EPISODE 35 The jealous wolf
MOON STONE PACK
As soon as Meagan and Jones stepped into the hall, Hazel came rushing towards them but Meagan hid herself behind Jones quickly.
Hazel arched her eyebrows. “What happened, Meagan?!” She demanded.
“She is scared you will rip her off her head.” Jones mouthed.
“Oh come on Meagan, I won’t do that to you.” Hazel placed her hands on her waist.
Meagan peeped from behind Jones frame that was big enough to take her small form.”Are you sure?” Meagan asked in a low tone.
Hazel nodded. “Yes, I am sure.”
“I am sorry, Hazel. I didn’t mean to turn up late for the final rehearsal.” Meagan apologized as she stepped out from behind Jones to stand beside him.
“I am pissed at you but at the same time I can’t lash out on you because you were with me till late night.” Hazel sighed.
“Thank you, Hazel.” A smile crept on her face. She didn’t expect that her best friend would let her off the hook so easily.
“Is the wedding planner here?” Jones asked.
“Yes, I already said a lot to her before listening to her explanation. Her car broke down on her way down here so she had to trek the rest of the way and her phone was on silent for no reason.” Hazel responded.
“Can we start now?” Meagan asked.
“No, the event planner stepped out not too long to put a call through to the wolf in charge of food. This is wearing me out seriously, we don’t have much time left.” Hazel rubbed her temples.
“I am sure today is going to be a great day. You just need to calm down and be positive.” Meagan encouraged her best friend in a soft tone.
“I’ll try. Jones, thank you for picking her up. Oh Meagan! Do you remember my cousin that got involved in -”
Meagan interrupted her. “We had a conversation on our way. He is the same Jones.”
Hazel exchanged glanced with Jones. “She knows that I got surgery done on my face. But why didn’t you tell her about it? It got me thinking that she didn’t want to meet me because of it.” Jones said before walking away.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Meagan asked.
“Well.. I thought you had feelings for him and it would break your heart that he almost lost his life. When Jones was desperate to see you again, I thought you wouldn’t want to see him if I told you he got plastic surgery done on his face.” Hazel explained.
“But I would have at least understand him better. Finding out what he has been through makes me feel guilty for turning him down.” Meagan said with a guilty look crossing her expression.
“I don’t have a good reason for keeping such from you. Maybe I wanted him to tell you himself but you didn’t want to meet him.” Hazel held her best friend’s hand. “So if you are feeling guilty for not meeting him then you can make things up by having dinner with him. Jones stays close to your workplace.”
“He already asked me to have dinner with him some time.” Meagan replied.
Hazel rolled his eyes. “He never missed a chance. You have no idea how much he has been disturbing me to share your contact and he asked me to set up a meeting with you some time last year but I didn’t give a positive response. Jones was excited when I told him that you are my chief bridesmaid. That sly wolf! I am sure he travelled all the way to see you and not just because of my wedding.” Hazel laughed.
Jones walked over to meet the alpha who stood somewhere in the room watching Hazel and Meagan having a discussion. It was so hard for him to tear his eyes away from Meagan. Jones followed the alpha’s gaze and he figured that he wasn’t looking at the other bridesmaids but Meagan.
Earlier on when Hazel was worried about Meagan, the alpha knew the reason for her lateness. They had spent the whole night having sex until the morning so it must have been hard for her to get out of bed. When Carl got back to his apartment he couldn’t sleep because he had gotten swamped with work after receiving email from an official concerning the new pack project.
Everything they did lingered in his mind while he was working. His mind kept drifting back to the face of the woman who had given herself freely to him on the account that they were on a secret adventure with a promise to keep things private.
Carl couldn’t make the offer to go check on Meagan so his flirtation won’t be obvious and stir up gossip. And now she was here looking so beautiful making it hard for him to stop staring at her.
Jones clearing of his throat jolted the alpha out of thought.
“Oh.. Jones you are back. I tried calling the reception desk but no one answered.” Carl looked away from Meagan to focus on Jones.
“Yeah. I brought along with me the important piece of the bridal train.” Jones joked.
“You.. mean Meagan?” Carl asked.
