ov place all day. I’ve got some work to look through but my mind has been a mess.”

“I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I would have felt the same way. But you know this remedy is just temporary right?”

Hailes frowned. “What do you mean?”

“You have to give Cole access to them.”

“No.” Hailey shook her head, “that’s never going to happen. She turned her attention back to arranging in the washer.
