Chapter 28 Argument
Jason went into the house after Rejoyla. He asked, "Do you still remember how you were caught?
Whose phone did you answer before rushing out?" Brady checked Rejoyla's call records and found it was a public phone, which was troublesome to trace the location. On his side, however, the camera at he bank beside the Crown Palace Hotel caught the license plate number, so he could find her by checking the license plate number.
Even though she was rescued, Jason wanted to know who was behind the whole thing, otherwise she might be in danger again.
Rejoyla was taken aback and then said, "It was my classmate from college. She said she was coming to the Crown Palace Hotel, but got off the taxi early, so I went to the gateway to pick her up. She has nothing to do with this, right?"
"No one can say for sure whether she has anything to do with this till I investigate. Leave this to me. I'll handle it. Don't say anything when you go back today, and I'll also tell everyone else so. It's better not to let the Sterling family know about this."
"Oh." Rejoyla was not happy. She was not a fool. She happened to be doped unconscious by someone right after leaving the hotel, and the person who called her did not use her own phone but a public one, for she lost her own. Why so many coincidences? Rejoyla couldn't figure out why someone would do such a thing to her.
"Stop thinking about it if you can't figure out why. Rejoyla, put away your ridiculous kindness. This incident can be considered a lesson for you. Let's see if you dare to wander around in the future!"
"How do you know I can't figure out why?"
Jason didn't bother to answer this question. Everything was on her face, so he could tell by simply looking at her. Rejoyla didn't insist that Jason answer her question, but she felt uncomfortable and wanted to chat with someone, and now there was no one else in front of her besides Jason.
Rejoyla then started rambling. She talked about her old embarrassing experiences, and after speaking, she lay there and laughed, but Jason gave her no response, and so Rejoyla changed from laughing to crying. She didn't look nice at all while crying.
Jason stared at Rejoyla's back for a while, then raised his hand and slowly rubbed Rejoyla's back.
Rejoyla turned her head and looked at Jason with tears in her eyes. "Tell me, why? What did I do wrong? Why was I treated like that? Doesn't she know the consequence of doing this? Why is there such a person? We've been good friends... Hmmm!"
Rejoyla widened her eyes and looked at the perfect face close at hand. She blinked and then realized what Jason was doing, and she immediately struggled. Jason pressed Rejoyla's arms, and deepened the kiss he was giving to her.
He was so annoyed by her constant talking that he had to do that to stop her. In Jason's opinion, Rejoyla's ambivalence was simply incomprehensible. He thought as long it was confirmed that the person did it, they could just take revenge by hitting back ten or a hundred times harder. Why bother to think that much if they were enemies already? It would only make herself unhappy!
Jason successfully used this way to silence Rejoyla, and she didn't dare to speak until disembarking. She huddled in the corner of the sofa, avoiding Jason, afraid that this guy would do something even crazier to her.
If Jason knew what Rejoyla was thinking, he would definitely say that she thought too much. He was not a pervert. After what Rejoyla had gone through, Jason knew what she needed most at the moment was to rest well.
The ship finally landed, and the moment Rejoyla stepped off the ship, she felt like she had gained new life. Since this time, she got a bad feeling for ships, so probably for a long time she would not take a ship anymore.
"Joy!" Brady, who had long received the news waiting on the shore, rushed forward and tightly grasped Rejoyla's arm. He looked Rejoyla up and down and said, "Are you okay? That's great. Thank goodness, you're okay!"
Rejoyla didn't expect Brady to be so worried about her. Her nose twitched. It seemed like there was still someone who liked and cared about her after all. She answered, "Mr. Nelson, I'm okay. Thank you!"
"That's great that you're okay! Great!"
Brady couldn't say any sweet words right now; he just stared at the girl before him. The thought of nearly losing her made Brady heart ache, and now he realized that he had more than a little crush on Rejoyla. He liked her. No, it should be he liked her very much. Brady was clear about his true feeling to Rejoyla and held onto her arms tightly. This time, he wouldn't let go of her anymore.
Jason cut in between them and forcefully parted his hands off her. "This isn't the place to talk. Do you wish everyone to know about it?"
Brady suppressed all his questions in his throat. Unwillingly, he watched Rejoyla following Jason, and he had to keep up. His eyes were fixed on Rejoyla without blinking.
When Rejoyla was in the car, she probably felt completely safe, so her tense nerves relaxed. She felt dizzy and fell asleep on Jason's shoulder.
When Rejoyla woke up, the car had already arrived at the mansion of the Sterling family. The weather was hot, so Rejoyla's clothes had already dried automatically. Apart from the salty smell of
seawater and the foul smell of being stained in the cabin, everything else was fine.
