Chapter 39
Boooom!!!
The sound of a popped champagne snatched her attention and she tilt her head to look at the waiter in front of her. She moves her daze back to Jaxton and pinches her hand to be sure it was real and she wasn’t in some fantasy world.
Suddenly, a huge display of balloons took place and the people who had been pretending to be eating all these while started to cheer. Clapping and urging her to accept his proposal.
Sydney was uncomfortable and wanted to refuse but as he looked around again, the smiles and encouraging words he people threw at her made her dismiss the thought.
She decided to be in the moment and actually feel it. Jaxton did all this for her, he prepared a surprise for her. In all her years nobody has ever thrown her a surprise so this was uplifting to her.
All her doubts were suddenly wiped away and all she could think of was a beautiful smile on his face. He went through all the stress to make her feel special, Paxton wasn’t going to bully her again and that was because of him. So she ought to be grateful and lead to the promise he made to him.
Yes, she knew she was making a mistake but why call it a mistake when it makes one so happy. A mistake that sends goosebumps into her stomach, a mistake that makes her blush and forgets her worries, a mistake that is ready to protect her. She would choose that mistake over and over again if it places itself before her.
“Yes, I will be your girlfriend Jacton.” She smiled genuinely, her pupils folding into her eyelids.
He kissed his teeths and leaned forward, “yes?” He asked softly, a smile stealing his face.
“Yes.” She chuckled.
He leaned close and gave her a snogging kiss, the audience mumbled an ‘aww’ wiping off imaginary tears.
He pulled out of the kiss and stood up, grasping a bottle of champagne.
“She said yes, she would be my girlfriend and give me the honour to date her!!!” He shouted and popped the champagne, making the contents splash on himself. He was that happy.
“Uhhhhhh!!!!” The crowd jubilated in his success. “Congratulations man, your girlfriend is so pretty.”
“Oh my God! You’re crazy!” Sydney said between laughter, covering her face like a shy princess.
“For you I am.” He chuckled and pulled her out of the seat leading her outside.
Kpuff….. kpuff…..
“They are everywhere!” Sydney marveled at the so many fireworks displaying in the air.
She threw her head around not wanting to miss any of them. Jaxton watched her with amusement, he had thought he would reject him but she does have feelings for him after all.
He was behind her and laughed at the unnecessary gestures she was making, her smiles made him so happy that he felt safe around her.
“You’re so pretty.” He muttered, staring lustly at her. He couldn’t believe that she was finally his and he could have her anytime.
He looked forward to Paxton’s reaction when he finally broke the news to him.
“Yeah, it’s so pretty that I can’t stop looking, thank you.” Her voice was smooth and heavy with emotions.
She was so excited and she wanted to stay at the fireworks forever, life has tormented her enough. It’s only normal that she enjoys it the longest.
Jaxton walked behind her, hugging her from the back. He whispered nothing into her ears and her giggles rent the air.
It was a joyous moment for both Sydney and Jaxton, a moment they never wished to end as if they feared something bad might happen to them the next day.
It was almost midnight so Jaxton drove Sydney home, they kissed for so many minutes before they finally released each other.
“Goodnight love.” He said to her and she pulled the door open but not without giving him a final peck on the lips.
“Goodnight.” She smiled and walked into her apartment.
Jaxton watched her go and remained there until she shut her door, he was just so happy about their date. He ignited his car and pulled out of her compound.
Sydney watches him leave from the window and fall on the couch, exhaling deeply. Truth was, she wasn’t totally comfortable with the whole proposal thing. It was so unexpected and she was already facing a bad day so it wasn’t her fault if she fell for his seductions.
Actually, she felt that kissing him would at least make her fall in love but she has gotten so many kisses from him that it wasn’t any different.
Christ lord!
Why did she ever have to accept his proposal? There’s no way Paxton would agree, for someone who poured her hot coffee there’s no way he would feel any remorse in such short notice.
This was just too good to be true and she fears something worse would take place the next morning.
Sydney couldn’t get any sleep as thoughts of the proposal bothered her, she already accepted to be his girlfriend so there’s no turning back.
She left the couch to freshen up and changed into her pajamas. She cremamed herself and paused when she got to her swollen neck.
Flashes of how Paxton poured his coffee on her, how he grasped her hand and shouted to her face rushed back with full force.
“Stay away from my brother!!!” Paxton’s voice resounded I’m her head. “If the thought of ruining my brother ever crosses your mind you would remember this pain–”
She jerked up instantly, throwing her cream away at impulse. It was as if she was back to that moment when Paxton was yelling at her, it felt so real.
Her face crumbled, washing off all the excitement she was feeling a couple of minutes ago. She swallowed the bitter saliva that was forming in her mouth and scolded herself.
She felt guilty all of a sudden and regretted ever accepting to become Jaxton’s girlfriend.
Now her life is doomed…
She made up her mind to cut off the relationship tomorrow and only then was she able to get some sleep.
