Chapter 1 Reunion
"Room service."
Gwenyth gently knocked on the door while holding a serving trolley outside the presidential suite.
Soon, the door was half opened by someone in the room.
A black figure flashed by.
"Hello, here is the food you ordered."
Gwenyth pushed the door open and wheeled the serving trolley into the room with her head slightly lowered.
There was a square table covered with a white tablecloth in front of the French window.
A beautiful young woman with fair skin was sitting by the window. She wore a red slip dress with long curly hair hanging over one of her shoulders, looking extremely elegant.
Gwenyth recognized her at a glance. That was Nancy Shandy, a popular female star in the entertainment circle. Recently, Nancy happened to be on the trending list because she was said to have had a secret romance with Edison Yates for three years.
Gwenyth knew Edison. Moreover, she was familiar with him.
Gwenyth had lived in the Yates house for fifteen years. Her mother was a nutritionist there, responsible for preparing food for Ismael, Edison's grandfather. Her mother didn't resign and move out of the Yates with Gwenyth and Gwenyth's sister until Gwenyth finished the college entrance examination.
It had been four years since then.
Gwenyth stopped the serving trolley next to the table and put all the dishes ordered by Nancy on it.
There were two portions of steak, a salad, a bottle of good red wine, and a bucket of ice cream.
Clearly, it was a meal for two people.
Somehow, Gwenyth felt a little frustrated.
"Is Nancy going to have lunch with Edison here?" wondered Gwenyth.
The person who had opened the door for Gwenyth was not Nancy. Although Gwenyth didn't see that person, she was sure that it was a man because he was tall and strong in black.
With a cold face, Nancy ordered, "Open the wine bottle."
"Yes! Please wait a moment." Gwenyth picked up a corkscrew and opened the bottle.
"Decant the wine!"
Nancy glanced at Gwenyth indifferently and looked her up and down, with a trace of contempt in her eyes.
Her gaze made Gwenyth feel uncomfortable.
Nancy's voice was very cold and she was indeed beautiful, but she was not really a mischievous and lovely lady with a sweet voice as she was praised by her fans.
It must just be a public persona that her agency helped her create.
After all, actresses were always quite good at acting.
Gwenyth bent down, held the wine decanter with one hand, and picked up the bottle with the other, slowly pouring the wine into the decanter bit by bit.
"So, what do you think of my suggestion?"
A deep and husky male voice came from the bedroom.
A tall man in a black shirt with his hands in his pockets walked out.
The man was squinting slightly with a cigarette in his mouth. His tie was loosened and he looked a little flirtatious.
Gwenyth was a little stunned at the sight of him. It should be he who opened the door two minutes ago.
At that time, Gwenyth only saw a black figure passing by and didn't notice which room the man had entered.
It was really Edison.
They hadn't seen each other for four years, and he had changed a lot. When they parted, they were both young. Now he was over 70 inches tall, and the teenage spirit on his face had faded away. He had a chiseled face, deep eyes, and great charisma, looking manly and a little mischievous.
Gwenyth's heart skipped a beat. She was so flustered that she didn't know what to do. She was afraid that Edison would recognize her.
But soon, she found that her worries were unfounded.
Edison didn't look at her at all. His eyes were fixed on Nancy all the time.
Gwenyth breathed a sigh of relief secretly and continued to pour the remaining wine in the bottle into the decanter.
"Don't push me!"
Nancy frowned and said coldly, "Why do I have to get married as you wish? I'm on the threshold of my career. You can't destroy it."
"My grandfather is in poor health. He wants to see me get married," said Edison.
"You only consider your grandfather. Have you considered my feelings?"
Nancy's tone became tough and she didn't give in at all. "I haven't been able to get popular since I debuted a year ago. Recently, I've just had a sign of success and got several chances to be the advertising spokesperson. And a film and television company invited me to play the female lead. This is a great opportunity for me. How can you ask me to give up this opportunity to marry you now?"
Anyway, she wasn't afraid of losing him.
