Ms. Lovett, slightly terrified, hastily entered the helicopter, only to be met with a sight that left her in disbelief.

The disarray on the bed caused Ms. Lovett, a woman who had always held Nathaniel in high regard, to alter her expression. For the first time, she found herself silently criticizing him.

She had nurtured Nathaniel since his childhood. However, she had parted ways with him and Valeria. When she encountered him again, he seemed to have undergone a personality transformation, which unnerved her.

With a sigh, she moved to assist Freya.

Freya inhaled deeply and croaked, “Ms. Lovett, could you please step outside?”

She didn’t want anyone to witness her in such a disheveled state, particularly those from her past.

“Ms. Gomez, Ms. Lovett began, discomfort evident in her voice as she observed Freya’s condition. Freya had once been Nathaniel’s betrothed, and they had shared a deep bond.

Ms. Lovett had been pleased by this. Freya was a kind soul who treated her well. Even when Freya had traveled to Beltria for a design competition, she had thought of Ms. Lovett and brought her back gifts. Now, she was deeply distressed to see Freya and Nathaniel’s relationship deteriorate to such an extent. Ms. Lovett handed Freya a set of clean pajamas. These were clothes she had left behind at Newport Villa three years ago.

Freya requested Ms. Lovett to leave. Without uttering a word, Ms. Lovett slowly retreated.

Freya, with great effort, sat up on the bed, nearly fainting from the pain. She gritted her teeth and managed to put on her undergarments.

Nathaniel had ripped her dress. Freya had no choice but to wear the loose pajamas that Ms. Lovett had. brought, adorned with her favorite cat pattern.

Newport was a place she had been reluctant to revisit. It held too many memories of the past. She felt as if she was being constantly reminded of her past experiences, each memory a painful stab to her heart.

The cat–patterned pajamas she now wore were one such reminder. Nathaniel had bought them for her during a shopping trip, remarking that they were cute,

Freya would wear those pajamas every night, sitting on the bed, sketching, and reviewing design works. Meanwhile, Nathaniel would be at his desk, engrossed in his laptop..

Sometimes, when boredom struck, she would lie on his back. Nathaniel would smile, lift her up, and she would curl up like a cat in his arms.

Freya managed to dress herself but was unable to stand up again.

Ms. Lovett reentered and assisted her off the helicopter. Nathaniel’s subordinates, observing Freya’s

drained, lacking the energy to resist Nathaniel any further.

Her only desire now was for Peyton and Linda’s safety. She knew it would be unwise to antagonize Nathaniel again at this juncture.

Ms. Lovett filled the bathtub with warm water and helped Freya into the bathroom. As Freya soaked in the warm water, the pain in her body gradually subsided.

She scrubbed her reddened skin, the marks on her body. She scrubbed repeatedly, as if she wished to peel

off her skin.

After exiting the bathtub, Freya collapsed onto the soft bed and fell asleep..

She developed a fever around midnight and vaguely felt a large hand caressing her forehead. She then drifted into a series of dreams, one of which featured her father, causing her to cry out.

When she awoke, the first rays of sunlight were already filtering through the sheer curtains of the floor–to- ceiling window. She hadn’t realized she had slept for so long.

Freya’s throat was sore. She reached for the glass of water on the side table, but it was just out of her grasp. She felt weak, feverish, and disoriented.
