Chapter 101
Chapter 101
Brett helped Kaley while all the doctors and nurses rushed to Izabella, helping her onto the bed for emergency wound treatment.
Izabella's hand was bleeding profusely, the needle was nowhere to be found, and her hand was swollen. The blood flowing out seemed cold.
Kaley shivered in Brett's arms, still muttering that Izabella wanted to kill her.
She looked like she had just escaped death. Seeing this, Brett could only hold her even tighter and comfort her, "It's all good now, she wouldn't dare hurt you with me around."
Kaley leaned on him, listening to his heartbeat, and gradually calmed down.
As Brett patted Kaley's shoulder, his icy gaze shifted to the woman on the bed who was being held down by the nurses. After a moment, he noticed that something was off with Izabella.
Izabella was shaking intensely, her body as weak as a piece of falling leaf, but her hands clung to the nurse's sleeves with all her might, as if they were her last lifeline.
Her eyes were redder than before, and tears kept flowing.
Brett frowned, letting go of Kaley subconsciously and walking towards the bed.
Izabella caught a glimpse of Brett and suddenly screamed. Her voice, already hoarse, was full of sorrow and despair.
She kept backing away as if she saw a monster, even though her back was already against the wall.
The room was silent, except for Izabella's hoarse cries. She held her head with her hands clawing at her hair, like a lion in a fit of madness.
Brett picked up the IV tube from the floor. The calmer his face looked, the more flustered his heart felt. "What's wrong with her?"
No one answered him, but the expressions on the doctors and nurses told him everything.
"Get a sedative! Hold her down!"
The nurse quickly responded, handing the syringe to the doctor who found Izabella's vein and injected her.
Izabella's grip on the nurse's hand gradually loosened. She lay on the bed, her trembling body slowly calming down. She stared at the ceiling with tears still falling, not out of emotion but extreme pain. Stomachache, abdominal pain, headache, heartache, sore throat... She had experienced all the pain in her life in one go.
"Izabella, stop acting like you are scared." She hurt Kaley and wanted to kill someone, yet he didn't scold her. Instead, she was still crying nonstop. With so many people watching, others might think he and Kaley were bullying her. To him, Izabella was playing the victim.
Izabella didn't even blink, her gloomy stare making people shudder.
"Izabella, quit the act!" Brett was impatient. In his memory, Izabella was just that kind of person. He seemed to have forgotten her initial bright and sunny demeanor.
The doctor couldn't take it anymore, pointing at the door, and said coldly, "Sir, please leave and stop causing trouble here!"
Brett was annoyed. "You want me to go?"
The doctor remained calm, as if accustomed to such situations.
"Sir, the patient is greatly stressed, and doesn't want to see you. Your insistence on staying is only making her more unstable, which is not good for her."
It was clear to everyone that Izabella's condition was quite bad. Even bystanders would feel pity for her, yet Brett, the one closest to her, chose to be sarcastic.
"Her body is weak and emotional stability is crucial. We wouldn't want her to develop a mental illness before she fully recovers. If you truly care about her, you should leave. Our nurses will take care of her." The doctor spoke calmly, but his eyes showed disdain for Brett.
Although it wasn't appropriate to pry into the patient's privacy, Izabella's wounds were seen by all.
It was their duty to save lives. When there was someone who needed to be saved by them right away, they weren't afraid of offending this cold-hearted man.
Brett didn't respond. The atmosphere in the ward suddenly became strange. Kaley couldn't bear it any longer, fearing she'd expose herself if they talk any longer. She gently tugged at Brett's clothes, "Brett, let's just go. Let the doctors take care of Izabella."
Brett nodded and left the ward with Kaley.