Rejoyla rubbed her eyes and got out of the car. What had been awaiting her was Jacquelyn's glare.
She pulled Rejoyla over and nodded to Jason and Brady, saying, "Thank you Jason. Brady, your grandfather is upstairs. I'm going back with Joy now!"
Jacquelyn dragged Rejoyla away before she could speak up.
"Hey, slow down. I'm wearing high heels..."
Finally, they arrived at Rejoyla's room. Jacquelyn released the hand that was dragging Rejoyla and reached out to tap her forehead. She criticized her by saying, "Rejoyla, what's wrong with you? How dare you stand me up? What are you trying to do? Do you know how much effort it took me to get that old man to agree to introduce you to a date? You agreed, but then disappeared. The boy called over and directly asked the old man. Do you know how embarrassed I was at that time? Then I had to keep apologizing to him. Rejoyla Lynn, why can't you make me worry free a bit?
Rejoyla frowned and said, "Now that we missed each other, it means we have no fate. Don't set us up on another blind date. I can't believe he told Mr. Sterling. This goes to show he must not be broad-minded. I don't want to be with this type of man. All right, let's just let this go!"
"What did you say? Don't you dare say it again! He called Mr. Sterling because he liked you. How can you think he is not broad-minded? Alright, I already made you a date with that boy tomorrow night. No more contingencies this time. You heard me?"
Rejoyla whined, "I'm not going!"
Jason would kill her. Thinking of the condition she promised Jason, Rejoyla felt a drumming in her temples, and she instantly became unhappy. "It's always been your own wishful thinking. I've never said I want to be with this kind of man. What's good about this kind of man? He has money and
power. How could he possibly fancy a drag like me? I must know what I am. I'm just a nobody to the Sterling family. I can't compare to the legitimate daughters of the Sterling family. Has it never occurred to you that there's some funny business involved? Why doesn't he pursue one of the legitimate daughters but fancy me? Something must be not right. You only care about whether he has money or not. Are you going to sell your daughter?"
"Rejoyla, say it again?" Rejoyla really made Jacquelyn angry. Her lips were trembling, and so was her index finger that was pointing at Rejoyla. Her face went long and pale. In fact, it was not that no one had ever said that she was a shameless money worshipper, and that she married the old man for money. She didn't care, for she indeed married Mr. Sterling for money. She thought that those who said such things were envious of her, and that they had no way to marry a rich old man!
However, when this came out of her daughter's mouth, Jacquelyn felt a moment of embarrassment. Anyone could think of her that way, but her daughter couldn't.
"Rejoyla, whom did I do this for? You! Don't you feel guilty for saying that to me? Without me, where did you get your food and clothes? Without me, would you be able to stand here and criticize me today? I raised you, and you're not grateful."
"But I didn't ask you to marry an old man, did I? I have a job and I can feed myself and take care of you. Why did you have to marry the old man? Let me put it bluntly, you did it for your own pleasure. Don't blame me for everything. I never asked you to marry him. You'd better divorce now, immediately!
"You..." Jacquelyn was lost for words, and then finally said, "You must go tomorrow. I'll tie you up if I have to!" With that, she left.
"I'm not going!" Rejoyla yelled after Jacquelyn and sat down on the sofa.
"Did you two fight again?" After Jacquelyn left, Joana Howard leaned out at the door. Seeing Rejoyla sitting there with a long face, she quickly trotted over and said, "Don't be angry. Mom is also for your own good. It's a little harsh of you to say that about her!"
"What I said is the fact. No one asked her to marry the old man. Doesn't she know what those women in the Sterling family say about her behind her back?"
"They say what they want. It has nothing to do with us. They're not going to kick us out anyway. Joy, are you still thinking about Dad? It's been so long. Can't you still let it go? Mom is now your only relative. You should cherish her, otherwise, you'll definitely regret it in the future!"
Rejoyla looked at Joana in bewilderment, asking, "Why are you being sentimental all of a sudden?" This wasn't Joana's style!
Joana took a look at Rejoyla, and just as she was about to approach her, she suddenly sniffled and said, "What's the smell on you? It smells so bad. Did you go into a pigsty?"
"I didn't! Never mind! I'm taking a shower. You can come later!" She also couldn't bear the smell on her. She was busy arguing with Jacquelyn before, and now she calmed down, she was about to faint from the smell.
She didn't quite understand how Jason could withstand the smell and kiss her. Didn't he feel nauseous? Rejoyla thought about it as she walked to the restroom. She showered for a long time until she smelled just fine. Rejoyla had just come out of the restroom when she opened the door and saw a person sitting on the sofa.
