Chapter 633
Chapter 633
Serenity enjoyed the wine sip by sip, allowing it la marinate the inside of her mouth.
Jackson drank along with her, filling her glass whenever it was empty.
“Jack, don’t you feel life can be a little ridiculous sametimes?” murmured Serenity as she swirled the wine in her glass.
“What do you mean?”
“You see, back when I was first charged with the offense, every bit of evidence tied me to the crime. No matter what I said, everything was somehow refuted by cold hard evidence. In the three years I spent behind bars, I couldn’t help but ponder the truth behind this case. Who was it that did this to me? Can you imagine how much trouble one has to go through to build up such an impressive case…”
A self–deprecating smile appeared on Serenity’s face.“1 even analyzed everyone I knew, trying to figure out what 1 did to earn such a deep–seated hatred.”
Every word that came out of her mouth struck his heart like a sledgehammer, causing him to wince inwardly with pain.
She raised her jaw at him and said with a smile, “Turns out the perpetrator doesn’t even hate me. Hell, he doesn’t even hate Mira. He destroyed my life, all because he was afraid of some remote possibility that he might have to explain himself. In fact, it wasn’t even that likely that he’d get punished by the law?”
The three years she had spent in prison were a living nightmare. It had inflicted irreversible injuries to her body, taken away her career, and undone all the progress she had been making in life. Worst of all, she might not even be able to bear a child for the rest of her life!
All this because a man was afraid of being implicated, so he had decided to use her as a scapegoat.
It was a straightforward yet absurd explanation. After going on a wild goose chase for nearly four years, she had finally gotten
her answer.
At this point, Jarkson’s heart ached even mare. This must’ve been the first time he felt so much regret in his life. He regretted that he had turned a blind eye to her predicament and lamented the fact that he could have revealed the truth sooner.
The Jackson of four years ago probably would never know that one day, he would fall in love with Serenity, and the experience. she had gone through would turn into a source of pain for him.
Looking back, he wished that the pain she had gone through had been inflicted on himself instead.
“Serenity, I swear to bring you justice. As for that man, whatever you intend to do with him, I’ll make sure it gets done.”
With a gentle voice, he said to her, “So please, stop hurting. Okay?”
“With you around, I dun’t feel pain anymore!” replied Serenity before she tilted her head back and emptied her glass. Honestly, I should be celebrating right now. After all, I have finally found the answer 1 have been searching for.”
As she spoke, Serenity picked up the half–empty bottle to pour herself another glass Jackson placed his hand on hers, “Don’t drink too much. Even though its alcohol content isn’t that high, you’ll still get drunk from drinking too much.”
“That’s what I’m trying to do!” she said smilingly. “Jack, can’t you let me get drunk just this once?”
Jackson pursed his lips, and after a moment of deliberation, he pulled his hand away and poured her another glass of wine.
“Attaboy.”
She then poured the wine down her throat through her lips. As she gradually became more intoxicated, Serenity began exuding a seductive aura.
Worried that she might have drank too much, Jackson ordered some food to fill her stomach. At the very least, it would prevent her from having an upset stomach.
“Hey, won’t you feed me? Pretty please.” Serenity’s gaze was a little hazy at the moment.
No doubt, she was drunk. Had she been sober, she would have been too embarrassed to make such a coquettish request.
However, Jackson was more than happy to satisfy her request. And so, he began feeding her all sorts of things. Whether it was cake or a steak, he would cut them into neat little bite–sized chunks before feeding them to her. As for the shrimp and crab, he peeled off the shells and fed her the juicy flesh inside.
