Chapter 11 Blanche Was Starving
Louis suddenly changed his expression, frightening the servant. "Yes, we will go check right away."
A soft rapping on the door interrupted the silence.
Blanche lay on the bed, feeling weak and hungry.
"What's the matter?"
"Mrs. Herbart, are you okay?"
Someone finally came to check on her, and Blanche was delighted. She quickly got out of bed and walked to the door to open it, but still couldn't open it.
"Are you here to bring me food? Open the door and bring it in. I'm not feeling well and I'm starving."
The servant hesitated for a moment. "Mrs. Herbart, you should apologize to Mr. Herbart. He hasn't given any instructions, so we can't provide you with any food either."
In an instant, Blanche's expression turned sour, for she knew that her pride was worth more than a meal, and she would rather go hungry than apologize to Louis.
As the sky darkened, Blanche made her way to the mirror, her stomach empty and her body weary. Standing before the mirror, Blanche gazed upon her lovely face, which seemed to have lost a few pounds since the morning.
She pinched her face and wondered if she would be the first daughter-in-law of a wealthy family to starve to death.
Putting on her mask, she knew that complaining was useless. Blanche swallowed and, enduring her hunger, picked up a highlighter and began to sketch the lines of a ring.
Another round of knocking echoed through the door.
Someone was knocking on the door, and Blanche glanced at the door but didn't respond. Since it wasn't anyone bringing her food, she didn't bother.
"Blanche, it's Eric."
Who was Eric? Blanche frowned and thought for a moment. He must be the son of Louis' uncle.
The sound of the door lock turning came from outside, and the door opened.
Eric held the key and first stuck his head in. When he saw Blanche, he was pleased and walked in.
"You are my sister-in-law, the number one ugly woman in Cloud City, right? You're wearing a mask, so it must be you."
Blanche twitched the corner of her mouth in embarrassment, and she turned her head. This brat's mouth couldn't be any more poisonous. If she held the title of the number one ugly woman in Cloud City, he would be the number one ugly man in the city.
Seeing that Blanche completely ignored him, Eric boldly approached her.
"Blanche, what are you doing? I know about your situation. My cousin is such a scumbag. How can he not let you eat? He's too much."
Blanche was rendered speechless.
He called Louis a scumbag? Well said.
It dawned on Blanche that Eric was quite attractive himself, and that good looks ran deep in the Herbart family.
"What do you want from me?"
Eric grabbed Blanche's arm. "Come on, and let's go eat. You haven't eaten anything all day, right?"
Blanche's gaze fell on the spot where Eric had grabbed her arm, and he realized his behavior was inappropriate and released his grip.
"Don't misunderstand me. I just thought you were so hungry after not eating all day that you got worked up. My cousin really went too far. Is this something a human being would do?"
As she looked towards the door, Blanche's eyes were filled with longing, as if outside was a table full of delicious delicacies.
She must fill her stomach, no matter what. If she had to apologize to Louis to eat, she would rather starve to death today.
Blanche walked towards the door, and behind her, Eric caught a glimpse of the design draft on the table.
"Hi, Blanche, this is a ring design, quite professional," Eric remarked.
"I know. You must be a jewelry designer?"
Blanche turned around and tucked away the draft. "I'm not a jewelry designer, just a casual drawing. Aren't you taking me to dinner?"
"It's impossible. Your design looks very professional. How could it be just a casual drawing?" Eric looked incredulous.
Blanche rubbed her forehead. She was starving and didn't want to waste another minute. She ignored Eric and headed downstairs, and Eric had no choice but to follow.
After going downstairs, Eric called for the servants to bring the food.
The servants were hesitant, as they had not yet received the young master's permission.
"Don't worry. I'll be responsible for everything. Hurry up and bring the food. If she starves to death, you'll all be in trouble."
Following a moment of shared confusion, all of the servants gave a nod of approval and headed off to the kitchen.
This time, Blanche gave Eric a grateful look.
Soon, the food was brought up to her room.
Blanche pointed to the room upstairs. "Take it to my room. I'll eat in there."
After a satisfying meal, Blanche stretched lazily. She was so satisfied.
After eating, Blanche went downstairs, and the servants didn't stop her. After all, Eric said he would take responsibility.
"Come and sit here, Blanche." Eric was still there, browsing his phone and looking for a birthday gift.