“Come on Carl, stop acting like you don’t know her. I saw you two together at the Halloween party and I also just caught you staring at her.” Jones grinned sheepishly at the alpha.
Carl hoped that Jones doesn’t know more than just seeing them together at the party.
“Don’t get things wrong, we didn’t get to spend enough time together at the party.” Carl figured that if they wanted to keep the fling a secret then he has to convince Jones that nothing has happened between them.
“But I would have loved to spend that little time you had with her. If only she didn’t leave the party early.” Jones said.
“She must have been tired.” Carl responded.
Jones shook her head. “She said the same thing. But does she know?” He asked.
Carl raised his eyebrows with a confused look on his expression. “Does she know what?”
“Does she know about your position? I mean you being the alpha of this pack.” Jones answered.
“She doesn’t know yet.” Carl said. But she will find out today.
Carl wasn’t sure he was ready to deal with whatever reaction might come from Meagan if she finally gets to know that he is the alpha. But one thing was certain for him, he would try his possible best to have a private moment with her again before she leaves the pack.
“You should have told her about your position so it won’t complicate things.” Jones sounded like he was aware about the fling but in the real sense he doesn’t know anything. He was just sure that Meagan won’t want to get close to Carl if she knew he is an alpha wolf.
When they were young, Meagan had refused to attend a gathering organized by the alpha to have a nice time with all the young wolves in the pack. And she had admitted that she doesn’t like alpha wolves because they are scary.
“Jones, I didn’t see any need to tell her about it and remember that we didn’t get to spend time together that night.” Carl forced a smiled on his face.
“Alright. I understand you.” Jones tucked his hand into his pocket as he watched Meagan.
Beta Julius had joined the best friends now. Meagan was laughing at what Hazel had said.
“How long have you known her?” Carl asked.
He wanted to know the connection Jones has with Meagan because of the way he had acted when she didn’t show up on time. And he was so quick to accept the offer to pick up Meagan.
“We met when we were kids. I was eighteen and she was just sixteen. Meagan had sneaked away from home to see Hazel at our pack. You weren’t in the pack at that time so don’t even think of asking yourself why you didn’t meet her.” Jones laughed.
At that time, Carl was out of the pack studying in college and he rarely came home on holidays.
“So what do you think of her from the little time you spent with her?” Jones asked.
“She is beautiful… that’s all.” Carl replied.
There are other things about her but he wouldn’t want to discuss it with Jones so as not raise his suspicion.
Jones chuckled. “Yes, she is beautiful. And I am glad you said there is nothing between you two yet. I have a huge crush on her since we were young. I once asked her out in college but she turned me down. But the rejection doesn’t mean that I am backing down and it’s a good thing she agreed to see me again.” He smiled happily.
It wasn’t hard for Carl to figure the reason for Jones questions. “What do you mean by see you again?” Carl found himself asking.
“We might set up a dinner date.” Jones answered.
Pang of jealousy shot within the alpha. Jones was trying to mark his territory and indirectly telling the alpha to back off from Meagan but in a polite way. Jones knew better, he doesn’t want to disrespect the alpha and also ruin their long term friendship.
“I clearly understand what you are trying to say. But does she know about what happened to you?” Carl asked.
Somehow his wolf wanted to hurt Jones for going after what they both wanted too – Allison the witch of Maridom. But their cases are different. It was easy for Jones to make his feelings obvious to everyone but the alpha can’t make his flirtation known to anyone. His wolf didn’t like the idea that another wolf was trying to claim her. And Carl couldn’t understand the reason for his jealousy.
“We had a good conversation on our way down her. I had to tell her everything before Hazel reintroduced me to her. And guess what?”
Carl didn’t give any response. “She was cool with me when I thought she wasn’t going to be fine with me getting plastic surgery. It feels like a heavy weight has been lifted off my shoulder. I am anxious about how we will end up this time.” Jones said with excitement in his tone.
Carl tried to imagine Jones spending time with Meagan and just the thought of it made his wolf furious but he managed to keep calm. His eyes was fixated on Meagan and that helped to keep his wolf under control.
