Chapter 32
Nicola shoved a thick bundle of notes into Willow's arms, and Willow noticed that the emerald bracelet Nicola had always worn on her left wrist was missing.
"Nicola, where's your bracelet?" Willow questioned.
She grabbed Nicola's left hand. "Did you sell your bracelet?"
Nicola wasn't good at lying.
She didn't know how to respond and awkwardly said, "I don't like wearing jewelry anyway, so keeping that bracelet is useless."
You're spouting nonsense!" Willow knew how much Nicola treasured that emerald bracelet.
The emerald bracelet was a gift from Silas to Nicola as her coming of age present. She had never taken it off since she started wearing it on her wrist. It was her most precious possession.
How could she just sell it like this?
"Willow, calm down." Nicola was afraid of affecting Willow's condition.
Seeing Willow so agitated, she couldn't help but feel anxious, "Willow, that bracelet really isn't important to me anymore."
"I admit, I used to really like Silas, but he has already given me to someone else. If I continue to like him, I'm just being foolish. Willow, I don't want to be foolish anymore."
"Nicola..."
Thinking of Nicola's ordeal, Willow's heart ached. She wanted to comfort her, but words just felt shallow and weak at that moment. She just hugged Nicola tightly instead.
Nicola was the best girl in the world, and she deserved the best love as well.
When she was eight years old, she rescued a little boy named Silas from the ruins after an earthquake. Before parting ways, he gave her an emerald pendant, promising that he would marry her when they grew up.
But later, she lost that emerald pendant and his promise to her.
By a twist of fate, she became an orphan and the Burley family adopted her, while Silas had already found love with Sylvia Adams.
At Silas' engagement ceremony with Sylvia a month ago, Nicola inexplicably found herself being framed and ended up in his bed. Sylvia had a mental breakdown and attempted suicide by jumping into the sea, breaking both her legs.
Silas hated her to the core for causing Sylvia's injury, so he married her off to a psychologically disturbed paraplegic, Cillian, making her life a living hell. Chapter 32
"Willow, don't be sad. Actually, I'm doing quite well now. Although Cillian has a bad temper, he's not that bad. Willow, things will get better for us in the future, so you have to hang in there and get better soon too,
"Nicola comforted Willow.
Willow didn't say anything because she knew she wouldn't get better. She didn't want Nicola to feel sorry for her.
Not wanting to continue with these heavy topics, Willow released Nicola from her embrace and intended to tell her a joke to lighten the mood.
Before she could speak, Nicola nervously grabbed her left hand, "Willow, what happened to your hand?!"
The bandaging on Willow's wound, done hastily by Wilhelmina's men, was quite rudimentary.
Nicola could clearly see that her pinky finger on her left hand was missing.
"Willow, where's your pinky finger?" Tears welled up in Nicola's eyes instantly. "What happened? Is this Skyler's doing? I'll kill her!"
Nicola wiped her tears, grabbed a large knife from the kitchen, and dashed outside the apartment.
Nicola was a gentle girl, but she cared too much about Willow. She could instantly transform from a lamb
into a furious lioness whenever bad things involved Willow.
Seeing Nicola ready to confront Skyler, Willow quickly pulled her back.
"Nicola, I'm fine, it's just a minor injury."
Worried that Nicola might do something impulsive, Willow paused before speaking honestly, "Matthew was the one responsible, but I don't want to dwell on it. Nicola, I don't have much time left, I don't want to
waste it on unimportant things."
"What do you mean you don't ave om time!" More tears streamed down Nicola's cheeks "Willow, if you keep NO talking nonsense, I'll cut ties with you! Your hand is injured, and we're going to the hospital now!"
Before Nicola could take Willow outside, the phone on the table suddenly rang.
