Chapter 38: I Like Stars, I Like You Too
Smoke and fire swirled in the ancestral hall. It seemed that someone had just arrived. Rex took Wendy to his grandmother’s memorial tablet, knelt down, put his palms together devoutly, and closed his eyes.
Wendy glanced at Rex from the side as if she had been dreaming for a thousand years. Who would have thought that they would meet again after so many years?
Perhaps this was the so-called fate.
It was just that at that time, they had been very simple. Rex’s personality hadn’t become cold, and Wendy hadn’t known that she had an elder sister and a father in Jena City.
A faint smile appeared on her lips. She copied Rex and told the dead soul her wish–
In ancient times, there was a poem, “May I be like the star, you like the moon. ”
As for Wendy’s wish–
“May you be like the stars, and I be like the moon, and the flowing light of the night is bright and clear.”
Perhaps, that was where the story started changing.
Wendy sat at the top of the tea garden. As far as the eye could see, green mountains surrounded her and a strong fragrance of tea assaulted her nose.
Rex sat next to her, leaned back, and joked, “I think we have seen each other before, and I remember that we came here when we were young. At that time, the tea garden here was not as big as it is now.”
Wendy’s beautiful brows relaxed and she was amused by him. “You remember that much?”
“Well, you sang a song for me. Have you forgotten? You made it up yourself.”
“I made it up?” Wendy couldn’t believe her ears. The man didn’t even blush when he was lying. “I’m so awesome.”
“Yeah, you’re amazing.” Rex reached out and touched her head. Then he lay down on the ground, looked up at the cloudless and blue sky, and sang softly.
“The wind blows gently, like my little lover, the rain flows gently, like my heart……”
Wendy knew that he was just bluffing, so she immediately used her fist to hit his chest. However, her small hand was caught by him and he pulled her into his embrace. Wendy leaned against Rex’s chest, not even daring to breathe loudly.
His heart thumped like a drum, and it couldn’t be restrained.
Rex held her hand and asked softly, “Come with me. I’ll take you to my house. My house is very big.”
“Can I ask my mother?”
“What if she doesn’t agree?” Rex suddenly sat up and looked at her with a frown.
Wendy thought for a moment before replying, “I don’t think so.”
The two of them looked at each other for a second and then laughed foolishly. Wendy pounded his chest and said, “What are you laughing at?”
Rex still smiled. “Then why are you smirking?”
The whole tea garden was filled with their laughter. Time seemed to have paused. The wind stopped blowing, the rain stopped drifting, and the heart was like a rock. She only had eyes for him.
“I haven’t asked you where your home is yet.”
“In a place where you can see a lot of stars, wait for me to take you there.”
“Are your photos all about stars? Do you like stars very much?”
“Well, I like stars and I like you too.”
Wendy tossed and turned in bed, unable to fall asleep. She felt as if she had been surrounded by honey and it melted into her heart.
Before they parted ways, they left their phone numbers with each other. Wendy had a small mobile phone that she had not used for a long time, so basically no one could contact her. But now, she suddenly felt that there was something on the other end of the phone.
The phone screen lit up, and Wendy picked it up without hesitation.
When she saw that it was a text message from Rex, she immediately smiled.
“Are you asleep?”
Wendy bounced up and down on the bed a few times before she finally managed to calm herself down. She knocked on the bed with her fingers and said, “Not yet.”
In less than 10 seconds, Rex’s text message came back, and Wendy felt that her heart was about to burst.
“Go to sleep quickly. I’ll come to you tomorrow.”
However, how could she really fall asleep? They sent more than a dozen text messages intimately before stopping.
The next day, when Wendy got up, she was shocked by her dark circles. Today, she had to meet Rex again. She had applied some makeup on herself, which barely covered it. Thinking of the cosmetics in her mother’s room, she hurried into the living room with disheveled hair. She saw her mother sitting on the sofa with two people on the other end. One was a man and the other was a girl. The man should be about 40 years old. The girl was about the same age as her, but her expression was strange and did not look like she was from the village.
“Mom, this is……”
“Wendy, come here.”
Wendy listened obediently and sat down on the sofa. There was a frozen awkwardness in the air. Could it be that the matter between her and Rex had been found out? But who were the two people in front of her?
“Wendy, this is your father, call him Daddy,” Wendy’s mother said as she pointed at the strange man on the sofa.
Wendy reacted as if she had been struck by lightning. After half a minute, she suddenly smiled and said, “Mom, stop joking. Didn’t you say that my dad is dead?”
Kincaid moved his lips. His voice was choked with sobs, and his eyes were filled with tears. “Wendy, I’m your father.”
Wendy stood up with a stiff smile on her face. “Mom, are you kidding me? Is today April 1st? Is today the Fool’s Day?”
The girl who had been silent at the side suddenly stood up, pointed at Wendy, and said, “Don’t steal my dad!”
Wendy’s heart was suddenly pierced by something, and it hurt terribly. She gasped for breath and looked at her mother. “Mom, what’s going on?”
Wendy’s mother bit her lower lip twice. “I’m sorry.”
“Heh……” Wendy sneered. “Do you think I’m easy to bully? I’m telling you, if you make the same joke again, I’ll get angry, Mom! I’m really angry!”
Wendy cried and shouted. Kincaid suddenly reached out his hand and wanted to hug her, but she pushed him away. “I don’t know you! Go away!”
His face was full of vicissitudes. “Wendy, it’s my fault.”
“I hate you!”
After that, Wendy ran out of the house in tears.
Half of her makeup was ruined, and she ran aimlessly until she hit someone in the chest.
Rex was scared out of his wits by her appearance. He hurriedly pulled her and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Wendy saw Rex’s handsome face and suddenly understood something. She quickly pushed his hand away as if she didn’t know him.
She was not Wendy, she was not the Wendy that Rex liked!
“What’s wrong?” Seeing her like this, Rex panicked.
Wendy’s arms went stiff and tears welled up in her eyes. She forced herself to smile, “I’m fine, I’m fine.”
“Really?” Rex suddenly stepped forward, grabbed her trembling shoulders, and shouted.
Perhaps his roar had been too intimidating, but Wendy actually pursed her lips and stopped crying.
Rex’s heart was aching, and his eyes were sore. He pulled her into his arms and said, “Don’t scare me, okay? Tell me what happened.”
In that instant, Wendy could no longer control her tears and they flowed down her cheeks.
Wendy stopped crying and stared at Rex with reddened eyes. “If I weren’t me, would you still like me?”
Rex lowered his head and gently kissed the tears at the corner of her eyes. In a soft voice, he said, “Silly girl, no matter who you are, I like you.”
In that instant, Wendy knew that everything was wrong. Since it was wrong, she could not repeat it over and over again.
