Baby Daddy

You passed the interview!

Katherine’s red heels clicked to the floor, echoing in the lobby as she moved to the section in which other people seeking a job were assembled.

“Hmph! Come for your number.”a voice stopped her as she made to go inside the room.

She looked sideways to see a woman wearing glasses that was placed on the bridge of her nose.

She stepped closer to her.

“Good morning, ma’am. My name is Katherine, I am –”

“Oh, please. I didn’t ask you to introduce yourself. This isn’t an highschool.”the woman scowled.

Katherine bit her left cheek before gritting out a smile at her.

“What’s your name?”the woman looked up at her.

“As I’ve said earlier, I am Katherine.”she tried not to roll her eyes.

The woman snorted before scrutinizing her with her eyes.

“Miss Katherine, why are you so dressed materialistically?. I do hope there is some resources in your brain also.”she euphemized her mean words.

“The last time I checked, ma’am, your job should be to give the applicants their number tags and not to interview them. Leave me to worry about my intelligence and allow the judge to evaluate just how brilliant I am.”Katherine grinned at her.

The woman’s brows furrowed up in a frown.

“You’re no 109, i would wait and see if you would nail it.”she extended the tag to her.

“I will surprise you.”Katherine collected it from her.

“Do have a nice day, ma’am.”she smiled.

The woman let’s out a scoff.

“We will see to that.”she huffed before gazing down at the computer in front of her.

Katherine slipped inside the room.

The sounds of her shoes attracted the people’s gazes to her.

She sat down beside a girl who rolled her eyes immediately.

“You’ve got any problem with me?”she raised a brow up at her.

“Seriously?”the girl scoffed.

Katherine noticed her hands were shaking.

“Is he that scary?”she asked her.

The girl gulped in and exhaled loudly.

“Well, about five people has gone in there and they have been rejected.”she puffed out air.

Katherine brows perched up.

Well, she is certain she isn’t gonna fail the interview.

“You would get the job. Kill your fear and go in there with your head held high. Don’t be too scared cause that alone could kill your morale and make your sense go numb.”she adviced her.

The girl turned to Kathy and nodded.

“I hope so.. I need this job badly.”

Katherine nodded gently.

She checked her number tag and saw that she was fifty – five.

Well, she came five minutes late.

The others must have arrived there by the exact time or even earlier before the stipulated time – 10:00am.

People went in, and came back out with deplored faces, angry faces and some were expressionless.

The expressionless ones were the people Katherine knew would be so pained but trying to act like they didn’t give a damn!

Soon, it was the girl beside Kathy’s turn.

“No 55?”a woman called.

“I’m Rihanna.”the girl mouthed to Katherine before moving away.

Some minutes later, she came back with her head bent, dolefully.

She didn’t get the job?.

Katherine felt a little bad for giving her fake hopes.

Just then, Rihanna raised her head up and squealed, running to pull Katherine in a tight hug.

“I got the job!”she squeaked.

“Yowza! That’s great, congrats, big baby gurl.”Kathy tickled her and Riri laughed.

“Your advise worked. I hope you would get yours too so we could see each other around.”

“Thank you!”Kathy balled her hand in a fist and raised it up in the air.

“I would leave now. Thank you once again.”Rihanna grinned.

“It’s totally fine, missy.”Kathy flashed a smile at her.

Rihanna nodded with a smile before going out of the room.

She watched as other people go till it was only her left in the waiting room.

The woman came out and ushered her in.

She walked with elegance gaits inside the room.

She met two men and a woman inside.

She handed her CV over to the woman that called her and she went to give it to the other woman then left.

A man who Katherine felt should be the boss was seating before the table while the other two sat on the chairs beside the table.

“Good morning, sirs and ma’am.”she greeted.

“Hm, sit down, please.”the woman gestured to the seat facing the CEO.

Katherine sat down and placed her hands on her thighs.

“Can we know you, miss?”the woman asked.

“My name is Katherine Kelly.”

“Hm… miss Katherine..”the woman nodded while flipping through the pages of her CV.

“I see you’re applying for the post of the CEO’s personal assistant here?”she looked up at Kathy.

“Yes, ma’am.”

“All other things looks good..”the woman returned her gaze to the files.

“I would pass her over to you. She is good on my side.”she looked at the man Infront of her.

“Do you have any experience in this job, miss Kelly?. I mean, have you ever worked as someone’s personal assistant before?”the man questioned.

“No.”Katherine shook her head.

“I belief you know that being a personal assistant doesn’t ends with getting coffees for your boss or running other related errands.”

“I do know that, sir.”Kathy nodded curtly.

“Since your CV seems good for her to have given you a pass, I would give you a little test.”the man uttered.

Katherine typically rolled her eyes inwardly.

“A company producing a product similar to ours sales suddenly went up from hundred to a thousand sales in a day, more than our eight hundred in a day. Provide a reasonable approach to regain our superior stance back.”

Katherine chuckled.

“Are you chuckling, miss?”the young man stared at her in the eyes, coldly.

*Let’s trash his gorgeousness for now.*Katherine prevented herself from drooling over him.

“I wasn’t. The approach I find reasonable and mostly effective is to give perks.”she responded.

“Perks?”the man repeated.

“Yes, perks. If what we are selling are clothes, I would suggest introducing a bonus gift of a bottle of perfume. That way, the customers would be elated and will spread the word, gaining more customers for us. Or, we could sell at a price lower than our competitor’s price.”

“What about the..”

“Yes,”Katherine cut the man off politely.

“There would be losses, of course. However, as a business man, one should know one has to lose something in order to gain something. It doesn’t stop there too. We should make sure our staffs are friendly enough for the customers to consider coming here another time. With all these, once we have successfully lured them in with our awesome plans, there would be no going back for them even when we stop giving the perks. Our staffs would continue be nice to them still though.”

The man and the woman nodded in satisfaction.

“I like that!”a big smile appeared on the man’s lips.

Now, it was Jace’s turn to make the final decision.

They all looked at him.

Katherine was suddenly nervous.

She has to pass this, for her sake and for the mission’s sake.

“You’re…”he began.

Katherine heart palpitates in her chest.

“Miss Kelly, congratulations, you passed the interview.”