After all, she had saved Ismael, and Ismael doted on her a lot. She was sure that Ismael only wanted her to be his granddaughter-in-law, but she didn't want to get married so soon.
She would like to focus on her career and enjoy a glorious life for a few years. She thought it was better to quit showbiz and marry Edison when she made enough money.
"Are you rejecting me?"
Edison raised his eyebrows and took out a hand from his pocket. With his fair and long fingers, he clamped the cigarette in his mouth.
Then, he exhaled a mouthful of smoke and walked up to Nancy, putting one hand on the back of her chair. Looking down at her, he said arrogantly, "Don't think that I have no idea what you are planning. I'll give you another chance. Would you marry me or not?"
Gwenyth was only one step away from Edison. They were so close that she could smell the faint scent of tobacco from him.
She stood aside and put the two goblets and the decanter on the table.
With a cold face, Nancy kept silent. Edison fixed his bright and deep eyes on her as if he wanted to see through her.
The two remained silent.
There followed a tense silence in the room.
Gwenyth wanted to leave. She plucked up her courage and cut in, "Excuse me! Is there anything else I can help you with?"
Nancy and Edison were arguing about private affairs. It was really embarrassing for Gwenyth to stay there.
"Yes," Nancy responded arrogantly, raising her chin at the plate of steak in front of her. "Help me cut it!"
Gwenyth took two steps forward. When she was about to do what Nancy asked her to do, Edison suddenly raised his arm and gently pushed Gwenyth's approaching hands away.
Without looking at her, he said, "Don't leave!" Then, he held the knife and fork in his slender hands and cut the beef on the plate.
After cutting it into small pieces, put down the knife in his hand and picked up a piece of beef with a fork.
Nancy opened her mouth, but Edison didn't feed her but put it into his own mouth.
Edison chewed slowly with a mischievous smile.
Nancy was both angry and upset. "Didn't you cut it for me?"
"Do you think you deserve it?" asked Edison.
"Sooner or later, I'll be your wife. Why don't I deserve it?"
"Although my grandfather likes you, it doesn't mean I like you very much. Don't push your luck."
Seeing Edison become tough, Nancy immediately softened her tone. She held onto his arm and said in a coquettish manner, "Eddie, please understand. I just want to focus on my career now. Your grandpa is in good health now. No rush! Give me more time, all right?"
Edison gave no response.
Nancy continued, "Could you just wait for a few more years?"
"What gives you the confidence to think that I'll wait for you?" asked Edison.
"Your grandfather promised that only I could be his granddaughter-in-law."
Edison sneered and shook off her hand. "You won't marry me now, will you?"
Nancy hesitated for a while and nodded because she didn't want to ruin her newly started career.
"Since you have made up your mind, you won't have any objection if I marry someone else, right?"
Nancy was shocked. "Are you joking?"
"I never joked."
Edison threw the fork on the table and put his arm around the shoulders of the woman next to him.
Gwenyth was startled. Her mind went blank as she turned her head to look at the big hand on her shoulder.
"If you don't marry me, I will marry her," Edison said in a playful tone, which shocked not only Nancy but also Gwenyth.
Gwenyth thought to herself, "What the hell is going on? How can Edison get me involved when they're having a quarrel? He even said he would marry me? Ridiculous!"
Edison hadn't looked at Gwenyth since she came in. Clearly, he just claimed that to make Nancy angry.
"She is just a room attendant here. If you want to piss me off, you should have found a decent woman." Nancy gave a fake smile and glared daggers at Gwenyth.
"What's wrong with being a room attendant?" Edison turned to look Gwenyth up and down. Her hair was tied on the back of her head. She wore a tight white shirt and a black tight skirt, and her waist was so thin as if he could wrap around it with simply a hand. Besides, she had ample bosom, cute buttocks as well as slender, fair, and straight legs.
She was so hot that few men in the world could fight the urge to take a few more looks at her.
Feeling that Gwenyth's shoulder was shaking, Edison tightened his grip on it, keeping and even broadening the smile on her face.
"Nancy, open your eyes wide and have a good look. She has a more generous chest than you. I won't suffer any loss if I marry her."
