Chapter 230
Chapter 230 Did You Two Have A Fight?
Seizing the opportunity while he was on the phone, Cynthia quickly pulled down the skirt. that had been hiked up around her waist in humiliation. With tears welling up in her beautiful eyes, she pushed him away and ran out of the office.
Zachary’s gaze followed the woman as she left. He walked over to his office desk, took out a cigarette, and lit it, forcefully suppressing the anger within him. “It depends on the situation. Medication and psychotherapy are options, but a lot depends on the patient. If she can’t find her way out, no amount of medication or effort will help. So, have you become soft?”
Zachary let out a mocking laugh, not waiting for the other person’s response. “I knew this day would come, Eric. Don’t forget your purpose! Do you think you can back out now? You’ve been drugging Eileen for twelve years. Even if you treat her well now, she will never forgive you. Do I need to remind you of everything you’ve done to her? There’s no turning back now. You must keep going until the end, or else… she will retaliate against you.”
After hanging up the phone, Eric had already reached the door of Eileen’s room. He raised. his hand and knocked on the door.
“Eileen?”
Eric stared at the pitch-black space beneath the door. The light was off.
Once again, she had locked herself away in her room, hiding in the dark.
Eileen didn’t do anything. She simply hugged her knees, squatting in a corner while staring blankly at the pitch-black wall.
Even she didn’t know what she was thinking.
In the messy room, a woman’s silhouette was sketched on the paper on the easel. She was depicted in a dress, swaying gracefully, elegant and poised. However, her facial features were missing.
This was the woman Eileen saw in her dreams- her mother.
“Are you tired, Lenie?”
In the darkness, Eileen heard her mother’s voice. Through a faint glimmer of light, she saw a woman sitting on a bed, her face hidden in the darkness. The gentle voice belonged to her.
Eileen seemed to have found a glimmer of hope in the darkness. She knelt and looked up, tears falling from her eyes. “Mom… You finally came to find me. I really, really miss you. Mom, can you take me with you, please?”
“I miss you too, but I can’t take you away yet. You’re still young, and there’s a long road ahead of you. Besides, you still have unfulfilled wishes, don’t you? My precious Lenie, you’ve always been brave. No matter what difficulties you face, you can overcome them, right?”
Eileen carefully extended her hand, not daring to touch anything. She feared that everything in front of her was merely an illusion and that the slightest touch would cause it to disappear.
With weak hands propped on the ground, tears fell onto the earth, and it felt as though her entire being was sinking into despair.
“No, I’m not…” Eileen shook her head. “I’m not brave at all.”
She was crying hysterically.
“Dad doesn’t want me, and no one loves me. Mom, you’re all I have left. Can you take me away with you, please? I’m so tired of living… No matter what I do, nothing seems to change.”
The woman’s voice carried a hint of sorrow. “My poor Lenie…”
Just then, a figure leaped onto the balcony from outside.
In the blink of an eye, the glass door was moved aside, and the curtains were drawn back.
The silver moonlight spilled in, illuminating the dark room and the young woman kneeling on the floor.
She reached out as if desperately trying to grasp something.
“Mom, where did you go? Don’t leave me behind…”
Eric watched the scene unfolding before him. It seemed as though he was looking at a Eileen. who had already gone mad.
The towering figure of the man loomed over her, gradually getting closer.
“What are you doing kneeling on the ground? Get up.”
“Why did you come here? You scared Mom away,” said Eileen calmly.
Eric pulled her up abruptly. “Look carefully! Besides you and me, there is no one else in this
room.”
“You’re talking nonsense! I clearly saw my mother! She said a lot of things to me. She said that if I was tired, she would take me away from here. It’s all because of you! You scared her away! Why did you have to come in!”
In that instant, Eric seemed to understand what it felt like to have a broken heart!
r
As he gradually achieved his goal, driving her to madness and pushing her to the brink of hell, he shouldn’t have felt any emotions, let alone cross that line and become easily swayed by her.
He had been shot while carrying out his tasks, dodging one deadly danger after another, yet he had never once lost his composure, let alone showed any signs of panic or fear.
Everything he did, he did with a purpose, and he stopped at nothing to get what he wanted.
He had schemed against so many people, done so many immoral things, and handled everything with ease.
And yet, she was an exception.
Watching her tormented to the point of losing her mind, he actually felt a trace of pity stirring within him. He wasn’t sure if this could be considered.
regret.
Eric held her, pressing her head to his shoulder, allowing Eileen to cry and lose herself in her sorrow. Rather than her usual calm and quiet demeanor, acting as if nothing was wrong, he much preferred her current state.
“Let go of me! I need to find my mother! Let go of me-”
Eileen was held so tightly that she couldn’t move. Suddenly, she bit down hard on his shoulder. The man didn’t react, allowing her to vent her frustration.
Eileen used all her strength to bite down until she tasted the strong, metallic flavor of blood spreading in her mouth. Even so, she refused to let go.
Eric was wearing a black shirt. He could feel a warm sensation spreading on his shoulder, along with a sharp pain.
Their standoff lasted for over ten minutes. Eric turned his head and lowered his gaze when he sensed that she had calmed down. With a deep voice, he asked, “Have you vented enough?” His intense eyes revealed a different emotion than before.
Eileen pushed him away, her head bowed low. Her slightly curled, disheveled hair hid her face. After a long while, she finally found her voice. “I’m sorry. I’m sick. I didn’t mean to,”
She had done nothing wrong, yet she was the first to apologize.
“Please try to avoid being in my presence in the future. Maybe… it could alleviate the pain a little and prevent me from losing my sanity. You should apply some medicine to that yourself. I’m exhausted and need to rest for a while.”
Eric observed as she regained her composure, no longer displaying any signs of anger. She wiped the tears from her face and her bare feet, which had just touched the floor, now
climbed onto the bed. She crawled under the covers, concealing herself.
I behaved so irrationally earlier, even biting him in the process. Is he going to find a way to make my life difficult again?
Forget it. I’m already in this state. How much worse can it possibly get?
Eric moved all the furniture that was blocking the door, and when he stepped out, he carefully closed it behind him.
Vera approached with concern, her gaze fixed on Eileen’s room. She couldn’t discern anything, only darkness. “Eric, is Eileen okay? I heard some noise just now. Did you two have an argument?”
