Chapter 48
If only she had gotten the chance to see this message from her mother in the past, maybe, just maybe she wouldn't have died so pathetically on her wedding anniversary night.
It was only when she felt a teardrop fall on the back of her hand did she snap out of it. She wiped her eyes with the back of her hand as she grabbed the second black envelope and opened it.
She was taken aback by surprise when she saw two Gold credit cards with different bank names written on it. Her mother had actually prepared money for her incase she needed some money before she inherited her property. And here she was thinking how broke she was a few minutes ago.
"Haha, isn't this too nice of you, mom? That's right, I will become a stronger and more powerful woman than you can even imagine, mom. Just wait and see how I deal with those traitors. I've failed you once, but I won't this time around. Thank you for this second chance." Rose mumbled under her breath, a wide smile appeared on her face.
"Now, all I have to do is test and be sure that these two credit cards are still working perfectly." Rose stood up from the seat, folded the red letter back and placed it back in the vault then walked back to her bedroom and grabbed the jewelry box she had obtained. She walked back into her walk-in closet to the vault and placed the jewelry box in the vault but stopped again. It's been three years this jewelry box had been with her but she was unable to find the man she had met three years ago.
Rose opened the jewelry box and took out the necklace. Since she had no information about the owner, she decided to start wearing this necklace. She was hoping that someone might see this necklace around her neck or maybe she would encounter the owner himself by mistake and he would recognize his necklace.
Even though she knew that it was an expensive piece of jewelry, the simplicity of the necklace would not let anyone know that it was a fortune, except for real jewelry experts. So it was a win for her because ordinary people would think it was just a normal necklace and it wouldn't put her in the spotlight.
After wearing the necklace around her neck, she kept the ring in the jewelry box and placed it back inside the vault and closed it. Since she had already gotten what she wanted from it, Rose locked it and wore the keychain necklace around her neck too. It's only safe to keep it on her body.
She walked back to her room and kept both credit cards in the lower drawer of her night stand table and locked it.
**************
At the dining table, everyone was eating peacefully in silence except Rose who was just taking a few bites of her food.
"Rose, I have some good news for you." Beatrice was the first person to break the silence. She turned to look at Rose who was sitting at the end of the table, the same she had sat this morning. "Really?" Rose didn't bother to look at Beatrice and just asked.
Beatrice's expression turned ugly when she saw how Rose didn't look at her. 'Is this brat just spoiled? She's switch attitude so quickly that I'm not sure if she is smart or stupid.' she thought.
"So. I already talked to Headmistress Moore about you. She knows you will arrive on Monday. At first, she directly refused when I told her. But when she contacted your school abroad to ask about you, I'm sure she saw your accomplishments abroad she reluctantly agreed. Don't worry, Sophia will accompany you to the school on Monday." Beatrice suddenly announced.
"You've worked really hard, sweetie. It's good to hear that Headmistress Moore has agreed to it." William who heard Beatrice complimented his wife before turning to look at Rose.
"Rose, you should thank your mother for going through all the stress to help." He added as he looked at Rose's direction.
Rose dropped her spoon before
raising her head up to look at them. "Of course, father. Thank you so much for helping me, step mother,
Rose willnever forget your help" t
Rose finally spoke as she looked at Beatrice with a sweet smile on her face. Anyone who sees Rose's smile would actually think that was real, however, it's only Rose that knows that her smile was a forced one.
Beatrice was no different, she thought she was overthinking it again after seeing how harmless Rose smiled at her.
"Sister, are you sure you really want to take the exam? There is still time for mom to help you talk to Headmistress Moore to skip it for you." Sophia was the one who spoke this time as she looked at Rose with a worried expression.
Rose turned her head and stared at Sophia's worried expression. 'Are you really worried about me? I'm sure you are hoping and wishing that I would humiliate myself if I take the exam.' she thought to herself, already knowing what hidden intention Sophia had. "That's true Rose. You don't have to push yourself to take the exam. I can speak to the headmistress for you and I'm sure she'd understand." Beatrice quickly added.
"There is no need for that Stepmother. I can handle myself and I wish to take the exam. Or is it that you're doubting my skills and abilities?" Rose asked as she looked at Beatrice with a questioning expression.
Even William glanced at his wife
when he heard Rose's question. "Sweetie, we shouldn't doubt Rose since she said she can handle it. We should support her choice to take the exam and it would be good for the family reputation if she passes the exam without any assistance." He said to Beatrice. As a man who was obsessed with reputation, William could already imagine how the Gray family would earn more popularity and fame if Rose passed the exam. He could see himself boasting about this accomplishment to his business partners.
"That's not what I meant. It's not like
I'm not confident in your ability,
Rose. It's just that I'm worried that you will be taking the exam on Monday which means that you have only two days to study. I know how brilliant you are but I can't help but worry about you." Beatrice quickly replied to clear up any
misunderstanding that Rose was trying to cause.
