Branch One Hundred and Sixty Seven
The phone line beeped quiet and Xavier could not hear Jessica’s voice again. He clenched his fist in annoyance. He felt his blood boil. How dare those men lay a finger on his wife? He was going to make them pay with everything in him.
For the first time in his life, Brian saw Xavier with such intense anger. His eyes blazed as he watched him pace around the room tapping away in his phone as his chest heaved in a long breath.
Xavier had been influential for as long as Brian had known him and he had never seen him use the power for anything personal but it was obvious he would not stop until he found Jessica.
“And I do not expect you to be sitting on your hands while my wife is in the hands of the kidnappers” he snapped into the phone before taking it off his ears.
He closed his eyes and tried to calm himself down, he needed to do all her had to do to ensure he did not lose control over himself and his emotions. He turned to Brian who was standing there. If he was not friends with Xavier he might have pissed himself with the way his eyes danced like fire was in them.
“What did they say?” he asked and Brian nodded.
“The thing is that the Mrs aunt took a large loan to gamble from the same men that kidnapped your wife and from the call logs from her phone before it was last located it seemed that she knew something like this was going to happen” Brian explained.
“So where is my wife?” Xavier asked. His voice was low and threatening. He sounded like he could drive a knife through the neck of his friend right there.
Brian gulped. He did not know how to break the news to him that upon his dutiful search, he had been unable to find Jessica as they would need a little more time.
“Well?” he asked again and Brian averted his eyes.
“Mr. Delgado” Brian began as his voice trailed off slowly.
“Brian tell me now, how do you expect me to stay still while my wife is out there in danger”
“Richard men have not been able to locate her but we are sure to get a positive response soon”
“I am going to make those men pay with their lives” Xavier murmured as he turned so his back was facing Brian.
Brian sighed silently. Richard was yet to give him a favorable reply although he was the one who fed him with all the information about the aunt and how everything was related.
Richard was known to be the one in the city who could find everything that was lost, rare, or needed to be found. He was employed by rich people to get to the bottom of everything they wanted to do.
Brian felt his phone vibrate and he hoped with all he was that it was Richard with a piece of good news. He knew that the good news was all that Xavier needed to hear at that time.
“Hello, Mr. Richard?”
Xavier turned when he heard Brian over the phone. He moved swiftly and stood in front of him to be able to get the information firsthand. He drops the phone from his ears and he can hear the shout in his boss’s face telling him to say what information he just got from the other side of the line.
“Richard is demanding an absurd amount of money for the search”
“How dare you think of comparing my wife to money? It does not matter the amount he is requesting. Nothing takes priority than finding Jessica immediately”
Xavier looked at him for a while before taking a deep breath. “Call him now,” he said gesturing to him to put a call through.
It was the first time Xavier was asking Richard a favor and the man knew that it might be the last so her had to milk the Delgado family as much as he could.
Brian called the man back and struck a deal on a few ten million before the man promised to bring back news in the next thirty minutes. Xavier could barely keep calm as he watched the clock tick. Each minute felt like an hour that had refused to pass by.
When Brian’s ringtone filled the air, Xavier shot out of the chair with his hands in the air. He rushed to the door shouting as he approached the door. “Send me the address”
He darted out the door as he felt himself saying a prayer when he did not believe in any deity. He knew that he would not be able to handle it if anything were to happen to Jessica and he did not want to lose his cool in the presence of anyone.
He had a reputation to uphold anyway. The thought of those abducting his wife made his blood boil ten times hotter than normal. His phone vibrated with a text from Brian and it was the direction to the warehouse where the men took his wife.
He backed out of the office with the eyes of the entire office staff on him. It was known to them how important the work of their boss was to him. They knew he had never had a moment as such. They all wondered what could have happened to make him react in such a way.
As he followed the guide on the map leading him to the outskirts of the town his phone rang with a strange number. With this happening, he did not want to miss out on any information.
“Hello?” the timid voice rang through the air.
She did not live with them for so long but he knew that voice well. The times she spoke her voice got engraved in his mind. He knew it well, it was Olivia.
What was she thinking calling him? He had to get his wife back first and then he would deal with them all.
“How dare you call me?” his voice was low and dangerous enough to send shivers down your spine.
“I am sorry, I had to save myself first”
