An Unbreakable Addiction

Billionaire Add 59

"I just heard that Mia was always close with the former boss. They'd go out together often, and when she went to his office, she'd stay for hours. They say her success at the firm was all from sleeping her way up. She supposedly has ties to several men across the city. Jenna hesitated here, as if reluctant to continue.

"You're a lawyer now, Jenna. You should know better than to make accusations without evidence. Gossip from the office? You think I have time for this? Next time, make sure something's true before bothering me with it." Hunter's tone was sharp, his fingers rubbing his temples with irritation.

He knew Mia had always been busy during their three years of marriage, yet she still made time every morning to prepare breakfast and every evening to make dinner, washing his clothes by hand.

He believed Mia might have feelings for someone else, but he didn't believe she would ever use her body as leverage. Men's intuition could be surprisingly sharp sometimes. Still, hearing rumors about his own woman being involved with other men left him in a sour mood. Jenna had expected Hunter to get furious at Mia and drive her out of the house, so she had exaggerated the story, hoping to deepen his resentment. But instead, Hunter turned the tables, scolding her sharply. He left Jenna speechless, unable to say anything she had planned.

She couldn't understand it. Hunter had always trusted her every word. Why was he different now?

"HH Law Firm is under your management now. Anyone spreading baseless rumors should be fired," Hunter said sternly, his voice cold.

Jenna's back stiffened at his tone, and she quickly replied, "If I start firing people right after joining, others might question my motives. How about I start with a warning, telling her to stop spreading false rumors? If it happens again, I'll fire her immediately. What do you think, Hunter?"

Hunter stayed silent.

Jenna's confidence wavered. She couldn't read his thoughts, and the tension grew as she gripped her phone tighter.

After a long pause, Hunter's voice finally came through, calm and distant. "Jenna, don't forget that Mia is my wife. Don't make things too ugly. If it goes too far, even I won't be able to protect you."

"Jenna was so furious after hearing it. Taking a deep breath, she feigned an indignant tone over the phone.

"Hunter, are you falling for Mia?"

Hunter had never shown Mia much attention before, so why was he suddenly so concerned with her now? This definitely didn't look good.

"Nothing of the sort," he replied, tone neutral. "I just don't want you and Mia causing trouble that reaches my grandfather. If he gets involved, even I won't be able to help you." His response was flawless, giving nothing away. "Fine, I'll be careful," Jenna replied, though her anger flared hotter. Mia, that wretch, had stolen her man, taken her rightful place, and even charmed that old Mr Jasper Sr. who adored her endlessly. It made her blood boil. "One more thing." Hunter added. "Mom's back. Make time for a meal with her soon and bring up the pregnancy."

"Understood, I'll call her later."

Jenna hung up, then swept everything off her desk in a fit of rage. "Mia, go to hell!" she muttered.

Across the office, Mia suddenly shivered, pulling her jacket a little closer.

Just then, Mandy slipped in, glancing around before quickly closing the door and hurrying over. "Mia, are you okay? Did Miss Walker give you a hard time?"

Mia looked up, her gaze steady. "Next time, watch what you say! And Jenna is not the boss's wife." Her tone was firm, her expression serious
