Book2-Chapter 12
Book 2 Chapter 12 ~Maya~
Using my hands, I try to push off him to leave, but Vance's grip doesn't loosen, nor does he falter as I squirm to get off him. A deep, thunderous growl leaves him, and his teeth elongate, protruding from his lips
"If you think I am letting you walk out of this damn booth dressed like that, you are mistaken
Now answer me! Why. Are. You. Here. Maya?" He growls each word out. My entire body trembles when his aura rushes out, trying to get me to submit to him, but my hand moves just as quick and connects with his face
"Let me go. You have no right to hold me here,"
I snarl at him. If he 1s shocked I slapped him, he doesn't show it, but he also doesn't react
"As youre Beta, I have every right. Now fucking
answer me!"
I grit my teeth, biting back from saying something stupid like telling him to fuck off and mind his own business; instead, I simply answer
"I'm working, I bloody work here," I tell him
"Not anymore, you don't," he growls. I scoff and glare at him
"You can't make me quit. There are no laws preventing pack members from working in a strip club, Beta!" I spit at him. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have other patrons to entertain."
Vance's eyes flicker dangerously, but he knows I'm right; he can't demand I quit. And why does he even care? It's not like we're friends?
"Why would a little rich girl work here of all places? Are you doing this as an act of rebellion against your parents?" he laughs. I roll my eyes and try to climb off him once again. I'm done with this conversation
Yet when I try, Vance holds me in place. "Let me go before I get security to remove you, I have work to do," I snap at him

Vance doesn't let me go but dig into his pocket with one hand. He pulls out his wallet, tossing it on my lap. "Not tonight, you don't," he growls
I laugh and shake my head. "You can't be serious; my shift has just started; you're going to pay for that?" I laugh at him. He doesn't
"I suggest you dance, Maya. The only person you're shaking your ass for tonight is me," he tells me, and I shake my head. I can't dance for him now, not with him knowing who I am. I... it's stupid, but now it feels wrong. Before he realized it was me, I could pretend it didn't matter, but now?
Vance slaps my ass. "Dance, Maya, or I am dragging you kicking and screaming from this place," he warns me, and I grit my teeth, knowing that would definitely get me fired
"What's it gonna be?" A low growl leaves me, and I begin to move my hips. Yet Vance glances away like he can't bear to look at me despite insisting on keeping me here
It's stifling and degrading that I have to perform for Vance. Yet the money is desperately needed, and I am in no position to let my pride get in the

Back at the Hollow Estate, bills still need paying, and cupboards still need filling. And now more than ever, I am reliant on this job, no matter how much it pains me
The music pulsates around us, growing in intensity that drowns out Vance's heavy breathing and the increasingly muffled chatter of the club's patrons. I force myself to focus on it as I rhythmically sway my hips
I watch Vance from under my lashes as I move; his fingers tense against the worn leather seat, and his jaw clenches as tightly as his eyes are shut. An unexpected sense of satisfaction bubbles up within me; he 1s uncomfortable, and it is entirely his own doing
"Is this what you wanted?" I ask him bitterly, the words barely audible over the deafening beats
His eyes flicker open then, meeting mine with a
glare. He seems to be at war with himself because his gaze keeps flickering at his wolf
