EPISODE FORTY SEVEN
THEME: Mupanim
DARK MOON PACK
Edda’s Point Of View
Without thinking I opened the door and bursted into the room. How come they know so much about black moon pack? I couldn’t relate the story in my head. Riley and Theta Jenny stared at me with wide eyes. They were both shocked to see me.
Riley stood up from the chair immediately. “Edda.”
“Luna.”
They both called me respectively.
“What did I just hear you say?” I asked.
Theta Jenny and Riley exchanged glances. “Listen Luna, I.. I.. was trying-”
I silenced her with a raise of my palm in the air. “I heard you.. saying something about my son being mated to his stepsister. I can’t-” I paused to look at Riley.
He was looking so rough. Dark circles beneath his eyes to show that he hasn’t been sleeping much and stubbles on his cheeks lining with his jaw. He hasn’t shaved for days. I saw bottle of wines laying on the floor in the office.
“Edda.. I am sure you must have heard the wrong thing.” Riley said.
Theta Jenny nodded her head in agreement. “We were just talking about his blood pressure.” She fidgeted.
“Don’t fucking lie to me! I heard everything! But I can’t.. I can’t.. relate the whole story!” I gritted my teeth.
“Edda-”
“How did Alex’s mate become his step sister? What are you hiding from me?!” I snapped at him.
Riley turned away and ran his hand through his hair. “Leave Jenny.” He said.
“Stay Jenny.” I countered knowing that Jenny is involved in this matters. She knows too much about it.
“Please leave us alone, Jenny.” Riley ordered.
“Nobody leaves this room until I know the truth!” I said in a slightly raised tone.
Theta Jenny was confused not knowing who to obey. Riley made a quick turn. “Leave Jenny! It is an order!” He grimaced in a commanding tone.
I knew I had lost in the game of command because Jenny owes her loyalty to him as the alpha. Theta Jenny avoided my gaze as she scurried out of the room. My hands were trembling as I failed at clenching my fists.
Riley’s head dropped and his hands gripped the edges of the desk. I waited for him to say something but instead he reached for the empty bottle of wine on the desk and threw it at the nearest wall. I didn’t move from that spot even as I felt something cut through my upper arm.
Riley’s turned his back at me. “You should go back home, Edda.” He said.
“What?! Are you joking?” I scrunched up my face.
“What do you want from me?!” Riley raised his voice at me for the first time in years. The last time he did was when he questioned me about my identity.
“I am going no where! Riley, I want nothing but the truth! What are you hiding about my past? What do you know about black moon pack? And.. how did Avery become our son’s step sister?!” I demanded.
Riley ran his hand through his hair before placing both hands on his waist. “You want to know the truth? Can you handle it if I tell you everything?” He asked in a tight whisper.
“It is hard enough that my son is getting dragged into a past that I don’t even know. But still, I want to know the truth.” I seethe my teeth in anger.
Riley shook his head. “I’ll tell you the truth.” He breathe out.
I tried to brace myself up for the truth but nothing worked. I could feel my legs growing weak already. What if I can’t really handle the truth!
“I am not Alex’s biological father.” Riley said after some minutes of total silence.
I couldn’t help the laughter that escaped my throat. I started towards the table. “You are joking right?” I slammed my hands on the desk so fast as the laughter faded off too soon.
“It is the truth! I am not his father!” Riley grounded out.
“What?!” I gasped out.
“Listen Edda-”
I interrupted him. “If you are not his father-” I paused trying to think of every possibility of this man not being the father of my child. It was hard to even comprehend the truth.
The contract. I signed the contract with him and it stated that I would hear him a pup, leave after a year and he would provide me a good life somewhere far away. I slept with him in heat, a perfect time to conceive and weeks later I was confirmed pregnant. I was certain that I have never been with any other wolf even after I met him. I tried to think about the possibilities again.
“If you are not.. Alex’s father then who.. fathered him?” I asked in a low tone.
“Your ex mate fathered him.” Riley answered.
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. “My ex mate? I had a mate? Unbelievable.” I turned away from him. “This can’t be happening. Stop.. stop playing with me.. Riley.” I touched the sides of my head. “I know you and Alex don’t get along well but.. it is not enough to deny him.” Tears streamed down my cheeks. I have been trying so hard not to cry but I can’t help it anymore.
“This is not about I and Alex not getting along well. I am only telling you the truth. I can’t produce a pup.” He blurted out.
I turned to face him immediately. “What.. what do you mean?” I stuttered.
“When I was young, I had Mupanim which made me unconscious for several months. The virus spread throughout my body because we couldn’t afford to hire a skilled theta from outside the country. The healer back then was only able to keep me alive temporarily through herbs.” He explained.
This is complicated! How can he not produce a pup?! His mate. What about her? Riley thought his mate was carrying his pup even though it belonged to his beta. What on earth is going on?! This is a twisted truth. Perhaps did Riley lied to me back then? I mused.
Mupanim? I am very much aware of this disease. It is one of the deadliest diseases that shouldn’t infect a wolf. The virus isn’t contagious but it is very dangerous. If a wolf is diagnosed of Mupanim then it is most likely to be a death sentence if cure or proper medication is not administered. This virus is also capable of crippling a werewolf.
“The cure was sent to our pack within those months. And I only managed to survive because of my strong immune system all thanks to the alpharic genre in me.” He narrated.
“So what.. does Mupanim has to do in this matter?” I demanded shakily.
“The cure was administered but I have to live my whole life on medication. I grew up so well and healthy but the disease had made me sterile.” Riley sniffled.
I was surprised by the revelation so I asked the question on my mind. “You are sterile.. but you still choose to believe that your mate was carrying your pup. Did you lie to me about her?”
Riley avoided my gaze immediately. “I am sorry, Edda.” He whispered.
“What are you sorry about?!” I asked as more tears streamed down my face.
“I lied. I have lied to you about almost everything. My mate.. didn’t drown in the pool. The moment she found out that I can’t produce a pup.. she changed up on me. I knew she was cheating but wasn’t aware that it was with my beta. When I found out she was pregnant.. I still tried to believe that the pup could be mine but she threw it at my face that I am sterile. The moment she and the beta realized that I wanted them dead… they both ran away from the pack and I haven’t heard from them since that time.” He recounted.
It pained me that Riley had lied to me. Finding out the whole truth was slowly breaking me into pieces.
“So fine… you lied but why did you ask me to bear you a pup if you are sterile? Nobody showed up to claim me but how did you find out I had a mate? I want to know everything.” I reached out to wipe my face but the tears didn’t stop flowing.
The realization that I have been living in lies was heartbreaking. And still it kind of seemed familiar. I feel like I have once been in this position of a loved one lying to me and me asking for the truth. I feel like I have lived this life in the past. Maybe it is all in my head? Or possibly it could be something from my past.
