Chapter 8: Could You Please Turn On the Light?
“Fifteenth?” Emma slightly wrinkled her nose and stared at Lawrence with an innocent look. “What’s
wrong with fifteenth? Will daddy get sick?” Lawrence turned his body a little to the side and shot a
dreadful look towards Jeffrey. His grasp towards Emma as he hugged her unnoticeably tightened.
“Daddy’s okay, you don’t have to worry.” He handed Emma towards Jeffrey when Jeffrey finally
understood his meaning and summoned several men. He endured the continuous rush of cold and
heat inside his body and smiled blandly at Emma. “Be a good girl and play with Jeffrey, daddy would go
find you very soon.” Emma nodded and left with the men docilely.
The moment they left, Lawrence who was tensing his muscles instantly relaxed. He stooped and
supported himself with the wall, puffing hard. “Mr. Harris!” Jeffrey wanted to hold him but he was
pushed away. “Where’s the blood?”
“I’ve made the call, the person delivering the blood is on the way. If nothing’s gone wrong, he should be
here soon…” Jeffrey spoke and turned his head. As he was going to say something else, he was
startled when his eyes fell onto Lawrence.
His illness had started to recur. Veins started to bulge at one side of his face and his whole face
became creepy and horrifying. Jeffrey had seen that many times all these years. It was just that
besides the change in his face, he was sensitive enough to detect the anomaly in his body…
“Mr. Harris, could it be that…” Lawrence raised his head and pressed his chest. He gritted his teeth and
closed his eyes. “I’m drugged.” Being drugged and the recurrence of his illness had both happened at
the same time during the first day he returned to City B. It was indeed a surprising gift from stranger.
Feeling shocked, Jeffrey’s expression became awful. He extended his hand to take the phone the
moment he reacted. “I’ll call Miss Miller and ask her to come now. You’re a couple and she’s also your
blood provider. It could be that you don’t need the blood anymore after you’ve finished doing the
business with her.”
It was just that before he could make the call, Lawrence’s voice was heard. “No need.” The veins on his
forehead were throbbing, his chest was rising and falling. His face looked fierce and appalling, and
there was something in his eyes that could not be explained. His voice was exceptionally cold that no
one could say no. “Call somebody, I only want the blood. I’ll deal with the rest.”
“Mr. Harris…” Jeffrey still wanted to say something but a cellphone was tossed towards him. The phone
instantly broke into pieces with a crack. “Go, now!” Jeffrey did not dare to speak anymore. He glimpsed
at Lawrence and the room door which was tightly shut before him. Not knowing what he had figured
out, he dashed towards the end of the corridor like a wind.
Lawrence slid down the wall. He put his hands on the icy floor, closed his eyes and leaned against the
wall. He gritted his teeth to endure the double torture from both his illness and libido and puffed hard.
There was the continuous yelling and patting sound of the door from Charlotte not far away.
“Lawrence, let me out! It’s really not me, I didn’t try to harm that kid.”
“Please open the door, I can explain.”
“I beg you, please open the door, it’s too dark in here…”
Lawrence reopened his eyes instantly. Hearing Charlotte’s yell, the veins on his forehead throbbed.
The desire in his eyes faded and was replaced by coldness. He stood up while supporting himself the
next second and rushed there while staggering all the way.
The door was kicked open at once. Charlotte who was behind the door did not see that coming and she
fell back due to the large impact. The man’s lofty figure stood straight beside the door. His shadow
made him looked like he was an avenger that came from darkness.
Charlotte tried to stand up while stumbling. She scrambled and pounded towards him, gripping the leg
of his pants. “Please turn on the light, could you please turn on the light?”
